Counter Strike Global Offensive props are used incredibly frequently to make a lack of having the game mounted pretty detrimental. The legacy branch of the game is a whole twenty six gigabytes on top of the thirty-or-so you need for Counter Strike 2, which makes it a pain to have installed, finally even if you get the game installed there's a long-standing bug that some users experience where mounting the game bricks Garry's Mod.

I know for a fact that this has been brought up before, there's a post two or so spaces down from this explaining the same issue. This is new-player deterrent. Nobody wants to download twenty gigs of slop only to load into the server and see 50 errors taking up the streets.

There are some remedial things that the admins and or developers could do to fix this; You could replace the CS:GO props with L4D2 ones which have the same style and come from a game that is currently smaller and more accessible compared to CS:GO, You could also create a palette of props to select from average usage and isolate them and then upload a pack of them to steam, Or you could totally remove these assets from the server altogether.

Before anyone says "Isn't it illegal to have these assets on steam, its the users' responsibility to have them installed!", I would say the vast majority of C24 is comprised of assets from L4D2, CSGO and Black Mesa, their assets have been up on the workshop for years without being taken down once.

All I gotta say is if they do use them, please don’t use them in areas where the player is expected to platform, for obvious reasons.

I will speak with the CT Coords about this as they do have a major say in propping. While I can confirm CSGO props most likely aren't going anywhere anytime soon, there will either be a small collection of the common csgo props made as it does not violate Steam Workshop TOS.

The part about using valve assets ONLY APPILIES to paid games. CSGO is free and thus does not fall under Valves rules against putting game content on the workshop.

What I can see us doing is using mainly CSS and HL2 props in most areas, maybe mount L4D2 for some additional as most if not all have that, even if they only brought the first game prior to a certain point. Though overall I think we are aiming to cut down on Client Props and detail in general as some have pointed out the strain their systems undergo from the sheer detail used in some zones.

You'd think that after all these years they would have extracted the assets they needed from the CS content and uploaded that as the required addon. I miss the times the content collection consisted of like 7 addons that neatly packed everything needed.

They did, and they got taken down.

Good arguement, but CS:GO props are simply just good.

You could probably find a compromise and make content creators create new custom props for the server but I'm sure they'd rather kill themselves than do that.

Hey there, we’ve had some discussion regarding this topic. Currently, we’ve reached a middle ground that should hopefully satisfy all parties. Here are the steps we are taking. We’re looking into isolating CSGO assets to reupload to minimize addon size whilst maintaining a majority of the props used. This should help with new player retention, and make GMOD less of a weight on your HDD or SSD.

I hope this helps.
