I'm not sure what you meant by this, considering nebulous.cloud is topping the charts and, while it may be hyperbolic, killing Willard. Also, corruption? Didn't it spawn from Lemonpunch, a community with shit-tons of corruption? I thought they wanted to move away from that.
lol
Here's the thing, whenever someone mentions RPG systems in this community they are usually thinking about things like Skyrim/Fallout/Etc
This mindset is so antithetical to roleplay and the script's skill system currently screams it.
Let me give a very simple contrast between a RPG system today and a Traditional RPG system.
RPG: If I raise my barter skill to 50, I get 50% off!!!!
PnP: If I raise my barter skill to 6, I have a higher chance of getting success and also have the chance to make a argument to the DM through roleplay that may give me a benefit regarding bonuses / success amount.
The writing is on the wall, which one is better for rp in general? It's very obvious. This is how Willard missed the mark- this is why Lead Game Designers exist. Wanna' learn how to have a good system? Put down the controller and pick up a piece of paper and a pencil and get together with some friends for a change.
Spend 10 minutes developing a character, designing their history, where they came from. Spend another 10 minutes getting down what they are good at, where they are weak and where they are strong. Now play your character and let the DM craft a story infront of you as you interact with it.
You can very quickly discover who is a shit DM just like you can discover who is a Shit Admin in Garrysmod Roleplay because the crossover is incredible. You can also learn very quickly how to make a GOOD event chain through DMing.
How does it cross over?
-Well, very simply. "You enter a large cold dusty tomb, tomes line the wall as a faint fickle light glows in the North-Eastern corner of the room. Before you a pale elderly man sits cross legged upon a Alter as he echoes the words
"Ç̵̟̝̙͔̘̟̹̖̺͓͕̾͒̇̆͒t̷̨̬́̇̃̇̎̓̎̏̇̿̂͗̏͝͠ͅh̷̢̢̫̩̰͔̬̲͇̦̭̲̀̓́̓͗͜ͅư̶̗̪̼̹̪͉͙͍͚͋͒̈́̉̓̐͘͜ͅļ̵̢̡̛̟͎̻̥͈̳̺̟̖͎̙̓̑̃̽̑͗͑̅͂̋͘̚͘͝u̵͕̜͙̖͇͕͆͛ ̷̠̟͇͕͓͎̰̯̫̟͕̞͊̀̋͒̐̚ć̸̡̨͎͖̤͔̱̩̼̏̇́͐̌̂̋̈́͌͘͜͝ỏ̸̫͙͎̈́̆͑̃̏͆̀͘̕͘͠͝m̵̡̢̡̞͔̳̯̭͖̩̫̘͋̽͆͆̀̄̕e̷͚̋͒̀͋̍̓͋̓̽͂̋̽s̶̡̧̢̭̭͎̜̈̽͛͐͗̔͘͘!̵͓͓͔̍̃̑̽̆́͝ ̶̡̛̩̘̝̗̤͌͐͊͆̒̐̂̄̀̕͝͠C̶̢͖̙̭̺͈̟̙̑̔̔͜ͅͅt̵̺̲̮̱̎̀̌ḧ̶̢̗̙̪̫̮̠̖́̅̄̑̋̊̇͝ư̷̢̤̫̙͈̘̮̼͎͕͆͗̒͂̈́̋̓̈́͋͜ͅḷ̵̛̼͎̒̃̾̾̀̄̽ủ̸̞͇̙͕͓͙̱̼̣̂̾́͝ ̴̡̩͉̳͎͈̣́̓̽̄̂̌̾́̓̃̊̓̚̚W̵̡̨̠̠̠̙͑͑̌̔̂͌͐͌̋̐́̽͘͘ͅä̵̡̨̰̟͕̘́̐̇͂t̵̛̲̫̰̪͖̰̙́́̎̍͒͐̈́̆̒͛̄̚͜c̵̡̢̛̘̪͈̱͖̞̘͚̰̟̝̓͛́̂̓̇͆̇͌̾̽̀h̴̨̨͙̤̬̳̞̹͑̔̈́̀͜e̸̛̜̬̠͈̱̱̪͓̮̯̫͋̋͝ş̵̫͔͕̦͒̎͗̀̽̂̏͂͒̾͌͘̚͝͠!̸̢͉̠̭͚̯͌͋͒̈͋̾͐̈́͋͘͘̚̚ ̵̛̣̖̄̓́̈͆̊͌̔̿̚ ̷̨̭̮̱̹̣̈́͗̈͂̆͐̃̽̕ͅḄ̶̫̱̭̥̈́̎̆́̈̆͑͊̾̍̕͜͝e̶̬̼͉̠̬͔̙̟͇̤̮̔͗̓̿͋̀͛̅̑̽̄͆͜h̶̬̕ȏ̷̢̧̡̢̰̟̻̫̼̌̇̉̇̾͛͒͋̂̔̅̚̕͝ļ̵̟̠͌d̶̡̥͚͕̬̦̙̲̼̩̥̝̠̿͌̿͒͋̈́̀͆̕̚̕͝ ̵̧̺̯̩̥̳̮̩̆̆͒̊͗͝͝t̸̨̨̢̪͉͖̺̞͍̳̘͎̬̤̫͐́͂̿͗͆̈́̀̔̚͠h̴̙̎̀͊͂̌̽̕ẻ̸̩̮̣̺̺̭̗̗̎͊̓̌̌̎̕ͅ ̵̡͖̼̫̬͙͚̥͖̠͓͗̇̔͆̄͆́͆́͌̎͝ͅͅd̸̦̼̯̥̋̐͊̄͜e̸̱̋̈́͒̒̒̏̑̾̊̈́̎̒̈́̚e̸̯̹̭͇̮̼͆̆p̵̧̳̝͇͔̩͇̫̰̪̾,̸̨̱̱̺͚̗͉̝̹̲͙͈̃͌̃̈́͗̇͒̓͒ ̴̢̨̛̱̫̲̗̘͓̦͚̟̱̪́̃͆̀b̶̝͓̣͕̜͖̦̬͂̇͊͋͜ẽ̸̡̢̻̮̻̥̭̱͇̦̻̦̜̉̿̒́͂̀̚͠h̸̩͓̮̝̱̺͕̀̓̽̂̅̇͗̀̍̿̎̚o̸̪̺̗̗̼̹̝͈̺͒͜l̴̨̪̥̯̮̠̜̩̭͖̟͙̺̲̀̉̈̿̃͆͘͝ͅd̷̥̳̖̗̯̞̋͊̊̐͘ ̶̩͍̻͉͙͓̪̣͓̻͙̗̅̀̀͑̋̐̈́̕ͅt̶͈̝̣̳̤̩͓̩̩̯͉̜̀̐̋̑̀͠͝h̷̨̡̢͓̪̤͉̺̹̥̯͔̰̓́̀̋̎̋̂̎̕̕͠ͅe̵̜͉̒͂̊̆̈́̌̈͐͗́̈́͘͝͝͝ ̷̢̩̄̅̐̋̌̿͂̄́d̴͎̯̬͙͍̣͙̎̑͋̅̏̏̅̑́̾̔̈͝͠ę̴̞̳̟̠̖͚͔̬̈̓͋̑̌̃̈́̌̄̆̓͘͝͠͝ě̴̡̱̱̖p̴̩̰͎̑̽̅̊̌̈́̂̄̓̂̔̆̅ͅ!̵̧̨̼̜̺̤̯͎̳̥̳̮̮̹̏̍̒̾̌̈͆́̔͋͌͊̄͠""
Whilst in contrast a worse DM would say something along the lines of- "You enter a big room inside the tomb, a old man is sitting on a alter and saying stuff."
This is how in general most PnP games go, it follows the exact means to which a Garrysmod event coordinator operates and it translates in a myriad of other ways such as knowing properly how to scale the enemies, reward loot, etc. These are all very important skills a good event coordinator on Gmod should know.
Yet- no one in this community seems to understand it, what a shame.
Thanks for coming to my Ted-X talk.
Watch that series if you're genuinely interested in this shit, you'll learn some really important fundementals to making a good event that people can enjoy if you can use your brain in a interesting context for a moment. (Series gets better and better btw, it's also everyones first time playing.)
