Lack of African cities(?)

They need to retcon the New Dark Continent, I think there could've been alot of good misc lore/cities there, Africa is an incredibly large continent and the fact it only has like two-or-three cities doesn't make sense. Europe is too bloated for more flavor text and some of the stuff there (Monolith, ext.) hasn't even been followed up on in nearly a year. It's just a waste and knocked out vast amounts of possible world-building.

It's nearly the /entire/ continent, and even without it there's still only really two cities on the mainland, it's just a waste.

There likely won't be any major changes for the world map until V3.

Hopefully, it'll avoid the heavily Eurocentric position V2 has (there are literally more Combine cities in Europe than the rest of the world combined).

There's lack of everything in Asia and every-other continent than Europe, I can understand America since it got wiped out by Xen but I don't see why they can't establish more cities in South America, or even Africa if they reclaim it from Xen like North America. They wiped out large amount of ground with Xen which was completely pointless.

Also, there's somehow 72 cities and yet half of them aren't even on the map.

Well I think at least for the position of Africa we got to look at what it then was like. If you look on google maps you can see half of Africa is desert, and even outside of that there are not a ton of major population centers. But then if you in North America, Europe, or Asia they got a lot of cities. So why would the combine make a bunch of cities out of nothing in the desert?

Cuz people who wrote this stuff were from Europe. Shrimple. We're also half a year (or less) away from HL2 and thus V2's end, so there's no point in setting up new cities.

Also in South America, not as much as in Africa, the conditions are not good for major building. Remember, the combine corrals who it can and kills of the rest, so why would it make stuff in and area where almost half of it is rainforest.

The Combine repurpose already existing places as urban centers. If Europe had enough intact ones for a setup of 30 Combine Cities, other continents should definitely have more than 3.

Half of Africa is most definitely not desert, this type of misconception is probably why Africa had no cities in the first place.

???
There's still major cities everywhere in Africa and there's way more then /two/ that could be made into actual population centres. They built a Citadel on an island off of the coast of the Western Sahara, it doesn't make sense for it to be so sparse in a continent that's x10 bigger than Europe.

Also, Google Earth isn't an indicator of where a large city is -- everywhere on Earth has large pockets of drylands.

Hello,

V3 will feature cities in Africa, in addition to various biomes. Not much I can share at this time, but there is things in the work, for the continent!

Will we visit Africa in any of the new cities? Or is it just going to be eurocentric like V1-V2.
There's this very good map called LePoint on the workshop and I think it'd fit wonderfully for a fresh coat of paint.

Outside of mega-events? Probably not, if ever.

Outside of expeditions? Never.

Could I ask why?
We've visited City 8 in Japan and plenty other maps as we've cycled through them, I think City 24 has gotten a little stale, we've been there three times already.
I just think it's waste of a continent that could provide some really good, interesting roleplay; more then Europe.

9/10, map limitations. Africa's lore was written before LePointe was released; back then, there weren't any maps to warrant visiting, much less staying, outside of brief visits, which were only ever suited for expeditionary-based events and never intended for long-term HL2RP-based city RP. It's hard to find a map that is usable, accommodating, and enjoyable to play on for all players and factions. Very few maps meet these criteria, and fewer in Africa proper. (And by Africa, I mean demonstrably Africa; not just a random city map supposedly taking place in Africa)

This is why I wanted to switch to lepointe when V3 releases to stop the eurocentric cycle of maps, I can say for certain, I'm sick of City 24 and I want something with new leaders, new ministers and new politics.
A map like lepointe was /made/ for text only HL2RP, I'm pretty sure the server they were originally going to release it on (or released) was a HL2RPG server, it factors in the players and factions fine aswell as being 'demonstrably' africa enough.

I just think it's a waste if we never ever get to see such a huge continent and continue to cycle through the same European maps over and over and over again.

Idk if anyone agrees with me but this lepointe map (if I've got the right one) looks pretty terrible and would probably kill the server. The Euro/Japan-centric structure works, because most players are from European/Anglosphere countries and can identify/understand the culture better. A city based anywhere else, would be disastrous for playercount and player interest.

You can't just write off three continents worth of content because the main server is too comfortable in Europe and North America, this is a wasteful mindset and it encourages not pushing players out of their boundaries,
if we keep doing the same thing over and over and over again, it'll be more stagnant then us testing out a map and getting some good roleplay in return.

I don't think there's more then five Japanese Willard players and yet we still relocated to City Eight, and it was still better then Terminal/City 24.
