You will never believe any of this despite seeing the screenhsot of the sniper rifle, the fact that Duchy is holding a Uzi and literally receiving food supplies every single night by a random fresh spawn character full with high tier food will you?
or the fact an unnamed staff member in this very OP was doing dodgy shit with permits and SCs passing them off to himself and buddies. Oh hey look one of the lads who disagreed with me are the ones who investigated it! Yo what’s up turtle man.

I'm very shocked you decided to post in a CCC for once. Hey, how're ya? So, while we have you here- besides the standard PR corporate response could you offer up a explanation as to why you decided to ignore the vast amount of other CCCs in the past and step in NOW for this one? Remember the one made by your own staff listing out the problems CPs had? Or the issues regarding the economy? Or how focused the server is on script items rather than roleplay?

Don't give me the standard EA corporate response that "we hear you", "we have plans!", "our staff team is ready and willing!" because clearly that isn't the case. Far from it. Explain what you are actually going to do. If you're just going to do nothing again and just continue to launch with the new map tomorrow then just tell us. Do you intend to make the server less about script items and more about RP? Does player choice actually matter and you'll let them devise their own plans to solve an IC issue? Are we going to keep seeing staff members making their own factions to supply themselves equipment and SCs? Your staff team seems to offset the issue claiming it's just a difference in timezone- That's absolute bullshit because of the group I play with I'm the only North American player and my European friends seem to have the same experience- if not a WORSE experience.

You seem to be slightly confused, nothing to be ashamed about!

What his post said was that we are currently figuring out exactly what is in the best interests of the server.
Whether we keep it active and slowly apply the updates and fixes over time, while still allowing everyone to play on it as usual. Or if we initiate a pause upon the server to allow us to more efficiently overhaul concepts and address issues, without having to worry about addressing events currently going on within an active server. All complaints have been heard! If they weren't this wouldn't even be up for discussion.

Just for you, here is a non-PR version:

Get over yourself please. Obviously complaints have not been ignored otherwise this wouldn't even be happening. There are many problems, and all constructive criticism has been received. We have much to do and many things to address, even if you'd like to pretend we don't acknowledge this, we do. Show some decency, please.

Give us a reason to play here.

today I’ll have to make the difficult call whether we do indeed charge on with i17 as promised or if we pause for a longer period to revisit gameplay, add missing features and analyze where it went wrong for a much smoother re-launch. If we do decide for a re-launch, City 24 V3 will also be ready and in the meantime we'd offer Short Stories to be complete for those interested.

Dat's 🧢, og.

Most of these complaints were a simple fix in the very first place. From day 1 till now.

Saying "We heard you." doesn't mean shit if nothing has been acted on. This is a literal echo of repeated incidents each day, one after another with the same people yawning and saying "We hear you." It takes a fuck ton of threads already to drill it into the teams brain something needs to be done asap and that's just to get a effective response and to get the gears shifting. There is a plethora of examples I can alone demonstrate (And I have in the past.) to be simple fixes to glaring issues that've been ignored to just instead go for some highly dense beurocratic route that takes waiting for a literal map change to just do -anything.-

The only sniper rifles spawned was used by an event character made by @Xanthum the Mighty. He, and every other gamemaster, has since been informed to avoid using high-end weaponry for their characters. The Uzi, indeed, was spawned as a reward for a rather risky event. The staff member that did this, however, was in his trial period, and the act itself was not malicious in any way or shape. He has since been made clear on why that sort of stuff is not allowed, and our GM guide has been updated to reflect that.

As for the food claim, I hardly see an issue with that. Moreover, that was not even exclusive to the Dutchy, but unaffiliated citizens and smaller groups as well.

Look into how the Styx was originally founded.
I've already explained this countless of times before, but I will do so again since literacy seems to be in short supply these days. The Duchy, at the time, was set up by an event character who supplied them with nothing. They started off as a rather large group who quickly figured out how the scavenging system worked. That, and considering they had contacts in the Union, is the reason for their great success, not admin intervention. They were given no supplies or weaponry. Everything they had, at that point, was crafted themselves.

Source: logs, and the CM's all looked into this for hours to get to the bottom of this.

Now, what's the Daniels case?

I Agree.

My point is things have been done. multiple complaints have been addressed, and there are many things in the works. Truth be told though we can't instantly fix every problem that's wrong. if we try and instantly fix things without thinking we're just going to end up breaking them in some other way and end up in an endless loop. Maybe things are going too slow, that's I think a fair statement, but it is not as if nothing has changed and that nothing has been addressed. To say so is hyperbolic.

Some of the problems the server has are pretty large. You can't just fix those things in a day. That ongoing discussion of potentially shutting down for a bit is entirely made because of such problems.

Do you think it's appropriate and a good idea to shut down the server for a remainder amount of time so these issues can be fixed in a correct manner?

I'll put my two cents here as I kinda lost the active interest to this community thanks to the exams and other stuff.

Honestly, from all what I see here, I come to the conclusion that Willard is kinda turning into Nebulous 2.0 with all these situations going out, where player orientated decisions are punished by the elitaristic Game Masters and Staff, where the Civil Protection are forced to act like robots most of the time that promote hate over the Union in all the cases, be it IC or OOC. Then we get Faction Lead of the "Face of the Community" faction, the MPF, that goes with the bias over quality, going with the overzealous attitude (AKA "Happy hunting"), the staff members that promote hoax and lies about the players without the solid evidence (I'm being the victim of such) and going with the abuse because of the "good intentions" and Game Master team that first create, excuse me for the harshness, stupid reason for the mapchange, that could've been ICly dealt with without turning City 24 into a Quarantine Zone. This is no Entropy Zero kind of virus, it's just Xenian stuff that can be burnt or contained with the proper aid. The whole infestation could help the Citizen RP with the proper control, but "hurr durr, we need a whatever reason for the map change because v3 is more important than living a few months on the existing map that turns out to be not suitable for the server".

With all due respect, I felt turned off by those talks of what happened on the first two days and acts of Community Managers that, well it seems, can't hold the thing. One faction lead can't be put away because Atle personally believes in "he'll get better" approach, or that Toe Infection scenario after the situation being proven to be shite for a good while and having people still complain about cops killing any kind of roleplay. People even had the thread, set up by one Community Manager, with the rules of not locking it "because faction lead decided to" or "we'll fix the issue". I was laughing out loud when the irony hit, when other Community Manager decides to silence the thread, instead of letting people continue the discussion and share their opinions.

I really fear that this community is trying it best to turn into an RPG version of Nebulous Cloud, since the original Nebulous is dying for some reason, while all we have here - promoting script grinding with out "innovating system" that was overhyped as "remedy for HL2RP". But one guy here once said, that it is HL2RP, not HL2RPG. If I wanted to play the RPG of HL2RP, I would rather go to Dark RP variant (God forbid) and do that shit there, like in Retrime or Union Roleplay (these fucking Russian servers), rather in the gamemode, which was promoting the character development and creation.

Do you think it's appropriate and a good idea to shut down the server for a remainder amount of time so these issues can be fixed in a correct manner?
My personal take is...well, probably yes.

Mostly because some of the problems that we need to fix are fairly large. Not to mention the problems present really are hampering the experience that could otherwise be really positive where they not there.

So my personal take, is yes. Do I think not doing so is a deathblow? Well, no. But I don't see it as the right move.

My dude, we literally have a staff confession stating how it went down (On the actual forums here of all places too.) and how those influences caused issues. This is the thing; I don't even think you realized how that influenced the entire situation in that.

Do some actual work and investigate what happened with Daniel yourself. It's not my job to inform you about shit you're supposed to already know. (This isn't me withholding information, I've already squared such info away with the team and seen actual investigations turn up actual corruption.) This thread's entire point is to tell you guys about how shit got from point A to point B. If you literally can't handle the fact of these being the reasons why people got pissed/lost interest/etc.

Tough times ahead.

It's all straws into a heap RedHotGinger. It all amounts and people do not forget, especially if it continues. You could shine gold out your ass finally after finally getting atop of the 99th repeated same-case incident and people will still have a right to bitch and moan because it even got to that 99th case.

As for "Can't fix these issues without time." - No, that's outright wrong. What are you gonna' do? Shut down the server when someone picks their nose next time? 90% of the issues associated in the server are very VERY fast solvable issues where you can straight up slap a Band-Aid on the issue and work towards a larger improvement on that bandage over time. There was a great clamouring to fix many of these issues on day 3 but certain people were being effectively held back from doing so.

The fact I could walk into a admin meeting and ask what people thought about a very important must know subject on a specific matter and everyone involved had literally no clue about said thing was a real eye opener on day 2 only to cause them to scramble like fuck and go "OH SHIT WTF?" after I showed it to them.

Your issue isnt that you guys need to take time to solve issues, your issue is that you guys are slow as fuck to solve a issue and often don't even see the guy who's been coughing really loudly with a axe above your head for the past year is the essence of the problem. You litterally don't even attempt to move out of the way, you litterally sit there waiting for a axe blow to your head metaphorically.

Take the business system, you dont need to change a map in order to fix that mess.
Take the CP issue's on day 1, you didnt need 3 weeks to fix that mess.
Take the CCA issues, you didnt need weeks to solve those messes.
Take the abuse issues, you didnt need players screaming at you on the forums to fix that mess.
Take lack of events, you didnt need players telling you the lack of quality was a issue.

Then atop of that, you have people trying to give insight into why they stopped playing and trying to give you guys literal information on why they had issues- Like this guy!

THE CP LEAD HIMSELF LOL

This thread has really given us all an insight to the community issues, vast majority are very true and something we desperately need to fix. As we've made the tough decision to pause this server, giving everyone a breather and time for us to address and fix these issues; I have decided to lock this thread, we definitely have our fair-share of collected issues here, and in the CCC sections; thank you.

LOCKED.

:approve:

After some discussion with the other CMs; we have come to the decision to re-open this thread for further discussion regarding this matter. Please make sure you're acting civil throughout this thread.

UNLOCKED

Despite spending little time in the rebel system, I can say I've been there for the recent crucial events and spoken to a majority of the rebel population and civilian for that matter OOCly and ICly, so I consider myself alright to speak on this topic.

There's a clear disconnect between the resistance and the staff team, all encompassing, including the GMs and the Moderation team.

The Problems Between Rebels and Admins/Elements in the Server From Inside Perspective
  1. GMs take time to set up events, behind the scenes. What they fail to realize is whilst they are drawing attention away from the server and towards their well constructed events, many things are taking place within IC. The resistance are collecting supplies, constantly shifting their plans, and in some cases even with admins. When they finally attempt to put something towards all the work they have built up, they are stopped by some random GM event. The most recent example is the GMs closing off the entire sewers and quite literately saying "Fuck You" to the underground community, all while the Rebels were coordinating a massive evacuation from within the sewers and constantly gathering up materials to ensure their safety. They work for weeks, they have too because...
  2. The RPG elements are broken. It takes too long to level up and gather equipment, and the method of grinding is so fucking tedious. What you are going to encourage by remaining to keep it like this is script-grinding which is both detrimental to IC and OOC. Why you ask? Well, when it takes a person weeks to grind, set up IC connections, and gather up their skills to make even a dent in the rebel community, when you put in that type of time, you become subconsciously or consciously protective of the things you've worked towards. This will affect how your character may act, will cause drama and separation between those who have it all and those who have very little. Which brings us to our third problem...
  3. The admins recently inflated the rebel community with items, yet not through events, by a literal "friendly NPC" who handed them shit on a platter. The drama that ensued from this was clear. The admins supplied the "Dutchy of Styx" group with extra supplies and left those who were constantly grinding in the dirt. To them they were most likely providing the rebels with valuable supplies, but what they did in reality is only thicken the line between rich and poor.

The Solutions
  1. GMs pay attention to the IC environment and carefully center their events around what the players intend for. For example, if the players set up multiple weeks planning to escape to the Canals, you set up events that could help guide them towards that goal. That is not to say that their plans will always go.. according to plan, but the mentality of making Rebel life a living hell is only going to encourage your playerbase to drop further. I don't mean to alarm anyone, but I've personally spoken to many people and found that 60% people in active rebels in the Rebel community already say that they'd leave the server if they found somewhere else to play.
  2. Fix the RPG elements. It's that simple. Make it easier to level up, specialize in a specific skill upon character creation (why does my Civic Engineer who went to Harvard not know how to break down a keyboard), and to get equipment. This will naturally break the strain between the Overwatch and Rebel communities as they enter equal fighting ground.
  3. 7766c0852643a6297adb460b89b4036c.jpg
Do not bring in a shitty Mafia boss to give rebel characters free items. You should give materials or items out in events, with the players managing to find them or loot them from bodies. Having a Resident Evil merchant appear to them and magically whisk items into their hands is the reason why people commonly call rebels "special snowflakes".
The Duchy didn't receive free items aside from occasionally a guy bringing down food, I'm just a loser who had a long Christmas break and sat up late at night grinding trash nodes. I literally brought in like 90% of the materials they had before they got nuked by an admin event (They really weren't biased for the Styx) the staff were just trying to give engagement to the literal largest rebel group we had like 18 members.

Here's my take on the matter.

-The TBC system is just not that good, it's a neat idea, and I like it, but it has caused more problems than it has solved.
-The crafting Grind is horrible and doesn't make any sense. I can create a 357 magnum revolver out of garbage at level 15, but I need to double my levels to make the ammo, and the ammo is so freaking expensive it might as well be unobtainium.
-Events punish players for participation by giving them temporary small rewards and stripping them away as instantly as they're obtained. We had a job given to us by an admin that was low profile, low risk, just for fun, and the Duchy got literally nuked out of existence for doing it by a squad of Combine soldiers the staff were well aware they wouldn't be able to have even a remotely fair fight against, and then an IC bomb was placed on the house, removing all of the remaining equipment the Duchy would have had and NLRing most of the members. Do I even need to explain to you why a bunch of people who mained rebels in that subfaction quit the server?
-The staff are either very toxic or they don't have the balls to make a simple call in favor of continuing rp. We sat in a base raid admin sit for like 2 OOC hours debating the fairness of the raid when an admin should have made a call within like 10 minutes maximum. At other times like when the duchy got nuked @Dazor didn't listen to anything the players said or let them come to any compromise, he completely wiped out the inventories and skills of like 5 rebels because they were waiting for someone who went AFK to return before going on to an event, and they "got caught in the blast."
-The Civil Protection faction a joke like everyone has been saying, they just suck, and I was immediately disincentivized from playing because they reintroduced a rank system, and the cool thing about the server until that point was that we were all equal and only beholden to dispatch and RLs.( They also don't train new civil protection players and rely too heavily on radio codes to determine if you're good, no wonder it sucks ass.)
-OTA are too overused and it would just be better if the players who spend all their time standing in one spot on their OTA characters would just play as civil protection. OTA should be rare, not used every 20 minutes 6 times a day.
