SUGGESTION: Make the food found in rations deplete strength and speed, similar to how the water depletes int/perception.

Feels way too easy for my character to survive off of rations. Sure, she doesn't have to drink the water, but she can just throw the water away and buy a drink at a vending machine with a ration coupon that'll easily keep her fed. This suggestion would make it harder and more depleting to stay fed without your stats getting fucked, and it'd help amp up the challenge of remaining a free being in a dystopian world. Would make it a bit harder to gather supplies for resisting with more of your budget allocated toward viable food/drink options, but it would make the outcome a lot more rewarding after your struggle.

(This has probably been posted before, but I'm posting it as my first real suggestion as personally survival as a citizen feels way too easy for me. I might just be accustomed to the setting after playing HL2RP for a long time, but sometimes it feels more like I'm playing a dystopian joyride than actually having to fight and struggle to keep my character alive. With something as simple as this, I think it'd make a big change in my characters' routine, seeing as one of her main options for staying well-fed has now been fucked with, like the water.)

EDIT: On top of this, it just feels like OOC cheating for tons of characters to eat the paste but throw away their water, knowing its' poison. If I was told by someone to not drink the water from the rations, ICly I wouldn't eat the paste too, because it's probably both poisoned to keep you weak and stupid. It also just generally makes the game harder and more dystopian for rebel OCs so, yknow. People may say strength/speed debuffs aren't going to be a problem, but I think taking a big hit to your speed would make it really really easy for a Civil Protection Officer to catch up and apprehend you. If I had my way, all UU food and drink would have similar effects, why is it incredibly easy for me to drink an attribute boosting tea from a UU vending machine with the credits I got from my regular ration? Doesn't feel like the boot is deep in my character's back enough.

It'll encourage others to interact with shops, seek out cooks or master the culinary arts themselves. Overall a boon to the player-driven economy and provide ample more opportunities to RP with others rather than just eating food from a script machine.

It will also mean that people will have to go spend their hard-earned money (lol) on sustenance, and given that the Combine are a totalitarian empire that aims to oppress people, it should go hand in hand that they wouldn't want people to be able to amass large amounts of money, especially as a standard low-tier citizen.

on paper yea but stores are ran by players and they would want to do other stuff too
at most this encourages vending machines to be prevalent again

Wouldn’t it just be easier to lower the amount of hunger it replenishes?

It is very easy to fish a dozen leeches from a spigot and boil water, and within reason it's safe to assume if they put something in the water, the food paste would have shit in it as well.

or a funny prompt that just says its paste it tastes terrible, that can get some quality motivation from good rpers

I kinda feel if both ration issued food items are nerfed super hard it’s just gonna end up annoying, honestly.

tbh lorewise i think it fits; combine isn't keeping us excelling, just fed. and it's best that the food makes us sluggish rather than the water doing all the carrying.
and if it's a debuff to strength & speed then who is that rly affecting. the minges running around, fisting people in plaza, who don't talk to vendors?
i agree w others that there's plenty of other options available, although i will say i've often gone hungry when online at off-peak hours because the ration terminal was closed and no shop owner was online.

Honestly though it would be funny if it wasn’t like there was anything in the food, it’s just so bereft of actual nutrients if you survive solely on them your just gonna be malnourished.

That's kindof the point of why I made this suggestion, it should be annoying and it should be a bitch-slap to your character. Anyone coming in is gonna expect a joy-ride with the combine basically funding their rebellion, but the food deliberately dumbs and weakens them, so what now? They have to get their nutrients from other sources.

Again, I just want to feel like I'm more in a dystopia than anything. Sure, saying it tastes bad can help stimulate some RP for good RPers, but I'd like some actual game consequences to actually change up how I roleplay. My character can ICly endure shit food. What she can't endure is the food keeping her weak and submissive to any potential masked oppressors that may be happening to be in her way.

i've yet to see more than one occasion where a person icly states they're hungry due to the lack of availability, the food/drink system at the moment seems very casual and that goes for both underclass and collaborators.

i have yet to be negatively impacted by the 'fatigue' system at all to the point where i have to rest somewhere, if it's even on the server.

the city is a practically a strip mall with all amenities, regular workshifts amount to pushing buttons till you get 10 packs of cigarettes to please the foreman and get your 6 SC and 15 credit coupon you can spend on whatever you want.

there's also a large amount of 'collaborators' because its just too damn easy to get somewhere through grinding.

fatigue isn't implemented yet iirc

Wish I could say the same.

I believe the fatigue system was disabled because of a bug. All throughout this week I would log in after daily scheduled restart to my character fatigued and no way to get rid of it, despite sitting in my apartment for hours, and having to have it removed manually by staff.

Make it so rations desaturate your screens color
make it so drinking eight beers gives me motion sickness and teleports me to a combine holding facility eight hours later for crimes i don't remember committing

Adding negative attributes to the default ration paste would make sense and definitely make the game more challenging. I've seen quite a few different functions for rations in other servers, for example:

- Some had a permanent gas zone all around the entire map, hazmat suits were required to walk around, and rations would give filters to just barely survive. If you missed a ration cycle, you'd most likely go broke buying filters or suffocate to death.

- Others have had ration cycles that served as the only way to get 'currency'. People would actually starve (almost to death) and it was pretty common to see people marked as "severely injured" due to extreme malnourishment. You miss a ration, you'd be broke and barely alive.

I would love to see a similar system implemented, because the best examples use rations as a psychological tool, both ICly and OOCly. Imagine a ration cycle running, and you're too far away or they run out of rations, all I'd think both ICly and OOCly was "Damn, I'm screwed now. What do I do?" Although Willard Networks is not nearly as brutal in terms of systemic oppression, it would be cool to at least some sort of penalty for consuming the paste for both immersion reasons and gameplay balance.

Not trying to jump the gun or go too off-topic from the original post's intentions, but perhaps a majority UU-Food should have some sort of temporary/permanent debuff, to create actual demand for non-UU food and introduce a new gameplay challenge. For now, maybe start at the ration paste.
