The state of Rebel RP.

The current state of Rebel RP is in clear shambles due to all the changes happening both OOC and ICly, nobody is satisfied anymore, there is a lot of OOC hatred/prejudice from both Admins and Players and frankly, I'm kind of at a point where I can't be arsed to even log onto the server anymore. Why should I keep grinding and grinding and grinding away, slaving away at some trash bag/crate mechanic JUST to get fucked over by OOC changes that I have no influence over because Staff decide so.

Well, I've written down a few points below at what is currently wrong with Rebel RP and how everyone has to jump through 700 loops to change anything, or try to better anything.

The Intranet.

The intranet relay used to be an IC item that you had on you and could RP the usage of ICly. There was already a risk bc there aren't a lot of private places you can go to inside of the city.

Now, group intranets are removed so you can't even communicate with your own group via the relay AND you can't be outside of your base and use the intranet because of (??) reasons, this only helps in fucking over Rebel RP since there are about 3 based that Civil Protection/OTA won't be able to raid (WD Base, Sentinels base and Nameless base), but... We don't have 3 active groups, we have about 10 of them, what about those other 7? Also, if we push this change through, rebel communication will get even worse and it's already at an all time low. Rebels aren't a unified faction, or something close to it. Rebels don't have a whitelist, don't have OOC checkups regarding their activity and actions and RP quality so it's already near impossible to communicate with everyone.

Before, we used to have group relays to help with the communication, at least from within your group, not to forget all the leaders had access to the big intranet (if they were given access to it ICly by another rebel leader) and this was perfect, The Gameplay Manager Robert even told the Rebels that we didn't abuse any of the given relays, not the group ones nor the one for rebel leaders but we were just fucked over since everyone else got it removed for their continous abuse of it.

The GM/Arc problem.

Currently, Gutsy is making a system where each group will have a GM that will cater them with their needs. This will make the workload be more shared, thus less possibility of a burn-out or admins ignoring you.

Isn't it crazy that someone has to jump through 700 loops to make sure that Rebels are able to get a GM? Sure, GMs might not always be available and sure, this and that... But it's come to this far as a point where Rebels don't have any directions to go in because the current arc... What arc? Nobody knows what the point of this 'debt arc' is, IF they even know it exists.

Rebel RP is currently being kept alive by GM quests and Expeditions, the second one not even being rewarding enough so let's get onto the next point.

Expedition rewards.

I think almost everyone has heard about this by now, Expeditions just aren't worth it.

During the expedition some time ago where we went into the C24 sewers to break a few Infestation hearts, we fought about a million Antlions, we had OTA roaming around, we fought Antlion Guards and what more. The original reward that was agreed upon by Gutsy and a few members of the staff team was; 9 Weapons distributed among the groups, the biggest groups getting the most weapons and then 2500 chips if you didn't get a weapon.

Considering the huge nerf rebels went through, how stacked the odds were against us (OTA being overpowered as hell) it's absolutely unfathomable that 2 members of the Staff team were able to 'emergency reset' the rewards of the expedition because, in their words, WE FAILED THE EXPEDITION. Now, that clearly isn't right because the objectives were as followed: Destroy the infestation hearts, do not fight OTA, get one of those Xen Crystals, find the Sentinels scout and their map and don't die. Considering we did all of these objectives perfectly, I don't understand why staff team had to nerf it.

Maybe the dangers weren't big enough? You know, the overpowered OTA roaming around, the million Antlions (red and spitters as well) being spawned on us. Or how about the Hydras when you jumped down blind into a pool of water, almost insta-killing you if you went near the scout?
Oh wait, maybe it's the fact that OTA didn't engage us... You know, the OTA that RAN WAY FROM US. That Admins allowed to just open one of those access points which were never meant to be open when we were holding them at gunpoint to ambush them?

But sure, we didn't do enough, we failed the objectives, we failed the expedition, we failed the dangers, not enough dangers... Sure!

GOI

Remember GOI, the awesome thing that was going to FIX the server, remember how it was hyped up and worked on for months, if not years? Well, it's a loyalist update and it was NOT made with Rebels in mind.

You know, I lead a rebel group 'The People's Front'/'Die Vereinigte Volksfront' and we had this awesome plan to stage a coup where we wanted to steal a fabricator. I have joined the CWU on my rebel char after becoming friends/acquantances with a lot of loyalists to not have any suspicion aroused around me, and the plan was slowly (very slowly) going to be set in motion.

So, we talk about it in our little rebel chat in the Underground Discord "Hey, is the plan still up?"

Oh.. Okay? The Update that was supposed to fix the server... Isn't made with rebels in mind... You know, the driving force of a server? Without a rebellion you don't have a server.

Please add more things if u know other points to add

I’m going to be talking closely with the rebel reps to see how we can take steps forward. I’ll let you know about any developments.
Astro being the unsung hero while also being rebels' ultimate villain in charge of OTA.

It's honestly unfortunate that you haven't had the chance to enjoy good rebel RP on this server but, this isn't the case for everyone. Some of my most memorable moments on this server has been hiding out in the sewers and making plans, interacting with others, and overall enjoying what it has to offer.

As M3ntal noted, I do agree there is a certain aspect of "luck" to getting connected with the right people and enjoying the "rebel scene" which has become a bit more difficult over time due to recent things implemented.

Personally, I am VERY pro passiveRP. I don't like shotcopping that often and to ensure the server is more enjoyable for S2K I often shoot to miss on both my rebel and my cop (I am certainly not coping for the fact that I am a terrible shot). There is often quite a bit of passiveRP that happens within the sewers. The recent shotcops and drama like the loyalist housing being exploded has been planned by players who have legitimate reasons to attack, or the French for lore reasons.

I'm not sure. I wish there were more BMD's active, though.

PREACH!
I, a BMD, is on like 8-10 hours a day. And I take ALOT Of orders.

Okay have to jump in here as the local messenger of Willard Staff & Gameplay. (They are holding me at gunpoint, send help)

Anyway, while I find some parts of this post to be valid, there is a lot of disagreements to be made here. Starting off with the "Intranet".

Intranet
As you know, IC pagers and comms were banned many months ago at this point and have not been an issue since. The recent thread has made us consider increasing the comms for Resistance based groups, but in a way which is controlled and neutral for all involved parties. That being them requiring to follow the rules of 1 hour cooldown, no conversations and generally only exist for relaying important info, organizing meets and so on.

Recent changes have allow ordinary rebels to gain access to the Intranet, but with a catch- they must have a Computer in the base. To avoid metagame and people grabbing names and IDs from computers. I will add a dummy computer which will be cheaper to fit the Rebel eco for Rebels to gain access that way- of course, later on the computer entity will be used but a more rebel-made version of it to stop Combine master passwords and hide names.

To add on rules very clearly state and put bases behind a line of protection when it comes to not only Containers, Items and base info- but also Workbenches which have always been protected that also covers computers. Meaning the only time stuff can be taken if you as the involved party has your base raided as per rules- outside of this CPs can't touch it. Also another correction is that yes, the Intranet is OOCly protected meaning CPs no matter what they do can never access the network... AT ALL.

Just wanted to clear that all up.

Also, as Bass said in the Comms thread, a notice board may be provided to some group channels for easier time giving IC info to their group members as long as its nothing in the realm of Meta. Purely just for important and key notices similar to how CPs, CWU, etc use theirs. Though can just use group announcement channels.

GMs / Arc

Sorry to sound a little peeved here, but are you actually pissing on the very hand that feeds you? Not to sound like an ass but most GMs do give Rebels shit to do, just they would prefer not doing so 24/7. And unfortunately Rebels call GMs far too often that leads to burnout- its not a GMs duty to handle any and all requests, instead they wish to chill and enjoy the game too meaning they will leaving someones ticket sitting around for possibly minutes to hours on end to avoid burnout and enjoy the game the way they want to play it.

Its not their obligation to make Expeditions nor Events. Its something they voluntarily do every now and then. Arc is mainly under the factions realm of control alongside Players. GMs do some things to give some activities every now and then, but again, its not their main job to push those arcs along.

GM'ing is a secondary duty for GMs, the first duty is enjoying the server and being able to RP without any obligation outside of that apart from the occasional event. Not to mention, when GMs have given events in the past commonly, it only led to upset and anger due to Rebels and other players alike giving abhorrent feedback and demotivating comments to GMs- which in turn causes said GMs to stop doing events altogether. Thats not a them issues, that's a player-base behavioral issue.

I personally tell GMs that if they don't feel comfortable with certain users, they can bar them outright from events due to toxic behaviors. That is my personal view on the whole GM stuff.

Expeditions & Rewards

Won't comment on this as not involved in the reward process which got nerfed in the case mentioned. Normally Expeditions have no issues with some of their rewards, but the expedition in question you refer to was nerfed due to an imbalance of value and also an issue where it seems the Ammunition also didn't get refunded which has been set as a precedent before to have ammo spent rewarded back on top of whatever reward you gained from the Expo.

We are working on a new Expedition system and Guidelines + Bassilisk working on a new updated version of the Taskmaster system, I will try pump these out quicker to avoid the same case happening again as from what I gather while the rewards should've been nerfed yes, the nerf went a bit too drastic from one point to another too quickly. Taking out around 55% of the reward value.

Generally, we announce the rewards AFTER the end to avoid an expectancy of accidental high reward, of course, in this instance it was announced as per Gutsy's decision to try and attract more players due to the recent history of Expeditions being quite on the down low in terms of reward- there is a new reward system that's in charge of deciding the rewards based on perceived danger prior to the expo start, but that is overall in progress.

So will see how things go from here.

GOI

Now speaking on GOI, its primarily and currently designed for CWU. It was going to be made for Rebels to steal, but with some current issues with its systems and bugs, it has been locked down to CWU early. Especially since its Economic and Material capacity far outproduces anything the Resistance has on hand, even the refinery.

What would normally cost a few hundred chips can cost a mere 30 chips for example as even the most basic of items can be turned into resin. It also opens up whole new loops in the economy and while yes, it does require a battery to maintain, I will have to be honest that you can get 10 goes using it but with added bulk production added to, it only bolsters the power of the GOI fabricator to extreme levels.

Items which normally cost and arm and a leg turn into something produce easily by those not meant to produce it in that way. Until its more balance and patched up, it has to be locked away for now and thats not so much a staff or balancing decision as it is more Dev related to be centered around CWU for now.

Hope that clears it up a little. If not I can ask Asimo to throw some economic spreadsheets out. (joking, he will murder me). Anyway...

Hello, i agree with @Serhan in some points. There is almost none RebelRP to be made, i remember my lemonpunch, neb and even Willard server start times. No one can tell me otherwise, here are the reasons. PLEASE READ THIS

1. We have a lot of script hoarders, very greedy players. I remember when i think @George made a small event at 4am EU time... i went in there being happy about some RP. The only thing i got was my Fabric that i dropped out of ONE case that i managed to open, getting stolen. Infront of my nose... mingepick. Well what i want to say is, junk weapons or big weapons this issue will never change.

2. Admins restrict RP because of those people and chip loopers (no refineries as ex) and what not. Rebels have one thing in mind... how can i flex my equipment and show smaller rebels how rich i'am, so they should listen to me... if not. Well we will exlclude them of the RP we have with our big and fancy group haha. I promise you whoever steals the Fabricator will never show it to the other people in the resistance and use it themselves. WHICH is literally against the Resistance mindset of working together.

3. Rebels shotcop as they have 5 lifes. Just couple days ago i see a bluesuit with a helsing, grouped with LSB i think. I mean cmon... at some point you gotta FearRP. Literally shot cop at PLAZA... what i want to say is PVP is something that should be special and rarely used, mostly in expos. This problem literally killed rebel groups that were active in the sewers 6 months before. Sweeps were cause, Shadow sweeps were caused and literally dozen of Resistance members died, because some people wanted to have some adrenaline kick. I begged for @Chris to come back and wanted to create something special, make RP. Well the map change happened and you can guess which base got detroyed after someone caused a sweep... ours where we put in love and hours. YOU CAN'T make passive RP, or building RP in the sewers and create a hub or similar.
I remember when i used to develop my rebel chars, talking at bonfires with people, admins spawning some headcrab that we fought and eat afterwards as rewards, small things like that made me happy. Nowhere to be found.

4. OOC & IC hate... I mean i still got my haters from 3 years back @araskes and @HOKI hate me still for my IC actions OOCly, i never talked to them, don't even know why. I promise you they will get butthurt after this and hate me more, without seeking a way to resolve it.
Also people like @ItsLiam have it... fuck even i hate people rn, Thar Keim Rider guy that snatches all the crates perfectly on time FUCK OFF hahahhaha. What i want to say is IF we really want to achieve nice RP and create something bigger then just one Rebel Cell... then we all gotta work together, plan together and find compromises.
WITH THIS i invite everyone that has a problem with me or has little hat to discord call me and just chat a little man... spread some love.

5. No common goal, rules or similar... i don't have to explain this much. Literally every Cell has their own plans, never talks to other cells (don't even try). Compete with other cells... for what?... we don't know.
Without a common goal and rules, we are all doomed.

IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THINGS... dont blame adminges start with yourself

PS: Also i invite players like @Serhan or whoever think that there is improvement to be made in the Rebel scene to my little campfire :^)
Let's grill some headcrab we fought earlier, talk about life, get to know each other, and plan the downfall of the Combine... hehe. Also all the Keim Riders that finally have no space in their storage <3

Disorganization and no clear goals will be solved soon.

This is a very aggressive title for this thread so I have to take to my guns and stick up for my guys and gals in the staff, creative and mentor teams who go out of their way to make sure rebels get the best ordeals of the situation they're in, possible. That's not fair, you shouldn't do that.

I'll keep it short, simple, sweet and solemn. I politely do disagree with your post in majority's sake.

GOI:
I understand the clear upset, but two things about the expeditions and Gears of Industry, but the GoI Update was not made to "save" or "fix" the server. I don't know how that came to be a conclusion, but I'll render that to people's excitement.

Psychologically speaking, if people view this is a server saviour when all it really is, is just an update to bring about a fluent server economy over a period of steps. Please don't view it as a hailmary, because that's not the intended design. My professional outtake on the server's eco in relation to GoI is imagining that if we give rebels fabricators and such at the moment, then we intentionally would be creating a black hole for the server eco.

That's not what you want, that's not what I want, that's not what my Staff Team, my rebel contacts or even the Creative Team wants. I just want to make that clear. We have a team fully dedicated to just analysing and evaluating that alone, and they came to the same conclusion and they are people that play rebel on the daily basis.

We would like to give fabricators a meaningful introduction to the rebel end and we promised that, but it's not ready for that just yet.
You guys and the eco ain't ready for it yet. So blaming my staff team for GoI is not fair.

Expos:
As for expeditions, you could be right. They're a hit or miss, it depends on the factors of who's running, where it's running, when, who's taking part, what sort of involvement is expected.

But my opinion is that expos aren't even that dangerous, most of the time. I remember being in the GM event chat all coming to an agreement to enable PKs and narratable counter-measures to coencide with the fact that The Stem was very dangerous. That was a solid 8/10 of difficulty for Infestation Levels on a difficulty modifier scale we have, and we stuck with that. PKs enabled if anyone died.

The expo was made to be difficult. That expo had 15+ rebels attend that alone with a Vortigaunt tribe.
EDIT: Not 25, 15. I put a typo.

You won, but the OTA also accomplished their objective.

I have an RNG system that people sometimes use to expand layers of difficulty, but people in a retrospect majority of the time tend to set their own creative levels of difficult expos. But with rewards & server eco in mind, you and I agree that rewards should be equivocal and meaningful. The Xenian Crystal was a secret objective, but for the OTA it was their primary. And it was the OTA that accidentally triggered the secret objective ( congrats btw @reece? )

Either way, you guys need to chill out and treat each other with respect. I've seen Gutsy physically staying up nights for 24+ hours making sure the rebel scene is enjoyable for everyone involved in his sphere of influence. A kind of sacrifice I haven't seen by people willingly doing this in all my years playing this game.

I can't comment on the IntraNet, that's not my business.

For the record, I put the Hydra Stinger (the weakest Hydra variant) in the sludge-pool with the broken down trains because the way the rebels were going was the quickest way of extraction where there were other longer, but less dangerous routes. I just wanted to see who would brave it, along with putting that zombie there as a means of adjusted threat environment. Yes, I knew what I was doing and the rebel players still charged through it. Felt completely normal in terms of high difficulty for me.

Alright, thank you for the explanation, Robert. I didn't mean to come off as having my complaints come from a malicious place. I was merely angry at the lack of elaboration, but I'm happy that you gave us an answer anyway.

Yeah admins and multiple members of the community preached that GOI would save the day. Ask around, people played it up that badly.

Gutsy staying up for 24+ hours and still not making any progress or little because of people like bassilisk or Robert (serial non-players) making decisions based on hearsay and reading console logs is insane. This player has been nothing but helpful in trying to bend the rulings to nearly snapping. We love and cherish Gutsy's work. Please do not use him as a shield for our complaints.

You have destroyed the rebel eco (you being the SC) which wouldn't be bad if we could recover even minimally. Allow us to buy things or the chips are going to become inflated once more and you'll have to hard reset /again/. It's still abysmal we can't buy MP5's but cops can buy i3. Leaves me :skull_emoji:

Fabricators are basically inherently self balanced to make a fabricator worthwhile as a rebel. Like, I guess you can make a ton of Resin and Biopase to make food items, but you would then need to charge the battery (Without a charger station, which is therefore almost impossible) unless someone is making one and done batteries which would be super expensive.

You wouldn't even be able to make anything without a disc, which also requires a seperate machine to inscribe discs of what you want. After that, say you wanted to make a gun (given you are a rebel who stole a fabricator), you would need a disc for the gun, a disc for the compressed resin, and then a large amount of said resin.

Like, a fabricator being stolen is just a food machine unless the Rebels are given discs, charging stations, and disc machines... I think the biggest fault of Rebel RP now is inactive large groups crowding out new groups.

I don't really have a dog in this race since I don't give a fuck about making food out of paste, I'm just saying it isn't the end of the world people think it is with how much shit goes into making an item with a fabricator. The point of a fabricator is to lower material cost, so I don't see an issue with it being better than buying it from a person... It's the entire reason you want one.. If admins want to limit the use of a fabricator, they can simply just... Not spawn batterys with charge however we'd get them, or limit exposure to a charger.

Wrong insinuation. Don't blame me for something I'm minimally involved with. It's not like you'd do a better job.

EDIT: Spoke with Zebra in DMs, comment retracted. I thought I was being shot at for some reason.

Is Robert not in the SC? Bassilisk? I'm not talking about YOU, Rad-X, specifically. I mean the SERVER COUNCIL.

bet? LOL? I've been around the block with these types of situations.

Yeah admins and multiple members of the community preached that GOI would save the day. Ask around, people played it up that badly.

I will state here that Bassilisk and Robert are helping me as best they can, have been since I moved into my new role.

They have done more damage than helping.

Please don't make me post the screenshot of bassilisk saying you can't give guns out because they'd be used to shotcop

For the record, the rebel scene does need a lot of improvement regardless of comments made by myself or anyone.

So, I'm going to put the people who should be replying to this thread in the spotlight. I feel as though I shouldn't be the talking point for this specific consideration, even though I have my concerns & appreciations for Liam's post. However, Liam has points and they should be addressed by people managing some of this directly from the ECO POV.

Going to start work on the BMD price sheet tomorrow (not sure why it hasn’t been done yet tbf, but I’ve been working on Vorpal for a little while).
