Character Name: Liisi Rebane
Brief summary of the character:
A willing participant of the system, indifferent enforcer of the oppression indifferent to the suffering of others. A slave to their own ambitions and vulnerabilities, hostage of their own needs. Someone who enjoys how things are, not caring for the brutality of it all, so long as it is not directed at them. A person willing to defend the “status quo”, reaping the “benefits” of collaboration. Complacent in it all, despite how horribly fucked they truly are.
Why do you want to play this character:
What is there not to like about being a cop? I personally always find enjoyment in playing such roles, and portraying an officer during the uprising is something I am yet to do. Also it will hopefully provide some fun to the other players, and make the event seem a bit more “lively”.
Full Backstory:
Life pre-liberation is nothing more than a fuzzy memory, After all, Liisi was but a child when the first portals opened, and not much older when the “claw bearing aliens” arrived on Earth. The first invaders were…manageable, local governments were in a state of constant sprint while dealing with their presence. No wonder that when the second invasive force arrived, humanity was basically out of breath, and hoisted the white flag almost instantly.
Not that Liisi really remembers any of that, it’s just what they were told by those around them in a facility called “Echelon”, though the tale they were told was a bit…twisted. Echelon, a place where they spent the remainder of their childhood, a place where they finished their education and where they underwent systematic indoctrination.
Then came the life in the “free world”, the transfer to the “gem” that was City 11 was the beginning of a new life, one composed of malnutrition, back breaking labour and constant paranoia. The only real freedom they were offered was the choice of “do I eat this jar of slop for dinner or breakfast”. Not that they complained, out loud anyway. Beatings were common, verbal abuse almost something expected. And while it all left scars on her mind, Liisi did not complain. There wasn’t much point to it anyway, it would be only attracting unnecessary heat..
Didn’t take long for her to find a real job, not some workshift where you pack cans into a box. An opportunity presented itself, a position in the CMU, an almost irresistible offer. The pay wasn’t anything great but she gained experience, knowledge that is invaluable. One that she would use more often than not in her future career. And well, no one really notices when a bottle of meds goes missing from time to time.
Another “benefit” of it all was that brutes of the regime were a bit less…”brutish” after she joined. No one wants to kill the one person who heals you after all. Still…she wanted more, a better life than to just scrape by. So when the opportunity presented itself, Liisi took it. Leaving the previous life in favour of the mask and the baton.
Once more transferred, this time to the “jewel of the sector”. City 24, once known as Geneva, was in need of fresh blood after a mass relocation, some sort of “colonization” or “rebuilding”. She never really looked too much into it, didn’t matter to her after all. What did matter was passing the “training period”, staying alive and most important of all, reaping those sweet benefits.
Time flew by, day after day, patrol after patrol spent in relative peace. Keeping to herself most of the time, spending her “free time” doing whatever her mind could come up with. An established routine, one that Liisi enjoyed very much. That was until the arrival of a certain Free-man put a spanner in the works. At first the tensions weren’t really felt in 24, but with time that changed. Lissi though, she did not care, did not desert like some of her colleagues. In her mind this was, is, just another challenge to overcome before it all goes back to normal.
