What did you enjoy most about the event today?
How mysterious it is, the fog, the snow it's all a completely different ambience, it gives off this silent hill vibe.
The rp is nice altough some people lesser than others it was still fun and I wish I had more time but due to wchoo
What did you enjoy least about the event today?
The premature and senseless killing beetwen citizens and the death of an overseer without proper cause or reason.

What do you want to see more of?
Not script foods but food we have to hunt. Aka animals, zombies, ability to fish with a gm that is.
What do you want to see less of?
Guns, less mp5s there should not even be mp5s, famas and those type of guns...
It would make more sense to see guns made for places like these, hunting rifles, shotguns, handguns and etc.

Is this an accurate representation of the Frontier in Alaska?
Yes
Does the portrayal of the Combine being ill-involved prove beneficial to the event?
It's one of the biggest things, it allows for so much chaos and roleplay without being out down or limited.

Have the staff team and event runners been helpful to you / not helpful to you?
Helpful.
Was the starting time / play time within your reach?
Sadly no, I wished this event had started during the weekend as to allow more play time for everyone, studies getting in the way of course.
How would you rate the event in its entirety?
9/10

I was assigned to the Communication camp on random, and I gotta say, I really like how the radio system works here. Bouncing from Refinery/Mining stations and sometimes even playing Telephone between both of them.

Although, I've yet to figure out if everyone can hear these ICly (they can definitely OOCly), which may prove to a bit of a problem.

Nonetheless, Viva La Communications!

TO hear it you have to be looking at them I think

Too many people running around in the freezing cold without any repercussions - especially during snowstorms, when its supposed to be super dangerous.

The atmosphere was stellar, and really gave off the impression that 'Holy shit, we're out here for ourselves.' The player-coordinated expedition to clear out the mine was hands down one of the coolest highlights of the day for me. Wiring up explosive barrels to blast the Antlion burrows to shit, awakening and fighting a guard, and barely escaping was super cinematic. Leaving camp after the storm subsided and just patrolling for food and other items was also just a treat.

Really excited to see where this goes in the coming days, keep it going!

Alright boys - thank you very much. I will lock this thread and reopen it when the second day is finished. Trust that we're looking into every singular detail placed in by everyone here. Player and otherwise.

Glad to see that the community can establish such a fine taste of RP like this.

The Second, Silvery Day

The Mining Town still triumphs over the Valley - they have gained the Baron's trust.

The Refinery was set back into operational capacity.

The Communication's Outpost is on anarchy's doorstep. Loyalties are being thoroughly tested. Nobody can be trusted.

The Obelisk Puzzle is being solved slowly and surely. The Vortigaunt Tribe investigates as much as it can.

The facility's guardian stands sleepless in its hallways, engaging interlopers to its territory.

The mining operation has begun, and there have been casualties. The Permafrost was tested, it's still holding strong.

Not a fan of the weapons in-balance again.

Some things could've been better.

Wish Miners were in the Mines instead of the hotel

Way too-many edgy bandits roaming around ready to kill you over literally anything and it'd be one thing if it was "Oh you threatened my life" But its not. It's
[The person you are looking at is arou...] says "Cut his artory."
[The person you are looking at is arou...] says "Let him bleed."
POV Your car broke down and you tried breaking a window in an storage room in what looks like an abandoned warzone of a town and 2 bandits with bb guns and an edge lord complex execute you because apparently bb guns can kill people like 9mms.

Kinda like the last take.

Btw sorry for not being present today guys. It’s one of my long days lmao

What did you enjoy most about the event today?

The vorts (us) were almost completely deattached from any camp and the amount of stuff that happened was insane. Not only do we have a staff organized storyline but an objective that we ourselves have to complete. From what I've heard the camps have been super chaotic so I'm glad our roleplay was so in depth and amazing
What did you enjoy least about the event today?
I don't know what staff are doing but I've seen an alarming amount of people with guns. Is this turning into rebel outpost rp or what?

What do you want to see more of?
Random events/optional storylines (the yeti was pretty cool, it appeared out of nowhere and was unstoppable)
What do you want to see less of?
It's not something that can be changed, but random civvies that did little to no RP trying to wiggle their way into RP scenesö

Is the Oil Baron a strong antagonist to the event thus far in his introduction?
It gathered the humans up and created conflict, pretty cool.
Was the first mining and refining operation entertaining?
I dunno, I've just been stealing from the camps since day 1 and I'm probably the reason why certain camps aren't doing well

Have the staff team and event runners been helpful to you / not helpful to you today?
Nothing to complain, they're doing a fantastic job but response times are slow. It's understandable though with the sheer amount of players.

How would you rate the event in its entirety?
I wouldn't know much about the human side, but the vort side has been 10/10

I had some free time and took part in the event for the first time today, for about 5 hours. I wrote a recap if you're interested to see how it went.

Spawning in for the first time, I was lost. The map is new to me and the fog doesn't help. However, I quickly found my bearings and met my first person, who happened to be fishing. I gave him my suitcase in exchange for three of his fish. I was going to need that food to survive. I asked him for directions and was given directions to a local village up the hill.

Heading there, I met the Overseer and did my introductions. I was given a tour and a flashlight. Things were looking up for me and I was settling in. I left the compound to go explore when I met someone in distress. His friend had succumbed to frostbite and needed help. We carried the old man inside and got him to rest by a makeshift fire. He eventually recovered and went back on his way to the other camp.

The Overseer instructed me and two others to wait because work would be starting soon. I waited and waited. About 30 minutes later, no work came and we decided to go outside and explore together instead. We traveled through the thick snow and eventually discovered a locked gate by an abandoned small Combine outpost. We couldn't get the door open and we carried on until we found a Vortigaunt. Upon talking to the Vortigaunt, we were told that it has no business with us and it made a departure right away. So much for that.

Moving on, we discovered a lonely house by the lake. We checked if anyone was home, but there wasn't. We found the door unlocked and we explored inside. There were prop guns in a cabinet, and I took one. Might come in handy if we ever needed to intimidate someone. Shortly after, we met someone in a van, and we decided to ride along. He took us to what I presume to be the Mining camp, and we decided to help them out.

Big mistake. Antlions attacked during our quest and one of us got injured, so we decided to leave that place. I traded my fish with a merchant and got some warm clothing and some silver in exchange.

What did you enjoy most about the event today?

A new environment that isn't the overdone City 24 we all know and love. It's a refreshing change of pace, especially with no Combine around.

What did you enjoy least about the event today?

One of the biggest things I noticed during the event today is the lack of quality RP. While this is subjective, it's really off-putting and doesn't motivate you to continue roleplaying with some people when interactions with them are so bland they feel more like NPCs with pre-programmed responses rather than people. Luckily I was able to find a small group of competent people that helped keep me immersed in the RP.

Not to mention players, seemingly out of nowhere, seeking defensive positions only because a GM started playing tense music. This is concerning.

What do you want to see more of?

More harsh survival. Most of the time, the event fails to portray the urgency of needing to seek warmth, food, or shelter. During the time I played, I didn't see any /event detailing the harsh environment, and besides one person roleplaying their frostbite, I got the impression everyone else ignored the environment entirely.

What do you want to see less of?

Low-quality roleplay, and less script-whoring, please.

Is the Oil Baron a strong antagonist to the event thus far in his introduction?

Yes.

Was the first mining and refining operation entertaining?

Yes, I had fun.

Have the staff team and event runners been helpful to you / not helpful to you today?

Helpful. Thanks, guys.

How would you rate the event in its entirety?

7/10

While enjoyable, it fails to keep you really engaged in the event and leaves you lost. You spend a lot of time waiting. Terrible RP quality leaves you unwilling to interact with some people because you will just not enjoy it.

Once I get more accustomed to the event and the environment, I will probably enjoy it more and these points might become irrelevant.

Anyway, it's 2 AM. Incoherent rambling over.

What did you enjoy most about the event today?
At its onset I was already enjoying the event. And, as general and vague as it is to say, I will say the event in of itself is one of the most enjoyable things to have come to Willard since my brief playtime (Less than 2 months) of being here and even with less activity. Character development; progression; roleplay; and storylines themselves are all uninhibited and largely left to the players themselves on how to interact within their environment, and the only real barrier is just the time travelled. Alongside with whomever your character interacts with; and their reactions, but that's roleplay.

The environmental storytelling was absolutely killer, and the execution of it made things really immersive. There's nothing like shacking up in an ill-heated home, scrounging for clothing to layer ontop of another to stay warm. Harkening backwards to one of my points in the previous paragraph, I really can't wait to see how everything turns out on the second day. It's been hell for everyone except the mining encampment.

What did you enjoy least about the event today?

There are a few things that I didn't enjoy about the event, but mostof them are diminutive and outside the aspect of administration; being either the map itself or the playerbase's actions.

For one, it feels like the map is expansive, which although can be a good thing it could also be a bad thing, with how reliant it is on heavy pop to make certain areas feel alive, and the time it takes to travel to and from other areas. There's something in the back of my head a bit problematic if an administrator thinks you're mingerunning to a place when all you want to do is write with other people.

Food and water items are perpetually scarce. And which, although okay and realistic, I would've liked to have at least some surety that a character can eat and drink.

Lastly, and more importantly in my enjoyment: I felt like the two overseers dying in such short order was a bit of a surprise and a bit of a waste.

But that's also due to my view that this would be a similarly slow-burn of people's disgruntlement of overseers and presumptions on how this dynamic would work. So it's understandable if the final point is dismissed due it just being perspective.

What do you want to see more of?

I would like to see more environmental effects, pump Stormfox2 up. Rain! Snow! Lightning snowstorms! Strong gusts of wind! Go ham with it. You've certainly impressed me with it, and I enjoy having my character interact, react, and just in general have to adapt to the circumstance he's given with.

I'm hoping for more localized encounters in the surrounding areas, to which the characters themselves could manipulate to their desired conclusion with their own actions and choice.

And professing my personal choice, another thing I would enjoy seeing is a make-up of guns being short-ranged, shotguns, rifles, revolvers and/or pistols which people have relied on in years past, and might be emblematic of the hinterlands.

What do you want to see less of?

There's not a lot I want to see less of, actually. I would say that the event ranges from 'good' at its worst to 'stellar' at its best. One of the things I am having personal issue with is that there seems to be a heavy lean towards weapons in the form of melee and/or ranged, which could simply be handwaved away as players simply want to broaden their ability to interact and do things autonomously. I think such behaviour will die down in the oncoming days.

The others I'm raking my brain over. It's hard to actually think of anything I would like to see, really. I'll come back if something else pops up.

Is this an accurate representation of the Frontier in Alaska?

I would not know.

Does the portrayal of the Combine being ill-involved prove beneficial to the event?

The combine being little-involved is a welcome relief, as the atmosphere within the event is still akin to Half Life 2; with the threat and prospect of failure being felt on the server but also back in C24 and elsewhere. There's a lot of freedom given that's been taken advantage of, and I think any introduction of elements intended for persistent oppression will negatively affect the server.

That is to say: I don't mind the idea of some aspects of the combine being involved, but I would like for them to remain at arms-length and send only token supplies/forces, even then with those forces put into a situation where their position is negligible; and having to forego any semblance of authority if they wish to survive.

Have the staff team and event runners been helpful to you / not helpful to you?

One time I had been disconnected and lost my leather jacket, resulting in me asking for an admin to please return it. I then found it in my inventory and equipped it. Moreso, I see a lot of other people being given time and attendance to what they wish, and overall I can say that from my own testimony you're all on the ball.

Was the starting time / play time within your reach?

Yes.

How would you rate the event in its entirety?

Atmospheric. Brutally indifferent. Engaging snowstorms and vociferous fauna. Political intrigue, rebellion against loyalty. Every man for himself and others for everyone. This event has a ton of stuff happening. I cannot outright say how it will unfold in the coming sennight but it's been phenomenal so far.

This is Day 1 Feedback, posting it for everyone to read. I will delay my thoughts on Day 2 because right now my cat is demanding attention.

What did you enjoy most about the event today?

Rushing into Mining to help them fight off a wave of zombies! It brought some good faith to Refinery, and was PHENOMENAL to do!

What did you enjoy least about the event today?

I killed two people for entirely IC reasons. When I went to loot their bodies, something that is usually mechanical on the main server, I /me'd it, so that overseeing admins could be alerted and start spawning items. I was told this is Bad RP, which makes sense! It looks like I'm script whoring or killing people for their scripts (which I wasn't doing) and those optics aren't good!

But ultimately, this is a setting where resources are INCREDIBLY low. It makes sense to use as much as you have at your disposal, because we're waiting between drop ships to even receive a chance at getting the supplies we need, both IC and OOC.

What do you want to see more of?

Everything! It's paced so wonderfully! Having one major mining + refining event a day is genius, because it means the rest is downtime to be trying to source food, water, and stop arguments and political uprisings!

What do you want to see less of?

Comms being down. I love that it's having a billion revolutions a day, but it's fucking up a line of communication between camps. Very cool consequence for them falling to in-fighting, and having to travel between camps to get messages across? Brilliant. Having to try and make new radio equipment and reinstate a new leader? Brilliant.
Having comms down for another day or two? Bad, trash, oh please, no!

I also think, sometimes, Low-Quality Roleplay can ruin it. This event relies so much on player to player interest and interactions, that there isn't a whitelist system or anything to vet things. This is a blessing (things happen naturally and quickly within a single day) and a curse (people do shit that doesn't make sense, or is mingey).

Lastly, admin event chars, as always, sometimes impede the fun a bit. I enjoyed the wandering trader! He's a much needed vendor of items that are hard to acquire from dropships, plus, he's really funny. Billy Shaw was alright, I didn't really get what he was doing, and he felt a bit too involved, but he was okay. The two crack heads in Mad Max cars, though, really took me out of it. I get it was late, but that part was kind of weird. Where did they come from? Are they lawless Alaskan natives? If so, how are they surviving? If they're supposed to have broken off from the main group, where did the cars come from?

It's a problem because Admin chars don't play by the same rules as other characters. They get to spawn stuff in, they get to start off with items, all of that jazz. Ultimately, they should be like Kivi or the Trader, where they don't have too much of an impact on things, but still get some stuff done. Even the Baron and the Yeti, who, if not dealt with properly, will lead to a PK, are good admin characters, because they act as antagonists to fight, and are very fleshed out, so it feels fair.

Is the Oil Baron a strong antagonist to the event thus far in his introduction?

He's a dick, and I love him. He ordered an Overseer's death for almost no reason, and that's sigma energy.

Was the first mining and refining operation entertaining?

Not at all; Refining has no people, and I should've prepped for it harder. I'll prepare better next time, to create a more interesting shift. It just felt like a boring CWU shift, but that's on the foreman (me).

Have the staff team and event runners been helpful to you / not helpful to you today?

Mostly... I'm making a staff report, so not entirely, but mostly.

How would you rate the event in its entirety?

So far? 8/10. Unfortunately it's gone down due to some REALLY bad OOC stuff that happened, that'll all come to light in a report, but apart from that, the event is going great! It's truly wonderful!

10/10 flagged on my half-retarded biotic for the first time in months and immediately got told by a grand elder vort that i am prophesied to become a great warrior to save the world and my training must begin today (i just wanted to eat humans amidst the chaos)

This was seriously some of the best roleplay I have ever had since I started HL2RP way back in 2011.

The tensions between the Mining Camp and the Refinery were escalating and escalating, so my character Human told the Refinery crew that he would go over to the Mining Camp and attempt to negotiate peacefully.
It was clear upon his arrival that the camp was split on its future course of action. Half the camp was screaming for blood, the other half hoping for peace. Human relayed his wishes, listened to the infighting between the Miners, (who expressed their anger with the Refinery towards Human) and then left to set up a meeting.

Human returned to his friends, who were at the Comms camp- as he explained the situation, the two sides spoke over the radio and agreed to meet in neutral ground to talk over things.
As SOON as the spot was agreed and the talks concluded, there was an attack at both the Comms camp and the Mining camp.

The fight at the Comms camp cleared quickly, and we heard the desperate pleas for help over the radio. It was then that the Refinery crew decided to toss animosities aside and come to the aid of the Mining camp. We ran for eons through the storm, fighting Antlions, two Antlion Guards, a fucking Yeti and all other manners of evil until we made it to the road leading up to the camp. We all charged up the hill, rallying fleeing Mining members and fought our way back to the front doors of the camp itself; slaughtering the mass hordes of Zombies along the way and bringing much needed medical supplies and manpower.

In the end, Human ended up believing it showed a powerful message: that peace is VERY much achievable between the two camps and that both sides can come together to help each other out in this dark and dangerous wasteland. And time will tell if that speaks true or not.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO WAS ON TODAY AND AT THAT BATTLE, FOR ALLOWING ME TO EXPERIENCE THE MOST FUN I HAVE HAD IN A VIDEO GAME IN A VERY, VERY LONG TIME.

What did you enjoy most about the event today?

What I enjoyed about the event today was in its twilight portion; primarily to when I was about to get off. The events of uncovering why communications weren't working and the vain attempts of trying to fix it would ultimately amount to nothingness, but the roleplay I had with a few group of people was some of the most intense and character development I've had. And most of it was extreme passive.

What did you enjoy least about the event today?

It is ultimately arbitrary and little to matter, but I did have to wait in that portion for a response to be made to my ticket. Does this mean much? No, not really. I know you guys have been likely overloaded with events and DM'ing, and likely want your own portion of the pie roleplaying to be going on within this time. The small annoyance of waiting was quickly alleviated by DeNuke's storytelling and responsiveness. Dude's a phenomenal DM.

What do you want to see more of?

It's hard for me to say this, but I think people and new characters are ultimately going to be on the backburner for people who're already acquainted and relatively well-equipped. Meaning that most of them will forego the intensive roleplay in an attempt to acquire scripts whether it be better clothing, a gun, or a melee weapon. And during this, make it otherwise a bit breaking for other people's immersion.

That is not to say anything bad about people put into such a position; after all, anyone and everyone will try to prioritize the amount of fun they have in a hobby. It's only natural. I think to alleviate this issue it would be nice to give them an encounter which if played correctly they might be able to get something such as mid-items such as a two-handed weapon or even a small pipe pistol. Nothing exorbitant; but to help them along their way.

What do you want to see less of?

I don't think anything comes to mind in particular, actually. Although the above question could mesh between both.

Is the Oil Baron a strong antagonist to the event thus far in his introduction?

I have not interacted IC with the Baron nor known him as a character OOC for very much. However he did order the death of a recent Overseer, and stoked fire within the encampment. Right now the Overseer himself feels like an ominous presence in the background pulling the strings.

Was the first mining and refining operation entertaining?

I think it was a bit heavy for Mining, but that's also me not knowing what went on over there and apart of Refining. It was still fun when my character took a bit of initiative and showed people a completely made-up system of how to refine the oil and then it was just summarily approved and agreed-upon. I hope that there's more twists and interesting venues in the future but it really feels nice having a 'safe' period for where nothing extreme is happening.

Have the staff team and event runners been helpful to you / not helpful to you today?

The administrators have been extremely helpful to me and the friends. Both in responding and getting vehicles unstuck to personally giving a group I was in a little DM session per request, adhoc. You guys are doing wonder.

How would you rate the event in its entirety?

The exploding oil drums will continue as long as my character is alive. You have been warned. Semi-Jokingly.

10/10

It was honestly amazing seeing the two groups work together, I was expecting the refinery camp to be standard rebel chars, but they are actually pretty decent
