Implemented Give Helmets SOME level of insulation + actually give them some utility

This is a good suggestion. Give the helmet light insulation so that it isn't completely inferior to the beanie (which you should be able to just put on beneath your helmet anyways realistically, also it will still be completely inferior to the beanie cause there's no reason to not wear the cheaper item that offers more so)

I don't know why anyone would argue in favor of keeping any item in a useless spot other than because they'd just like to clown on the person who posted this. We added cold mechanics for a reason and the items in-game should be a reflection of the new system.

Don't give them armor though.

Knucklehead McSpazzatron.

An actually alright suggestion for gameplay, even if a bit unrealistic. I'm downvoting it. Fuck you and your good ideas.
I mean, atleast give it light - minimal insulation that CWU hats get.

Considering it model wise covers up more, it makes sense. Or, make CWU hat give no insulation Idk

willard be like yeah guys lets add thermals to ota helmets but giving light insulation to the regular helmet is too far

Metal is notoriously bad at protecting from the cold. Therefore a metal helmet would not be a good thing to wear in cold climates, hence the beanies under it in IRL examples

The idea for combining them however, is a solid one I'll give you that

Not all irl images got beanies under though, it's why I put them in, alongside one with the beanie.

Jokes aside

Minimal insulation is not really a big issue. If it enables further drip opportunities, whatever.

Armor is a big no-no. Willard balance is notoriously shit and small little changes like this just make it worse. Five extra armor doesn't sound like alot, but its armor exclusive to rebels which then causes CP's to ponder if their helmet should be given five armor to keep up with the rebels. The Vort leads then argue that Vortigaunts need to be able to have automatic fire on their beams since rebels don't have the extra five armor by default.
Another joke but the idea is there.
Long story short...no armor.

armor for this should be considered in a s2rp scenario. Steel helmets mostly protect the head from sharpnel, bumps and perhaps a small bullet but that's about they can protect your head for.

I like the idea.
Seems useful. Armor is something unrelated so I will not provide an opinion on this.

Crafting recipe should be as simple as helmet and a beanie. Anything beyond this would be ultimately unreasonable as the two components should be separate. There should also be a backwards craft to receive a helmet and beanie item, in the event the weather warms or you wish to divide the whole for any reason.

Insulation would be reasonable to reduce Extreme to Heavy, as metal conducts the cold and could potentially serve as incentive to decide what you will wear, should you not be min-maxing on all insulation factors. These are my thoughts on the matter. It is a good idea.

The following is unrelated. I am a hypocrite.

The current price of the helmet serves as unreasonable. The whole raw cost being somewhere in the area of around twelve Metal Scrap, seven Boxes of Screws, or so far as I remember the values whilst away from the Crafting screen. Two Iron, perhaps one Box of Screws(though the Iron likely serves a decent cost enough), using a Metal Workbench would be more reasonable in my opinion. That amount totals in raw materials to eight Metal Scrap, and three Boxes of Screws.
It still serves a cost, but it is more reasonable as the general cost is reduced and Rivets are no longer included. It most *especially* pales in comparison when you note that an item detailed as providing armor costs *less*, in the form of Resistance Attire, serving a cost of one Iron, a purchasable clothing item, and what I remember to be one Adhesive, being cheaper in total raw resource cost. I will receive some hatred, especially taking into account the fact I am unaware of the total posited armor provided by said Resistance Attire(If any, should the recipe description lie), but it should cost more if it does indeed provide armor. I was frankly surprised by the cost compared to the helmet, since it supposedly has utility.

However, I will note this does pose the risk of far more people crafting a helmet due to the cheaper cost, and thus higher appearances of helmets. To that issue I address as such-
Posers will stay posers. A cheaper helmet won't change that.
Fashion before function, bitch.

Thank you for your time.

Armor may not be able to do due to the way armor is tied to chest clothing item, might be able to tell it to ADD to the armor but will need to check another time.

Overall can give it some cold insulation plus make a better insulated version for if you combine it with Beanie
