Freed Vortigaunt requirements | Biotic RP

So... The complaint is simple, prepare for lots of ranting.

The OOC requirements for freeing a vortigaunt seem flawed on my eyes. I understand the need of a minimum of two weeks of pure activity for a new vortigaunt that was just added to the roster. They need to seem active on the character they just acquired, want to play it, you need to review their roleplay, how they have been doing, see if they get allies, enemies, whatever. They are just required to roleplay and get to know other people.

But for vortigaunts that have been around since long ago, old characters, such as my vortigaunt or any other vortigaunt that was once free and already went through that same process it is tiring. The requirement should be lowered or atleast be made more flexible. Biotic RP in general is full of flaws in my eyes, it is not engaging, it is not fun, and the only moment it turns into something even barely interesting, is when you already sold your soul to Captain Combine and got nullified for a couple of SC. Or when you grind for more than 2 weeks just to get a boring job in a clinic that is bombed twice a day.

Vortigaunt's can't do much aside from sit around, talk and barely help in minor events as their collar leaves them stuck to the slums or the main streets. GMs don't exactly pay much mind to them either, so they are left stranded only able to do passive RP for 2 straight weeks and nothing else, some may say it's good! But other people, such as me, get bored. We have been through this once, twice, thrice. In my personal record I have been through this a total of three times, and one was a nullification, all with the same character.

Biotic RP is not fun, unless you decide to surrender your character being a vortigaunt (Nullification) and turning them into an unlimited edition blue suit with more than 2 eyes.

I ask of leads to either, make the requirements more flexible, or find a way to turn Biotic RP into something properly engaging for the players that have done it more than once. Because it is tiring, it is not fun, 90% of the map is restricted and you are left at the mercy of a rogue GM that decides to do an event that doesn't lead into outlands or sewers.

Thanks for coming to my rant/TED talk. I expect an answer from the leads at some point.

Hello!

First of all, I use Biotic as a term for regular shackled Vortigaunts. Those to get nullified to become a Loyalist, I refer to as Loyalist Vortigaunts. Just to avoid confusion for the rest of the post.

Now, to start with, is BioticRP fun? Well, BioticRP is what a certain Vortigaunt player makes of their character. It is true that they are pretty limited in their ability to do things. They cannot really fight, they are restricted in going underground and they are discriminated against.
Having fun as a Biotic, especially if you're more RebelRP inclined, is more difficult than as a free Vortigaunt. But that is not an issue.
This "two week time limit" isn't some arbitrary waiting list period, hence the activity requirement. It is to test if people are capable of the dreaded "PassiveRP". To test if the player is able to have fun and play a character on a baseline level of what a Vortigaunt has access to.

Now, while it isn't super strictly enforced, the Vortigaunt Faction by design is intended to be more on the passive side of things. There are restrictions to what you can become on the Loyalist ladder, and there are restrictions to howmuch of a rebel you can be. This leads to the philosophy that Vortigaunts should simply passiveRP with eachother or humans most of the time.

Now, allow me to say something controversial.
If you require handholding by a GM, or power over other players through an IC position, or the ability to laserbeam CivPro and open lootboxes in the sewer to enjoy playing a character, maybe the Vortigaunt faction is not for you.
And thus, the two week of passiveRP "Gauntlet" that is a requirement to be freed, is very much a test to see if you're even fit for the faction in the first place, and especially the heightened responsibilities and abilities of a free Vortigaunt.

I can assure you, that currently the bar for the RP that needs to be done over the two weeks-ish is set extremely low already. It is by all accounts a participation award at this point.
Just because you previously played a free Vortigaunt shouldn't hinder you in the ability to passiveRP for two weeks. You can still just talk with your rebel friends in the slums apartments. Or just talk with anyone on the streets really. Instead of being the one requesting Roleplay by made by them, be the one to entertain others. There is a lot that you can do, and asking that you think outside the box really shouldn't be considered a big ask.

To specifically cover your questions:
make the requirements more flexible
The bar is in the ground.

or find a way to turn Biotic RP into something properly engaging
Short term your own creativity in PassiveRP should be more than enough to cover the 2 week period. Remember that the IC scene changes every day because it isn't just you interacting with the server, it is 40-60 people daily interacting with the server and writing a collaborative story.

Long term bioticRP is something that can be looked at, for Vortigaunts who neither want to be freed, or want to become loyalists. We welcome ideas on that front, and would gladly hear the people out intending to take that character in that direction.

Finally;
just to get a boring job in a clinic that is bombed twice a day.
Gee I wonder who did that...

Anyways, I hope this provides you some insights as to why things are the way they are.

Kind regards,
