Character Name - Ember Reed
Role - Conscript Captain

Character Stakes - Ember's stakes in City One are manifold. It has long been her home, both prior to the arrival of the Combine and after. When the communications reopened with the city, she was quick to use what sway she had to secure a position among it's Stabilization forces for that reason alone. Although, as more occurs, the imprisonment of an Elder she had already fought once (and seen the devastation wrought by one if it's kind firsthand at the Ascension facility), and the resurgence of the Patriots in city limits, old grudges boil to the forefront. Placing her in between a genuine desire to preserve her home against whatever ails it, ailed as it surely is, and old-scores to settle with the forces that act within it's walls.

Personnel Records...
Ember Reed was born in Eastern Oregon just before the turn of the century, gracing her parents, Cody and Morgan Reed, as their first and only child as they embraced retirement after lifetimes spent in the service. Proud of their service and proud of their nation, she was immersed from her earliest memories in the immense pride they felt for the glorious nation they called home, their infectious love for their homeland and their ideals of service to their nation. A promising childhood for a happy youth, with loving parents that were dedicated to see her succeed was, however, turned astray naught but a few years after her birth, when the Black Mesa facility caused a resonance cascade, and the world was plunged into the abject horror of the portal storms.

Escaping just barely with their lives in the disorganized, panicked and haphazard evacuation of the Western, and soon Midwestern states, Ember and her family arrived in New York State. Shaken by their experiences in withering the portal storms, and the rapidly decaying situation of the world, they found themselves amidst a flood of humanity, the unfortunate souls who, like them, had lost their homes to the alien scourge devastating the planet. To their credit, her parents held on hope, aiding fellow refugees however they could, and steadfastly sticking to the deteriorating patch of land that they had begun to occupy, rather than join the masses fleeing on boats and aircraft east, to Europe. Dreadful years on years passed, and the situation didn't improve. Rationing struck, the flag changed to reflect a formal cut off of the fallen Western states, rationing worsened, the overcrowding of what cities were left never seemed to ease, and in this backdrop of squalor and suffering, Ember watched on, oblivious in her youth to the true extent of terror it represented. Her parents, however, did not know that luxury, as they sat on the sidelines, unable to do anything as the nation they had sworn an oath to, and served diligently, as their own parents had before them, was brought to its knees by a threat beyond even what they could comprehend, and the world they knew crumbled away.

Three short years was all they had before the grim realities of the portal storms brought with them an even darker truth, and the reaching claw of the combine descended to claim earth as its own. Across the world militaries stood to defend their lands and people, and just as quickly were swept aside. In Europe, France and Germany fought on, at their most extreme Bundsewehr stood even after the cessation of hostilities the world over. Yet, this meant nothing, for from the crowded sprawl of mankind that Ember and her family dwelled within, all they could do was watch as the beleaguered soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors of the United States armed forces, exhausted after three hard years of war against an ceaseless alien tide attempted to combat a technologically and numerically superior force that had arrived without warning. The slow death of the United States had been averted, by the swift decapitating strike of the combine. Their people, their nation, the liberties and ideals they had sworn to and they had held out hope would live were gone, and it didn't even take the full seven hours.

Her parents broke, all their pride and love trampled beneath a loss that threatened to tear them apart, generations of service to what they had found the greatest nation in the world reduced nothing. Faced with accepting that their entire lives to that point had been founded on and meant nothing, they drank the proverbial kool-aid and imbibed the lies of the Combine. Buying into malignant propaganda and falsehood, they fooled themselves into believing some higher notion of the Combine as salvation of humanity, brought away from the United States to the cramped confines of terminal two. Bottling and passing on those lies to their daughter, Ember, just old enough to avoid a worse fate by this point, moved into the early days of occupation from the hell that had been the United States in it's twilight years under Xenian siege, believing earnestly in the goodness of the Combine.

Years later, Ember had truthfully integrated the supposed truths of propaganda into her core, the easiest route in life was easily to accept the goodness of the combine, and now she had grown up with much her life adherent to those very ideas, even as her family was torn apart and sent across the very earth. Ember, perhaps by happenstance, or clerical error by some tired worker for an obscure administrative center, was returned to City One. Returning to the scene of her childhood, now rebuilt by the combine during the renewed retrofits. A dedicated laborer, she lived within the city as a collaborator for a short time, hearing of the growing malignancy that had consumed her childhood and displaced her from everything she had once known, now threatening the lives of the untold thousands, if not millions, that occupied City One. Conscription was placed into effect, and droves of unwitting and unwilling citizens were snatched from their blocks to be serviced as fodder against this threat. Ember was not among them.

Ember remembered well her childhood, hallmarked with the fear of the Xenian invasion, with the muddied and near-forgotten memories of her abandoned home, and saw an opportunity to take all the agony it had rent in her life and so many others and hurl it back unrepentantly. She volunteered for service, and soon found herself onboard a dropship to the Denver wasteland, under the command of Lance Shaw and with a full squad of fellow conscripts to defend the Aeonic Engine in the region, and ensure not only it's Synthetic Legion was able to remain active, but further plans could come to fruition.

What ensued could only be described as two weeks of hell. Any sense of mutual humanity with the Patriots in regions surrounding her own, who, through the blessings of the now disgraced Ilya Zima, she had been among the first to make contact with as a radio operator, lost with their insistence to further the nightmare of the XMZ. Worse yet were the schemes of the Vortigaunts and their own treacheries, most seeking to spread the XMZ and bring about the eradication of humanity under the plans of their vile Elders.

Faced with all this, Reed fought. More than a dozen incursions against Denver were thrown away at the last, untold numbers of Vortigaunts cut down, two grand-elders cut from the mortal coil, and the Patriots seen off where they transgressed. When Lance Shaw fell victim to the Despot, yet another petty warlord of the XMZ, Reed took reigns as the garrison commander, and saw the unit through the last week of fighting, and ultimately the defense of the Ascension facility, where Project Venus Flytrap, then years in the making, launched successfully at great cost.

In the aftermath, she managed to return alongside what remained of her unit into controlled territory aboard a razor train. They were judged, their victories against their failures, and found to equate in balance. Reed, given the formal designation of Captain, achieved her aims. The XMZ had been stopped, one day her birthplace would be recovered, and those she had known would no longer fear the coming spread of it's siege reaching them like it had in Seattle.

In the year since, she's been shuffled from station to station, originally assigned amidst an administration security detail, she has recently been shifted to City One, back to the place she calls home, to take command of it's stabilization force in the face of new, emergent threats.

Character Name: Daniel Rourke
(if applicable) Role: Captain
Faction: The Patriots

Character Backstory:
Daniel Rourke was born in 1985 in Barre, Vermont, a quiet town known more for granite than for anything else. His father worked in the local quarries, and his mother was a schoolteacher. It was an ordinary upbringing, marked by cold winters, church picnics, and the kind of close-knit community where everyone knew each other’s business by sundown. Rourke was not especially ambitious. He had a mind for machines, a steady hand, and a quiet instinct for when things were about to break, both in engines and in people. That instinct would become much more important later in life.

He went to a vocational school instead of college and took a job maintaining the hydroelectric turbines at a power station outside Montpelier. It paid decently, and it was honest work. Rourke never joined the military. He had no strong political opinions, and he rarely voted. He was the kind of man who trusted that the worst of the world would always be kept at a safe distance by people in suits or uniforms. He liked routine. He liked silence.

Then came the Seven Hour War.

Rourke was on the night shift when the sky tore open. The plant went dark in an instant. He saw the first Hunter-Choppers roar over the hills from the roof access hatch. What followed was confusion and horror. In the span of hours, communication lines went dead, major cities were reduced to blackened husks, and aircraft were falling out of the sky like birds with broken wings. He spent most of those seven hours in a concrete tunnel beneath the turbine housing, listening to distant explosions and watching warning lights flicker in the dark.

When it was over, the world was no longer recognizable. Martial law turned into alien rule. Rourke tried to go back to his home, but it had already been cordoned off and labelled uninhabitable. He spent the next few years drifting between shattered towns and refugee centres, carrying no documents and avoiding checkpoints by instinct alone. He helped where he could. He fixed broken filtration systems, welded shattered fences, and rerouted power grids in resistance outposts that were always on the verge of discovery.

He did not fight in the traditional sense. Not at first. He avoided weapons and avoided taking sides. He watched other people rise and fall trying to resist the Combine and told himself he was being smart, not cowardly. That changed the night the patrols raided a camp near the Connecticut border. It was a makeshift settlement full of families, some of whom Rourke had been helping for weeks. He had just arrived with spare circuit boards when the dropships came. He hid, again, like he always did. But afterward, when the smoke cleared, he found what was left. Children shot trying to run. People he knew, twisted and burned.

He buried as many as he could, then left. But he did not go back to hiding.

What followed was a slow transformation. Rourke began working with Patriot cells in the northeast, though he refused formal rank for years. He was a fixer, a smuggler, a networker. He moved people between safehouses, built false identities, and repaired scavenged Combine tech so it could be turned against them. His old instincts, for machines and for sensing when people were close to breaking, made him invaluable. He never raised his voice, but people listened to him. He was practical, unshakable, and somehow still able to give others hope.

After the destruction of the Xenian Malignancy Zone, Rourke was among the few who understood what it meant. The Combine no longer had their attention split. They would now turn their full force toward the Patriots, and this time there would be no distraction to buy more time.

When the old leadership vanished, either captured or killed, Rourke was asked to step up. Not because he wanted power, but because people needed someone they could trust. Someone who had survived without losing his humanity. Someone who could make the right decisions, even when they were hard.

Now, Daniel Rourke serves as a Captain, or perhaps something even more elusive. He is a man who understands the cost of both action and inaction. He does not wear medals, and few know his full name. But wherever he goes, the resistance grows a little stronger. And though the future looks darker than ever, Rourke believes that if people still have the will to stand, then the fight is not over.

[TRANSCRIBED FIELD REPORT — HARD COPY]
PROPERTY OF: UNAUTHORIZED POSSESSION PUNISHABLE BY TERMINATION
ORIGIN: PATRIOT COMMAND NODE (REF: MONT-1)
LEVEL: CLASSIFIED — CAPTAIN ACCESS OR HIGHER

MISSION FILE: “FEATHERGLASS”
LOCATION: CITY 1 PERIMETER, SECTOR B
DATE: UNSTAMPED (MANUAL LOG ENTRY)
REPORTING OFFICER: CPTN. D. ROURKE

We entered through tunnel 14B at approx. 0200. Rain was heavy. Patrol vision likely reduced. Scanners were not active in the zone. Civilian presence was near zero.

The reason we were in City 1 was to confirm a pattern. We had been picking up fragments from dead drops, intercepted bursts, and recently defected collaborators — all pointing to abnormal energy consumption around City 1’s outskirts. What looked like a water substation was drawing levels fit for military-grade infrastructure. It did not match the map. It did not match the manifest. So we came to find out why.

Team included myself, Lowell, Risa, Tannen. Two new ones tagging along for eyes only — Fisk and Ortega. No weapons for them, just observation. They are young but sharp.

Target substation was reached with no incident. Inside was colder than it should have been. Cooling systems drawing more power than needed for local grid. Risa found a failsafe tucked in a wall panel. Underneath was a conduit. Not ordinary.

It pulsed. Raw Combine-grade energy. Not buried, not shielded. Nothing like we expected. This was not just a relay. It was a channel.

We were supposed to install a node. Small-scale interference, meant to corrupt low-level power routing. Temporary disruption. But if we had deployed it on that conduit, the results would have been catastrophic. Half the block gone, maybe more. Civilians included.

We pulled the node and shifted objective.

Lowell copied data from the relay terminal. Finished by 0254.

Then came the dropship.

No warning. No manhacks. Just a light through the ceiling vent and the sound of the engines. Not a patrol. They were sent.

Split decision. Risa and the rookies ran north. Tannen and I covered stairwell. I caught a shot to the vest. Still moving. Tannen stayed. Bought us time. He is not coming back.

We regrouped at fallback Echo. Data core is intact. We are hurt but alive.

The intel confirms it. City 1 is not just a control hub. It is being turned into something else. Power relays, high-volume transfers, resource compression systems. We may be looking at a Combine logistics node for long-range transfer, or worse — for something biological. Prisoner movement? Bioweapon testing? Still unclear.

What is clear is this. They are building it fast, and quiet. We needed proof. Now we have it.

KIA: SGT. TANNEN (KILLED HOLDING UPPER EXIT)
STATUS: NODE NOT PLANTED. INTENTIONAL ABORT
RECOMMEND: SEAL TUNNEL 14B. BEGIN FULL DECRYPTION OF CONDUIT LOGS.
DATA COREDUMP: STORED ENCRYPTED. FLAGGED FOR TECH TEAM BRAVO.

FINAL REMARKS:
We were not there to strike. We were there to understand, but now we have to strike. Ignite the spark. Free the city.

City 1 is a stronghold. It is a keystone. If we do not act fast, we may lose the window to break it.

— CPTN. ROURKE

Character Name: Kat Lynn
Role: Intention Three
Tagline: QUICK-396
Faction: C24 Civil Protection Garrison

A review on units who need a kick up the backside - QUICK-396
Preamble -
"Kat Lynn" (referred to hereinafter by their official tagline, "QUICK-396") hails from Urban Location Thirteen. According to their profile, she looks to pick up after her father who she describes as a "deadbeat" hence her presence within the garrison. QUICK-396 also seems to have some kind of interest in outland assignment, having previously petitioned with high command to be transferred to HARDPOINT NOMAD as security detail along with the civic workforce who would partake in mining operations in that area. QUICK-396 also appears to be more than happy to follow given directives within the field, but seems to have a blissful disregard for particular rules, namely specific uniformity rules.

test

Review -
QUICK-396 is more or less a blank slate. Delegated usually to generic patrol duties, she typically finds herself on logistical duties setting up defensive interpose equipment within checkpoints during periods of invasive operation. While the rest of her compatriots are fighting to protect the streets, she somehow always manages to take a backseat, only having been assigned to a handful of hardpoint duty tasks and patrols within the city's infested zones.
If the garrison is to conduct itself efficiently, all units must learn to operate on the front lines rather than hiding away where no harm or hardship may come to them.
1748871453851.png

QUICK-396 is to be put forward for potential temporary reassignment in this regard.

1. The unit, despite their scarce deployment record, is able to keep their head under pressure.
2. The unit is fully trained in the use of tactical assault gear, having been issued both standard issue service instruments.
3. The unit is able to follow given directives, often attempting to take charge of fellow ground units in order to ensure cooperation within their squad.

Conclusion -
City One is grappling with an anti-civil cell known as the "patriots". A group of priority individuals are slated to visit the urban centre. QUICK-396 can learn to master herself her and take responsibility for those she fights for, or she can fail. Fail and die.

Backstory -
Kat Lynn hails from Paris, born into a generation who wouldn't have really remembered the atrocities of those who lay claim to the entirety of the human race. Brainwashed by propaganda throughout her entire life under the Combine, she would enlist within the c24 Civil Protection garrison in an attempt to better both the lives of herself and her father, the latter of whom who would let his daughter pick up after his own existence.

Blindly following the orders of the Combine, Kat does their bidding hoping to prove herself.

Stakes -
QUICK-396 is something of a career cop, seeing how far up the heirarchy she can go in an attempt to make her father proud. Despite this, she hasn't been pulling her weight around the city and as such requires a rude awakening. A request for her transfer to a different urban centre for temporary task assignment has been submitted. Either she comes out of this better for it, or she is added to a pile of broken parts.

Character Name: James Stewart.
(if applicable) Role: Conscript Private
(if applicable) Tagline: N/A
Faction: City One Conscripted Stabilization Force
Character Backstory:
James spent his formative years in Chicago's suburbs, the son of a veteran of Vietnam, whose accounts were more about raw and rugged than about heroics. Those either way instilled in him a spark that motivated him to enlist immediately following his graduation from high school. His initial stint in the service took him to the riot-torn streets of Los Angeles and overseas, to the broken fragments of Yugoslavia, where peacekeeping often felt like holding back a tide with bare hands.

Then the sky cracked open.

Portal Storms unleashed a terror from off Earth—a menacing, unfamiliar, unyielding force. Amidst the chaos, James learned that his family were dead, killed by the extraterrestrial invasion. No bodies, no proof. Just a cold, official message and silence where his life used to be. As the society crumbled, James was redeployed to guard desperate safe havens. The Seven Hour War followed. Cities were lost, governments collapsed, and his entire platoon was destroyed in a single, unforgiving attack. Trapped under wreckage, James survived—only to be hauled from the rubble by Synth patrols and dumped into a PoW camp.

There, broken men were turned into tools.

Given a bleak prospect for survival, James was drafted into the Combine's Stabilization Force—tasked with policing the same terrified citizens he'd once sworn to defend. No freedom. No family. Just a uniform, a weapon, and the memory of a world that no longer existed.

Character Stakes: As a conscript, James is compelled to unjustfully abuse people, a perversion of everything he believes in. He remains in City 1 not for loyalty to the Combine, but because it's a place where he might find a way to make things right. He’s watching, waiting—for a chance to turn on his masters from within, or at the very least, save someone else before it’s too late.

A picture of him taken during better times, funnily enough considering his surroundings.

Gino Occhipinti-Lombardi

A Conscript Lieutenant in the Civil Defense Forces of the Combine. He had been trained under the Ateria Program at █████████. He had attended ██████ sessions, hypnagogic exercises, and high-level combat preparation. His adaptation efficiency was recorded at █████████, eligible to take on ground command.

He was airborne-certified at █████████, with tattoos for commendations, deployments, and kill groups. There was one tattoo—a tower-punctured ouroboros—that was marked down as excessive but allowed. He took heavy damage in Ukraine, including ████████████ and cracked ribs, but recovered after time.

Gino's missions crossed France, the Russian border, Iceland's geothermal areas, and insurgent strongholds of Nunavut. He often served at █████████ and █████████ areas. High efficiency ensured his continued service despite violations such as unauthorized endings and █████████.

He achieved more than a dozen awards such as the Merit of Injury, the Medal of Purification, and the Ascendancy Cross. After being reclassified in ██████ according to Directive VINDICTUS-9, he commands quick response missions in City One's underlayers—processing rebel attacks, infrastructural incursions, and transdimensional irregularities.

Primo Cosenza
The Underboss

Rain pours down the sides of the alleyway, drenching the overturned trash cans and the opened dumpsters and pooling in the numerous cracks and potholes scattered across the pavement. The lighting is minimal, save for the occasional street light that flickers on and off every few seconds. A man strides down the alleyway at a faster pace than a stroll, but not so fast as what might be considered speed-walking. Ambling with purpose, the man dons a leather overcoat that repels most of the downpour off of his skin and onto the street. A black cap sits tightly against his temple, and the collars of his coat flare up to obscure a majority of his face. As he approaches the end of the alleyway toward a lit-up street, he reaches into his coat and adjusts something, the clinking of metal against metal echoing across the tightly-packed brick walls.

The man turns to the right once outside of the alleyway, towards a mildly active delicatessen with a few individuals milling about, chatting and drinking. The street is notably active at such a late hour, even in the rain. As the man approaches the deli, the individuals in front of the store come into clearer view. Huddled under an outcrop that blocks the incoming rain, the men can be seen smoking, drinking, and otherwise shooting the shit, as it were. One of these men, however, stands out in demeanor. Shifting to and fro, his shaking hand takes long drags on the nearly burnt-out cigarette. His gaze darts across the street, observing his surroundings with a keen gaze. Before long, his eyes lock onto the approaching man in the leather overcoat, and then widen.

He drops the cigarette, turns one-hundred and eighty degrees, and sprints in the other direction.

The man in leather breaks out into a sprint at the same time, barreling past the deli and barging through a confused crowd of men, a couple of whom are knocked over as he and his quarry push and shove them out of the way to gain ground. The pair advance down the street at a rapid pace, water splashing across the concrete as their shoes struggle to maintain traction on the slippery surface. Just as the pursued man turns to round a corner into a side alley, his left shoe glides across the wet sidewalk, sending him tumbling down onto the pavement and slamming into the building at the side of the alleyway. While the downed man attempts to regain his composure, the man in leather closes the distance and stands over the man, panting as he shouts.

“You were warned, Victor! It’s been two weeks with no vig! Carmine ain’t happy with you.”

Victor wheezes, the breath thrown out of him violently from the fall, “Please, Primo… I swear, I’ll get it! I just had some back luck is all-”

Primo takes a quick step towards Victor and delivers a sharp kick to his side, the thud from the strike strong enough to signal a potentially cracked rib. “Don’t give me that horseshit! If you got money to gamble, you got money to pay us!”

Victor lets out a strained cry, “Please! It’s not my fault, I-... I just…”

Primo reaches into his coat and pulls out a steel pipe, holding it by his side as he says, “This has been a long time coming, Victor. You knew what you were getting into.”

Before Victor has time to respond, Primo raises the metal pipe and brings it down onto the injured man’s body. Clangs of metal and cries of anguish ring out down the side of the alley. Almost like a bell being struck repeatedly, the metal pipe rings out again and again as it connects with Victor’s body, slowly deforming as the metal is warped by the strikes. After around a dozen hits, Primo throws the pipe toward the side of the alley and reaches into his coat with his right hand. From within, he draws a black Beretta and aims it at Victor, who is quietly squirming and moaning with pain as he writhes around on the sidewalk.

Primo yells, “Next time, you won’t see my face, capiche?”

Victor only manages to let out a groan, to which Primo responds with a final kick to Victor’s ribcage. With that, Victor lays flat on the ground, semi-conscious as the pain ripples in waves across his body. Primo promptly holsters his pistol back into his coat before smoothing his clothes and letting out a sigh of exasperation. He pulls his black, leather gloves down further on his hands, and adjusts his coat which was thrown askew in the melee. With one final glance of disgust toward the heap of a debtor on the ground, Primo strolls out of the alleyway and down the street, disappearing into the haze of rain and darkness.

Primo Cosenza’s life is one of violence. A low-level soldier in one of the organized crime families in New York City during the eighties and beyond, work usually entailed collecting payments and roughing up the odd debtor who failed to make his or her weekly payment in full. Begotten from an impoverished family of limited means, little money was to be made from working in a factory or as a dockhand. Real money, of course, could only arise from other means: shylocking, bookmaking, racketeering, and hitjobs. Life was difficult, but those who knew how to handle themselves on the streets could pocket a significant amount of change for themselves. As long as they knew how to survive and, more importantly, how to adapt to changing circumstances.

Circumstances did indeed change. At the outset of the Black Mesa Incident, alien creatures quickly began to descend upon the denizens of New York City. With martial law being declared by the government, the crime families were thrown into total disarray, with most either being picked off by the aliens or extrajudicially imprisoned by a police force that didn’t have time to deal with trials in a time of war. Primo himself managed to evade an untimely demise from either an alien or the police, slinking into the shadows as the city attempted to consolidate and fortify itself, turning into a fortress that sought to fend off further extraterrestrial invasions. As the largest urban center on the east coast, refugees flocked from across the country in an attempt to evade the invading alien species.

When the Combine finally arrived and conquered the planet in seven hours, many in the city saw this as a welcome reprieve from the continuing onslaught of alien attacks. After all, who better to fend off these alien invaders than an orderly force of aliens that knows how to deal with them? New York was swiftly quelled and assimilated into the fledgling system of cities that were being fortified by the Combine to “protect” the citizens trapped inside. Symbolically, New York transformed into City One, the first urban center among the dozens to be erected by the Combine. A beacon for the rest of the world to follow, the Combine wasted no time in encasing the city behind thick metal walls and putting the population to work. Not everyone in the city was content with the new world order, however.

As resistance groups began a campaign of sabotage against the local Combine forces, Primo remained under the radar of both the Combine and the resistance groups. As the two sides bloodied each other in ruthless displays of violence, Primo eked out an existence among what remained of New York’s crime families, forging alliances and making friends where possible. With mob activities significantly muted under the rule of the Combine, progress was slow in making up for what was lost. City One, in the meantime, descended into further levels of anarchy and chaos as the resistance destroyed everything in sight, engaging in a bombing campaign that hardly distinguished between human and Combine. This new group of freedom fighters, known only as the Patriots, grew to be a rather painful thorn in the side of the Combine as well as the local sector administrator, Mark O’Brien.

With the departure of O’Brien for City Thirty, however, the situation began to radically change once again. An impenetrable cloud descended upon the city, shielding it from all outside sources and allowing no information to escape. A man known only as the Consul had taken power and shut off the city from all those on the outside. After a few months of no contact with the rest of the world, however, the city had finally opened up in a spectacularly grand reveal of a city reborn, beckoning all those across the world to come and find their place in this new utopian society. And, amid all the confusion and unknown dealings within the city, Primo Cosenza managed to inexplicably find himself standing in the Consul’s office, perched at the top of the Empire State building in an ornately-appointed room. The Consul himself was standing at the window, gazing upon the bright, blue lights that dotted the Combine-controlled city. Glass of champagne in hand, the Consul mused to Primo in a hushed, gravelly tone.

“After all this work, the effort and the suffering, we have finally set this city in motion… I’ve been told a glut of laborers is expected from Sector Ten. Those poor bastards.”

The Consul takes a sip from his glass of champagne.

“You’ve done well to keep those dogs in line, Cosenza. Those damned Patriots, that rabble, are the only thing that could disrupt our plans now. Drastic measures must be taken. Nothing can go wrong. This thing of ours must succeed. No mistakes.”

The Consul turns slowly, peering back at Primo.

“The dregs must be kept in tow. I can trust you to do what needs to be done, yes?”

Primo lets a smile slowly creep across his face, his white teeth gleaming in the brightly lit room. He presses down his exquisite silk suit and adjusts his black lambskin gloves, nodding towards the Consul, before stating simply:

“You got it, boss.”

Character Stakes: Primo is self-interested and above all else is looking out for himself. However, he is also loyal to a cause. As long as the Consul appears to be the best means to ensure his own safety, he will remain at his side. But, as the District Administrator builds ties with the Conscript reserve and constructs his own base of supporters, who can say what he might eventually do...

Character Backstory: See Below
Character Stakes: They're intending to gain the authority they never had, they crave power over people because he's never had it, known to have leadership skills admittedly deemed incompetent with his first corporation, he's harnessed himself-- proved himself. He's narcissism incarnate, Machiavellian administrator only really loyal to the Consul due to the power it grants him, might-is-right sort-of thing, y'know? His stakes are the city, his stakes are his men, his investment art not in the City but the Combine themselves.

ORWELLIAN DREAMS;
The Life and Death of a City-One District-Administrator.
View attachment 44059
Elias Alphrédor-Tétreault Laframboise
Cowardice Manifest
Born into a vindicative, neglectful and privileged family which gave him whatever he wanted whenever he wanted, his mother was vindicative and narcissistic with the time she spent with his father, divorcing in Nineteen-Sixty-Eight spurring from his father spending all his day's at work or away from hView attachment 44061ome doing god-knows-what with his share-holders, his grandfather's dynasty had granted his father the reins to his company and his inability to take a resemblance of responsibility, the endless benders and his cold-blooded apathy was making the company he'd ignored his own *flesh-and-blood* for tail-spin into the deep-end by the time of his deathbed, where Elias inherited his company.

The solemn thirty-something year old man by-now was obsessed with getting back at his 'druggie' father, craving the authority he never had-- the power he /needed/ to fulfil his ego-- the time spent with his father's employees-and-cleaners around his house only ruined his view of the average 'citizen' with him perceiving the people who were 'lower' than him as servants, butlers and otherwise.

The monetarily-privileged life he was gifted destined to have-- did not grant him much financial wisdom however, with his company continuing to plummet as he ignored the advice of his shareholders and his board, opting for more direct measures of saving *his* company, *his* lifeblood-- he was going to /save/ it all.View attachment 44062
Two-Thousand-and-One rolled around and yet his company was borderline going into the red, his unwillingness to listen to anyone else but himself proved futile and the corruption he'd partaken in to prolong the life of the husk of his corporation was futile.

Violent outbursts, lawsuits and the ever-increasing corporation was driving his company into his company into the red, he was begging for a second chance, if somebody was out there, a god (if there was one), to hear his cries and grant him mercy! "Please, oh please! Let me do it all over! I'll do it all over!" The ever-increasing turmoil further derailed his mental state and as much as he wanted to rebuke it -- he was becoming his father all over again, and yet? His prayers were answered, *it* was coming, and the only thing he needed to do was survive.

They came in irregular waves and scrambled to kill the first person they saw, the gunfire and the screams were alien to someone as coddled as himself, the fire, destruction and chaos of the Xen infestation proved too much-- far too much, who the hell cared if he engaged in corruption? He was trying to "-save his company, save his employees-- save his life!" And yet he took the first military escort out of New York before-long, hiding out in Quebec with his sickly grandmother. The portal storms raged on for so long it became like rain to him, he didn't care about it anymore, the gunfire, the screams of the people around him, *he* was trying to save *his* life more then anything else, and no matter how he justified it in his own mind, he was a /coward/. A path that propelled him soon-enough to the Combine. It came in droves-- orchestrated, rehearsed military tactics that before-long granted it access to the entire world, they hitched the first train to a rebuilding City-One, this was his /second-chance/, the one he prayed for! It was not long until he worked himself to a tier higher then the rest-- he /always/ saw himself was a tier higher than the rest. The shit, the scum-- the /dogs/ who were plaguing his city-- he saw knew it all first-hand, and he was ever-increasingly radicalised as the 'people' around him treated *him*, of all people as some-sort of 'common-man', but he wasn't a commoner-- he wasn't his father- he wasn't his stupid, uncaring grandfather or his mother-- he was /him/, a leader-- a leader who had to be stone-faced, uncaring in the face-of-death, cape-draped on his back and it was at that time he met the Consul, propelling him into even further delirium about what was right-and-wrong, his silver-tongue hypnotised him further into not caring about those down-below, the men in the slums brought it upon themselves when they decided to dive head-first into a life of backwards-thinking and terrorism, he was being prepped for District-Administrator and he wanted that title, no matter how meaningless it was to him. He needed that power, that authority and the endless lined-up soldiers ready to /die/ for him and the Consul.

Elias got his second chance at leadership, the corporation had only padded him, filled his gold-leafed patterned vest with Kevlar for this City, the disgusting, decaying realm of nothing but melancholy and crime before him, and when he got in that seat? The endless monitors beaming on his face, begging him for an announcement. He was going to declare a new City, without the cavities, and he wasn't going to throw it away like his father.
He was going to do the right way, without the sickly old men in chairs trying to command him on what-to-do, the young minds of New York-- raised in this city, /born/ in this city knew what to do, what-to-think, and what-not. He was going to grant them paradise.

And he thanked the Consul dearly for it.
View attachment 44060
''An ivory tower, standing radiantly above the tattered slums and putrid air of City One -- even those higher a tier than most barely catch a glimpse inside before being escorted out by a cheap, recycled imitation of a bodyguard. A sore thumb in the skyline of New York, the citizenry recognise it as the District-Administrator's play-pen, a rudimentary replica of a Citadel -- yet those with a higher intellect, those who strive to become more then just another jumpsuit, the /Liaison-Officers/ of which he so guides, aim for the seat looking up to those monitors, after-all.

How long did he have left?''
(P.S. I didn't know whether to add this on to the original application but I thought it suited it enough to at=least attach it to it-- it's more a personal log.)

New Frontiers
-"Youngest in the family, whatever good that ever made me. Born in the state of Texas, before the dissolution of the old states. Lookin' back at it now, ain't that much that ever changed. Somehow it feels like this is how it was always supposed to be, no matter the choices we had back then. Like figures of clay, we are molded by our surroundings without any control of it all. When they came, well.. hell broke loose. Like small ants in an enormous colony, they concentrated us into these camps. Refugee Zone 3454, District 7. New York has seen prettier days.. but it was there they split us up. Whole family disintegrated after that. Took my older sis' and brother, haven't seen them since.. dad had already left, hell.. something even tells me he did it voluntarily."-

-"In the end, they took mom. Left alone, I drifted around.. wouldn't be long until we orphans numbered into the thousands. Some of us went out, most of us didn't. Ended up doing whatever we could to get the day around, building a new family in this world of hell. It fucked me up good, left to rot .. but it molded me into the man I was supposed to be. Didn't take long after that until we started doin' runs with others; traversing terrain deformed and mutilated by our Occupants. Should have been in school, instead I was knee-dip in shit like so many others. Didn't take long after that until many of us joined 'em. The Patriots... a ragtag bunch, an idea.. and so much more. It was everything. It became family.. a reason to live. An expectation of seein' the light at the end of the tunnel, something that would reverse everything and restore it all to normality. It never became normal. Been like this many years now; some days, I even wonder if its worth it in the end. Y'know what it is that keeps me going? Strange to say it, but it feels like - it ain't all lost. It feels like, those I've lost are still out there; somewhere... and if I were to give up now, I'd give up on them and everyone else that depends on me. It's just one more run, like every other run... but something tells me, this is it. It means something.."

Younger Brother of Samantha Wilde, son to the astute collaborator Richard T. Wilde. Born into comfort in Texas pre-ascension. All of this would change after the Portal Storms and the Ascension - the Invasion of Earth. Packed liked sardines along with hundreds of thousands of others in the refugee concentration camps erected by the Occupant in New York City. He witnessed his sister drafted into service and sent east, to the Culling along with his older brother. Left alone, with his mother Kirsten another tragedy struck as she was taken... "re-location" they called it. But he knew that... whatever it was; she wouldn't come back.

21 years later...

The Long March; the forced march following the failed uprising of Ci-[error] forced the remaining Patriots to seek sanctuary in the harsh lands of former America. Surviving the hardous journey; the schemes and plots hatched between the Patriot leadership, the Conscript and the Combine... but in the end, he participated in the storming of the facility. Taken captive, he once more slipped out of death as the vortal allies of the Patriots feed his captured comrades. Alongside other survivors of his group; they battled their way through the facility - reaching its end; only to be met with ferocious force... but once more, death slipped from his fingers... brought back to life by the Occupant along side his other compatriots; he was placed into a razor train with an unknown location with the others; but Fortune favours the bold - and Fortuna wasn't done with him yet. As the razor train derailed, he had escaped death ... once more..

The West may be lost... but in the East; there is still hope...

A Second American Revolution...

And a final revenge for the downtrodden.

My heart raced. Decade old sirens blared out a frightening screech across a dilapidated camp. The clatter of dozens of boots, followed by the distinct yelling of officers and soldiers alike resonated within a cluttered refugee tent; locked behind grated fenced walls. Today was different, though. The terror we so grew used to was felt different. A ray of light from the fading dusk pierced through a scratched hole in the worn tent, stained by a faint hint of blue. Peering through it, the distant sky raged in an unforeseen cacaphony of bright blue; shining amidst gunfire and shells fired. Rippling throughout the night, tracer rounds flying through the atmosphere, striking that which hides above the clouds.

A disturbing call echoed from the clouds, and the hole in the sky grew wider. I once convinced myself that this was all a prolonged dream- this was literally the plot of those sci-fi movies I used to love. The earth shook once, shaking my mind from its stupor, a massive ray of light descending from the growing portal. It looked like a lightning strike- yet it persisted in its existence, dancing across the ground as it seemed to grow ever wider and wider. There were murmurs of panic around me, the subtlest hint of unease planting the seed of unrest.

I felt it too. An instinctual chill that ran through my body. I clutched my daughter in my hands- she was only four years old. Not even old enough to know what was happening. She rarely cried, and she had those innocent green eyes that I used to have, so long ago. Someone raised their voice in a crowd nearby- some nonsense... pessimistic shouting about how the world was ending, is ending, and that there's no point to any of this. He had a crazy look in his eyes, a man that was broken; pushed past his breaking point. I glanced away, I didn't want to risk attention. A distant explosion distracts all of us- but not him.

Steps huddled towards me, his words muddled in the quieting murmur of the crowd I blended in with; a hand pulls my shoulder, non-sensical shouting directly at me- I push him back with a free-hand, he trips over a pile of empty plates and slams his head on the concrete floor. The sound of breaking ceramic, and a cracked skull silences the distraught tent. Dozens of eyes lay on me, and on the man on the ground. My heart races still. A brave bystander confronts me; I ignore his words as accusatory words continue onward, gently gliding, carving a path through the crowd of people. It is this eery silence that scares me most, where was the gunfire moments prior? The clatter of boots, the ambient noise we grew so used to?

I push open the folds of the tent as the last bystander steps aside, a glance left and right shows the soldiers standing frozen, as the ever-growing portal spits out a horde of a new type of enemy; one that they stood no chance again. A thunderous roar of an engine rumbled to the right- a tank, one of the few they had remaining. Others followed behind me to gaze skyward, the tragedy of moments prior forgotten at the absolutism of what lay above.

Gears turned as a turret raised- I covered my child's ears, as a thunderous bang rippled through the camp. A shell fired- it impacts something; to little effect. Spaceships of some kind, drop dozens of three-legged tripod. Screeches and calls echo from its shining frame and armour, covered in alien flesh and weaponry. The tank re-aims its turret- but it can only aim so high. The tripod in question hums, a gathering light growing at the base of a cannon of it's own. The tank fires first, a round shattering a leg of the striding beast, its cannon misfires, hitting a camp a dozen meters away.

I drop to the ground- a shockwave pushing me down as I hold my treasure in my hands, shielding it from harm as debris shoot over my head. My heart races faster, I'm not safe here, no one is. All I can do is run, they confiscated my weapon from me- what good would it do against whateverthefuck that thing is anyways? I clamber into a building- hiding in what seems to be a closet of some kind, locking the door behind me.

I told myself- just wait, be patient. Be calm. It'll be over soon- it'll all go back to normal. It's what I told myself, it's what I told my daughter.

It never did, and it was stupid to think that it ever would, in reflection.

What else could I do, but survive? If only to protect my daughter, and nothing else.

H5ul3J8.jpg

It never was the same— it never will be the same, never again.

I tightened my grasp on the curtains, peeling them backword as dimming rays of the afternoon sun pierced a splintering wooden window, set up high in a dilapidated apartment block, illuminating lingering dust dangling in the air. Water drips just a few feet away from me, I asked the 'Western Standard' to fix it months ago— Or was it longer? My attention drifted back to the streets below. Strange, though pragmatic vehicles baring blocky and sharp designs blared their alarms, braking on the streets just outside the apartment block I'm in. A ramp drops from the back of the vehicle, as the new world's police force sprint out of it, and into the building below.

I open the window wide, a gust of wind blowing the curtains apart, the sound of the cops below making a weary and fatigued sigh escape my mouth— interrupted by a soft chuckle from behind me. I turn around, stepping to lean against a wall as my eyes lay upon another.

"Let me guess— They're doing another 'inspection'?"

I respond with a frown, vexed by his apparent lack of worry. Boisterous and brave as he always claimed to be. He listened to my complaints about this world, concured with most, yet he didn't agree with everything I said. Brave enough to question me at times and debate on things— being honest, I don't think I ever won a single argument with him. A facade he placed too much effort in for his chosen line of work. He was the ticket I needed, the ticket to see my daughter, my family, again. The inspection was my own fault-- they were looking for him.

"Maybe they'll finally shut that fucking mouth of yours— We had this happen yesterday, though."

I mask my back-stabbing self with vulgar language and a scoff, my body language is intended to portray a calm and relaxed demeanor. I take a heavy drag of my cigarette- I never smoke it this much, but the stress is getting to me. My eyes drift back through the window, observing the metropolice below. I smile weakly, expecting a snarky quip or otherwise to my statement.

It doesn't come, and he presses his cigarette against a table as he clasps his hands together, hunching his posture over as he takes a deep breath in. I catch him in the corner of my eye. Brown eyes staring through my soul as he scoffs. A change from his usual chuckle.

"Do you regret your decision, Val?"

My eyebrows crease as my gaze flutters to him in mild confusion, kicking myself off the wall as I wander to the table he's at. Sitting down at it, as I wait for the officers to come banging at the door any minute now. They're probably running up the stairs— I felt terrible. I did regret it. I traded friendship for cruelty. My mouth opened to speak, and I hesitate, procrastinate, before the words leave.

"... I'm sorry, David—"

He was my friend, he gave me his trust, and his affection when I asked for it-- but, I threw it away. What connection I had in this city— To see a daughter that wouldn't be mine anymore-- No. No- I know how I can see my daughter again. It was with them. He isn't worth throwing my family away. He'd understand- he'd do the same.

"You would do the same-- if you knew. You don't know— It's my only choice, David."

All he does is stare at me in response, the look in his eyes is pity- disappointment. Sickness and disdain, all conveyed through his expression, his relaxed eyes as he almost seems to give up on life then and there. He runs his hand down his face, leaning back against the couch he sat upon as the distant thud of steel-toe boots echoed closer, and closer.

"Is it?"

He asked, with a melancholic expression on his face... He was about as old as me. Did he understand— Maybe... Maybe he had a family- a son, or daughter of his own? I can't-- I don't know. I couldn't think on it and—

He'd never get an answer, as the door kicks open— and a flash grenade meets the floor. I close my eyes.

And the world goes dark.

1751927537398.jpeg

Bang.

A body drops to the floor, a bullet case hits the floor. The last breath exits his body, and I pull the weapon back. Blood covers his coat, and drips beneath the floor below. A glance to the right reveals another who met a similar fate. A glance to the left reveals another, waiting his turn. I glance down at the man I just executed— Hesitation and disgust clouding my mind. I didn't like this part of the job-- but it pays well, and the perks to match make it worth it in my mind. It makes it easier, when you have a purpose. It isn't senseless murder, it's just what you need to do, to get what you want.

I want my daughter back, I always have. It's what I've been chasing for these months, ever since I betrayed one of my only friends for this job. I take four steps to my left, stopping infront of the next man, staring at the wall shaking. He looks up and cries his heart out. I scoff in dissatisfaction— Why is he making my job harder? You're the one that chose this path-- be responsible for your own mistakes, you fucking hypocrite.

His body collapses to the floor, as another gunshot echoes on the rooftops. The bullet impacting concrete, dust and stone displaced as they thump against the ground. Staining the floor with their iridescent ichor. I breathe in through the mask, as I look up. They gave me a reward for doing this. It always feels nice- getting that attention, recognition. It was hard catching these pricks, even harder to hold my food down my stomach as their blood stains the bottom of my boot.

Nothing is ever easy.

How long have I been here, serving at this City, as an officer?

They let me talk to my daughter, even see her— They said they'll let me visit her in person, soon.

That's why I keep doing, what I do. At the end-- it'll be worth all of the blood I spilt.

Character Name: Patrick O'Malley
(if applicable) Role: Conscript Sergeant
(if applicable) Tagline: N/A
Faction: City One Conscripted Stabilization Force

Pre-War

Patrick O'Malley was Born In County Cork, Ireland. Patrick had lived all his life just outside the city of Cork. As a small boy, Patrick had grown up in an average Irish Catholic household, attending mass every Sunday and playing with his friends after school. As Patrick got older and it was time for him to find work, and he ultimately decided to join the Óglaigh na hÉireann (Irish Defence Force). Receiving basic military training, Patrick had found a new home in the barracks stationed not far from home with the 1st Infantry Battalion, Galway. For the next couple of years, Patrick would serve in the Defence Force, reaching the rank of Corporal until his discharge from service at the age of twenty six where he would go on to work several small jobs until the black mesa incident and the Combine invasion of Earth.

1750174166498.png

Post-War
Patrick used to live in City 16. After spending years under Combine rule, he eventually got used to how things worked. Life wasn’t great, but it was stable. He worked as a low-level collaborator, doing small jobs like working in stores and for a short time worked as a clerk under city 16's Ministry of Commerce. Because of this, the Combine mostly left him alone. While others were taken away or forced to live in worse parts of the city, Patrick managed to stay safe by not causing problems. Patrick believed that this was his new life, and to collaborate would be his best chance at survival. After spending a year in City 16 one day he would walk under a camera, and instead of the normal amber glow that would follow a bright blinking red flashed all around you and a deafening alarm from the camera fills the room, shortly after being detained by the local civil protection units and brought into the nexus the blindfold was removed and Patrick found himself standing on a wall with a couple men who also have found themselves in the same situation standing to his left and right. Standing in front of Patrick was a man in a military olive green uniform who looked like he had seen hell and back. Patrick has been selected for mandatory conscription into the Conscripted Stabilization Force. Selected for his past military service, he would then be forced onto a train and sent to a facility where he would undergo training.

1750174258029.png

Conscripted Stabilization Force Service
Taking up the little training the combine provides you, Patrick would be no stranger to many of the concepts being taught by his commanders. He would spend time being deployed on the streets of City 16, assisting Civil Protection and even overwatch forces in anything ranging from conducting searches on citizens to the occasional firefight with an anti-citizen inside the relatively peaceful city. Until new orders have come into his command, he is to be sent to City 1 to assist the mobilisation of their Conscripted Stabilization Force. Promoted to sergeant following this new assignment, unlike the past conscripts coming from backgrounds of common criminals, like them, Patrick is also conscripted by force, but Patrick is a professional soldier to match the consul's new standing professional army

1750175159816.png

Character Stakes
With his life on the line, and his fellow conscripts' lives in his hands, Patrick is in the city not of his own will but by force, he was sent to the city unwillingly and did not have a say in it. If he is to gain anything, it surely would outweigh the risk of death, not only for him but for the soldiers that would be put under his squad. But with nothing left for him to come back to, City 1 is his new home and the only thing for him to earn is a one way ticket out of the city or a hole in the ground.

STEPHANIE ROBERTS
At least, for now.

Friend,

Kind-Hearted,

Compassionate,

Empathetic,

Is what you would've heard having asked the average medical intern in the smog-filled Industrial sector of City-24 of who this woman was. Stopping to help those in need and going onto seek employment within the Medical Union to do what she did best and help those in need. Taking time out of her day to be a shoulder to lean on as well as making sure your woes were heard as she tried her hardest to resolve them.

That's what you would've heard in Industrial-24. Back before it collapsed and she was moved around the world like an grand game of keep-away. From Industrial-24 she ventured, from the rotted and unexplainable docks of Industrial-46, the winding back alleys and bureaucratic jewel of City-8, the abandoned and frost swept husk that was Terminal-7 culminating in her inevitable return to the Swiss Capital of City-24. All the whilst leaping her own hurdles and ordeals, all of which when confronted for help swatted away with a nonchalant "I'm fine".

There it was in City-24 the cracks began to show. That of the rotten structures foundations began to give way. It began with one of her closest friends toiled into a gambit for power, then another one slowly pulled into the elaborate and deathly dance that was the Collaborator's Party. Slowly and surely the establishment's hooks dug into her and her companions surrounding her. Awarding them with power, prestige and luxury whilst others toiled in their place. All they had to do? Nod and smile blindly to the regime.

And what they received? The one roped into the gambit awarded to the illustrious office of Vice-Administrator, the one who was timid and hesitated at the last moment, cast out by her so-called friends to slump around her workspace and luxury apartment others would toil away for, the young fool, awarded with the position of First Secretary of that web of backstabbing, lies and deceit and Stephanie herself, the burden of Medical Union Director. Responsible for an entire districts welfare and health, with a phantom hook embedded into them all as their delicate states all began to fray and unwind between them all, their personalities and attitudes on the world being remolded into the Regime's vision.

If you were to ask other people now? Their responses would shock you.

View attachment 44050

Blunt,

Abrasive,

'Bitch',

Dismissive.

Slowly but surely the Regime re-molded Stephanie in their light. Turning that once welcoming Intern into yet another cog in the machine. Then again, it'd been like that all along for her. Ever since Earth's so-called 'Ascension' when she was still but an infant. Taken away and placed into a place of 'Education' and 'Enlightenment', never to properly meet her real family instead latching onto a scientist from City-32 and that same Vice Administrator now disgraced and cast out by that very same party, both of them being her role-models and examples in her path, although she doesn't listen to them as much as she used to now. Instead throwing in with that very same party who casted out one of them as well as one of her closest friends without a second thought.

Character Stakes:

You see, ego is a thing that if left unchecked can consume a person. Dismissiveness, being uncaring as well as believing you're owed everything when in reality you've earnt nothing are all tell-tale signs. And ego is exactly what drove Stephanie to City-1. Her interest piqued in a tent in a work camp out in the battle-scarred ruins of City-24 by a jump suited and silver-tongued representative. Mentions of such luxuries as an office, private workspaces and collaboration with some of the finest medical and scientific minds of the last generation all culminating in yet more prestige and power to her name, yet more hooks sinking into the Director.

And hooks that pulled her in. So she leaned into those hooks, sending a hail to City-1 with an interest in assisting with their so-called 'Summer Vacancies', thinking she'd be working on menial progressive assignments or assisting medically and overseeing public health.

Early accept due to circumstances. ;)

Character Backstory:

Freshly spawned to Xen slid into shackles of the oppressor he worked us tirelessly and we never truly understood freedom but we thirsted for it. This was not home it was merely a spot where their eyes could not gaze for now no issues to be made for now. When the chance to jump to a new world to yet again evade a threat was offered there was little choice but to agree to blast through what layed beyond the veil to deceive and fool these shackles into thinking us complacent.

When one of these creatures however cracked our shackles our selfish realization came to fruition, but with the damage done what else could we do? Hide in the underbelly for now avoid the ire of the enslavers until we can come up with a true plan to keep this freedom and perhaps apologize to these strange creatures we now reside with.

During the events of New Jersey he helped the humans in a few ways with his kin Ves'Ahno Narda helping them clear a hospital of bandits and further helping shield them from the military for a time when the survivors chose not to hand over the Vortigaunts. On the last day with the help of their kin and elder they tore New Jersey asunder bringing the last of their kin they could over and with a new human friend.

Over the latest years they kept their head down and stuck to the shadows avoiding any extra ire from anyone. Now they hover around New York proper looking to yet again be of some use.

Character Stakes: (Why are they in City 1? Are they intending to gain or seek something?)
They are trying their best to work towards a greater end goal than themselves and to try and the fellow humans on the planet

Last of a line known only by one name she has forgotten

Following remorseless destiny towards the bottles end

Left in the dark, choosing to follow flames

A castoff puppet, which needs no strings.
1751119091006.png

It has been a long, arduous time since the concerns of loss or further destitution have gripped the wayward of Claudia. A woman of many titles in a bygone world. Chief among all; Mother and wife. Now, she is betrothed only to the system which tore away all else. Caretaker of a status quo which hinders and impedes all others, but keeps the chalice full. All that is left.

Much of her life following the decimation of City Eight's fifty-second district was defined by relocations. Temporary, rat-logged dwellings that festered amongst paranoia and twisted perceptions. Without family, the past lost its clarity. Without friends, the future lost purpose. Without any connections of meaning, the present became a burden. Bouncing across the world in ragged cars filled with ragged folk unwilling to exchange even a glance, all humanity lost its identity.

Years passed. Abandoned to the lonesome dark.

Poisons became the cure. In poverty, sea-blue cans provided, in time, numbness fit to correct ceaseless longing. The chemical sting mattering less and less as the flavorless, bitter brew slowly twisted towards a desired craft. In moderation, a river of whiskey rapids, guided her along the daily path. A path composed of deeds. That which was vile slowly corrected, becoming casual. Thoughtless. Blood unseen, never truly spilled.

In wealth, she followed wines and drugs, colorful deluges of distractions. Ceaseless compensations of misery brightening the world. She cannot even remember when she was brought to the first city. The fumes and fogs carried along all memories now, splotches of better times and worthy faces obscured as ever. Yet, here she has remained.

Mustering favor, not through political cunning or remorseless fervor. Not through bludgeoning rhetoric or hapless worship. Her favor comes from dependability. For the hand which feeds is the one that drives. A muffled mind, fallen to static, blurred images of an alter-reality which is composed of misfiring nerves and invisible sight. Ambition only for the bottles end.

And so, she maintains her position as one of the consuls, perhaps unconventional, extended voices. Though her words are slurred, and meanings pivoted between broken thoughts, the message is clear.

You too, can be free.

Free of thought. Free of burden. A supplicant of whatever joy remains to be harvested in this toxic, barren land. Happiness is easy. When you forget everything, and everyone, that ever made you sad. Some find loyalty in allegiance. Others at the end of a barrel. She speaks to all others, who find it at the bottom of the bottle.

Character traits:
1751119752087.png
Substance

Abuser
Addicted and outright dependent on a variety of substances. Her attitude is shaped by them, as are her desires. An easy dependency for her betters to exploit. Or, possibly, her foes.
1751122896791.png
Frail and Elderly
Aged by both years and imbibement into the last scarcities that provide momentary escape from a tragic reality. She relies heavily on the strength of others.
1751123951207.png
Misanthropic
Though enjoying the perks of the vestiges of Combine society, she holds no real affection for it, or its members. Nor, any care for its dissidents. Or anyone else, anymore. She is a distant personality, only concerned for the moment.
1751124539510.png
Ignorant
Having spent an extended period in City-One, she remains utterly unaware of any events not strictly admitted to her. Exists within a bubble. Doesn't appreciate attempts to break this frail barrier either.

Applying for this character as I believe it could be interesting to give 'life' to an entity which has partly driven much of my Main Server characters choices ever since her time at the CCA. Transfers may also get an IC kick out of meeting her, much more sinister, mother. Certainly not a rehash of Emiyo, nor is she aware of anything Emiyo has done, or that she is even alive.

1751127420033.png
Inheritor of a broken system

Baron of lives and warden of dreams

Beneficiary of corruption and greed

An heir looking for a better kingdom
1751127443921.png

Born to wealth and riches beyond the means of any man or woman beneath his station. One earned before he could breathe. Clairston was an up-and-coming name in the New York real estate business. A quarter of The City belonged to him, heir of his father legacy. His power and his wits. His schemes and corruption. For the price of the world was laid out plainly to Henry, always within numerical reach for the real-estate jockey.

But so his name came-and-went. A sliver of justice made it way through the cracks, trapped between the ambitions of two evil men. A cell closed about one of them. Even enraptured by the system he controlled, he remained a baron of it. The guards and doctors in his pocket - same as anyone else. Granted early release, not through corruption, but unseen tragedy.

The urban ruins, streets he used to own, provided shelter. His father was nowhere to found, for the empire - Clairston Holdings - was all that held him home. Through those ruins, he gathered a solitary remnant of that empire. Gold and silver, whos value only lasted longer than the dollars trailing from his pockets.

Years passed. Those he knew, faded away. Bribing the last of what owned towards a leadership position of a local militia, operated by the United States, he spent the last of his lonesome empire. This too, did not last. The arrival of yet another threat, The Combine, stripping him of his last material vestiges. His last responsibilities.

Henry spent two decades wandering the world. Starting as a likewise victim. For these new gods you could not bribe. He slipped the yoke of his chains, only for himself. Wandering beyond the cities reach. Gathering what remnants he could of his old self.

Eventually he found purchase within the patriots, old connections paying off one final time. He became little more than a logistics officer, number cruncher safely hidden behind secure doors. Beyond the walls, defeats mounted. Losses stacked. Safety dried, but he did not move.

Lieutenant Clairston of the Patriot resistance, now settles into City One. The heart of an old empire, and fragment of the new. The best of what bad options remain for the tasks which lie ahead. No hero, nor serpent of the undergrounds frontlines. He's only Henry, brought to this by a door.
Whether having opened, or closed, none can say. Least of all himself.

Character traits:
Henry, despite his general lack of experience, is an intensely competent firearms handler. Armed with a signature gold-plated Desert Eagle at all times. The last of an, now ancient, empire.1751130052727.png

Exceptional
Marksman
Henry is not a regular at the front lines, let alone, within the enemies own. While no stranger to combat or danger, he is no saboteur. Brought to the field only out of a growing casualty list, and a lacking replacement roster.1751130993866.png

Inexperienced Commander
Henry, for all his improvements from his old life as one of New York's prominent barons, is still Henry. Self-importance isn't far removed from his tenures, and even tamed as it is, can be potent by normal standards.1751131597915.png

Narcissistic
Business was his life before it came apart. While he lacks the capital that bought him his empire, he still retains his old bargaining knowledge. Where a deal can be made, at a profit, he's likely to make that effort to secure it.1751132107238.png
