Hello, your fellow DOB lead here!!!
To preface- your voices have been heard! We've done a lot of behind the scenes discussions and want to hear all of your input in this single forum thread.
To be brutally honest here- yes, the i17 event was a clusterfuck. We weren't given a lot of time to set ourselves up in i17, and essentially had to throw out whatever stores we could to people last minute. There was interference from other parties, our office was set up for us in an area on the catwalks that was unreachable, it made equipment management nearly untenable, and the list goes on. It was an absolute mess.
But because of this, we want to come back on c24 stronger than ever and refine our system to be a LOT more player friendly. Our biggest hope is to make running a store more engaging and, ultimately, more fun.
We've heard your suggestions regarding more independent stores, renting out particular stores themselves instead of relying solely on permanent tenancy, etc. and there are good ideas that we will VERY likely be implementing in some form. The organizational aspects of the DOB will eventually be managed again, but that leaves one very important question I wish to ask the community and would love to focus in on:

What do YOU believe will make operating a store more fun and engaging and less sitting behind a counter and afk'ing until someone walks up?

Any and all suggestions are welcome, no matter how good, bad, big or small you think it might be. We will read them all!

Ok I appreciate the shitposting as much as the next guy, but some genuine suggestions would be incredibly based. Especially if people want to see improvement

While I'm not entirely sure how this would be executed, I think being a member of the DOB could be potentially more interesting if the DOB just did more things in general, such as organize events for the city and what not, which from what I understand they might already be able to do, but I'm not entirely certain. But just more responsibilities in general outside of running a store counter, because that gets very boring very quick. I don't really have any examples off the top of my head outside of like the time Heartwick made a ridiculous order for clothes that we weren't even supposed to handle. I lost a fuck ton of credits but it was still a fun little moment.

Look, I got some ideas myself... But

custom scripts, the ability to play custom music would be cool (in bars and shit), more autonomy of stores, allowing more stores to hire people a lot easier would be nice

Less work required to open a store. Less DoB involvement all around. Make it possible to have a store without being a DoB member.

Any system that depends on other players being active will always be unreliable. This massive amount of micromanagement and gatekeeping is unnecessary; Citizen faction is known for having the most freedom and agency and that should be preserved.

DOB involvement will always be needed, it's necessary for organization/checks and balances. Even if there was no DOB system at all, you'd still need a trusted person with a Combine PDA to hire people on, give permits, change datafiles, approve concepts, etc. It's like saying you don't need the CWU to set up workshifts. Store managers are there to ensure they're keeping up with everyone, same as any other department in the city. And if they're not doing their job, then they get replaced.

But I'm definitely going to move towards making more stores less permanently held and more rentable. That way we get more people in, and when they're bored of it, they're very easy to kick out and move on to the next idea.

Something like the above mentioned DoB PDA or a similar entity would be great.

More rentability would be nice instead of the 'manager' system which seems to get in the way alot

I just remembered there was that rentable stalls idea I sent to you forever ago in discord too KG
