Bring back CivPro armbands

Would've put this in faction-specific suggestions, but that subforum is pretty much a barren landscape and I don't think it'd garner much attention. It's a simple and probably inconsequential thing in the eyes of many CivPro WL holders, and although it's more or less a decision to be made by FL(s) I still firmly believe the players should hold more input into what's being changed, removed or added. I love democracy.

I'd like to preface this suggestion by saying I don't believe differentiating armbands or shoulder markings would negatively impact the faction as a whole. I've seen videos of WN in earlier years where such a thing remained present, and from the looks of it—it worked just fine.

RL - Regardless of squadron or specialization, rank leaders always have red epaulettes and armbands. To rob them of that signature black-red contrast would be a crime. As such, rank leaders would be the ONLY officers to wear this color.

i1 - Their squad's distinction would determine the color of their epaulettes and uniforms, both of which would be the same color to denote a position of authority.

As for the remaining ranks, they're only allowed to wear a colored armband dependent on squadron. Failure to do so should be met with a warning of some kind, as it'd violate dress code—something like impersonating a RL would be greatly discouraged.

UNION - Considering they don't currently have a specific duty aside from general policing, I don't think a colored armband nor epaulettes for these guys would be necessary.

XRAY - Think it's an obvious choice, but we'll go with blue.

HELIX - Green, as it's really important to be able to identify these guys out in the field when under a lot of pressure.

VICE - Orange, of course.

YELLO - I'm not quite sure if they're deserving of a specific color. Seeing as they're moved from RCT to i5 rather quickly, you wouldn't expect to see one wearing a unique color for very long. Not to mention they haven't picked a squadron yet and thus have no speciality.

One thing I'd like to make clear is that I chose these colors based on the markings present in the Google document. I'll also be putting a poll for those so inclined, but I would like if all those who aren't currently whitelisted for CivPro to abstain from voting at this time as it wouldn't be fair.

Link to the poll is right here. Results will be available publicly so FL(s) and others can determine what steps to take going forward, if any.

If it's just armbands, then I'm personally OK with it and think it's all right.

However, shoulderpads/epaulettes being colored again would be a total eye-sore, and that's saying something because I was the guy who suggested & got them implemented them back in the day.

First off, CPs would look like power rangers. Seeing a green-colored cop, red-colored cop, blue-colored cop with a trenchcoat and white-colored cop (by colored I'm referencing the color of the shoulderpads) jumping someone would be a pretty bizarre and lowkey cringe-inducing experience.
It'd make CPs look funny. We don't need something like that when we have the silly femcop models who look like they have scoliosis & kysphosis, among other issues with their animations.

Secondly, it'd stray away from the appearance and aesthetic of CPs. I believe the current leads are striving for a somewhat uniformed appearance among all Civil Protection units, barring rank leaders for obvious reasons and XRAY units ... who for some reason have trench coats.

xray on top

Making cops stand out is a terrible idea for a force that is supposed to be anonymously empowered to brutalize their own species.

Pretty much this. It ruins the anonymity and makes you target specific cop or division

anonymity compromised.
already retarded that RLs get colored uniforms, not to mention XRAY which is double retarded (possibly triple)

Personally this seems like a very strange thing to compromise anonymity over. Nearly everything about how CP's look is dedicated to that.

tbh if everyone wore different armbands it would look silly

True, can't say you didn't make some really good points. I'm more than okay with a compromise if this is something we end up implementing, as it's not very important and I just wanted a nice little change for everyone.

Ultimately the decision's in the hands of FL or whoever, you're right. And while I don't believe we should stray far from what we have right now, I do think having a little player input could prove beneficial if used correctly. Whether or not colored armbands is a step in the right direction is subjective, of course.

If we're talking about anonymity though, why bother giving RL/XRAY (or anyone for that matter) unique attributes to their uniforms in the first place? You could argue that in and of itself is an IC risk, because we've already got built-in tagline displays for CivPro masks. Same goes for the trench coats, so I agree with you on that front.

Rank leaders get the red epaulettes in order to be identifiable by citizens so they can report rogue cops, that's what the reason since the beginning.

Now, for XRAY... I don't wanna be mean or rude, but it's probably so they could feel more special. Also because on most old Clockwork servers, they'd have a different uniform like that, I guess. I personally think trench coats should be only reserved for cold environments, or during cold weather.

Nevertheless, I agree, it doesn't make that much sense from a lore or IC or whatever perspective for CPs to have differing uniforms when they're meant to look the same in order to not breach anonymity protocols, but certain units (mainly rank leaders) being distinguishable has been a thing on Willard (at least V2) since the beginning. Ideally from a lore POV, every cop would look the same uniform-wise, however I think that won't be done on Willard.

Xray has trenchcoats so they can feel cooler despite not being trained swat and detectives irl… so because of that they’re just nerds

hot take but each and every single cop should look the same with the rare exception of rank leaders & above who could look slightly different for the sake of people needing to report a corrupt cop to a higher rank

the entire point of the combines existence is to make everyone feel little under the same identity. civil protection is nothing more than a statistic, hence why all of them look exactly the same as they prefer order and resemblance instead of uniqueness and individuality as overwatch believes it may cause rebellious or anti-civil behavior. im not a fan of the armbands simply because it somewhat abolishes that key aspect that is symbolic with the combine.

it doesn't benefit RP, no ones gonna care, and it doesnt make sense lore/roleplay wise. as a guy who had to deal with every squad having their own separate bodygroups for shoulder pad colors, it was annoying and i dont wanna do it again if i ever get my civil protection whitelist back. not a big fan.

If everyone’s so against the combine looking different(which I do understand the reasoning of) I really wonder why the model pack for the CP’s has like 5 different colors…

…

We should all wear red armbands since it goes with the C24 Aesthetic btw, can’t ruin anonymity if we’re all wearing red.

(Sidenote I think we lost the suppression of individuality by the combine when people started wearing hot pink suits lol)

man u guys is all haters... NONE of u are real scrombine, combinite fans 🥺😞 cant have SHIT in willy networks

Hear me out on this one, I believe RLs should wear grills on their heads. That worked out in the past.
