General History

Michael was born in Derby in the United Kingdom to perhaps the two most boring parents one could have, average joes that worked their 9 to 5 jobs, went home, ate dinner and so on and so forth. Something that lead to a rather normal and fine enough childhood. An under achiever in his primary school, not that it would matter in the end as he was only a rough eight years old when those down in Black Mesa threw the world into a dark, miserable fate with their curiosities, prompting a terrifying time for one barely into childhood.

With the portal storms causing an immense fear in all those around him, he found little solace in his parents to be the voices of reason and calm as they too were struck with fear of the horrifying new world that was slowly growing before their eyes. The next weeks being spent moving down to the capital in some vain hope of safety, one that wouldn't last when the Combine invaded a few years down the line. During the rapid and violent skirmish Michael would lose sight of his parents as buildings collapsed into rubble into dust, leaving the 11 year old lost, alone and petrified. With a throat raw from screaming for his loved ones, and nothing else to do beyond that he had collapsed to his knees and cried, eventually crawling and curling up in the corner of one of the now dilapidated buildings close at hand while gunshots, explosions and death happened mere streets away.

Fortune would favor the poor soul, however. As his weeping was heard a short while later by an elderly man who was seeking shelter from the chaos, discovering the young man and immediately taking pity on him. Eventually convincing Michael to come with him to safety. Luckily for the pair the so called "war" would only last a few hours more, allowing them to try and find some measure of peace afterwards, if one could call it that.

The elderly man introduced himself to the child as Masao, listening to Michael's story and allowing him to vent his emotions in a safer manner, the elderly Japanese man decided to take the young one under his wing for safety.

The next few years were spent in a relative quiet, Masao taking on a fatherly role, alongside a teaching one. The pair bonding closely as they survived the average mans apocalypse, up until they found themselves in City Two after Michael reached adulthood. A place where the pair would reside for a short while until the uprisings began, requesting transfer to City Thirty One not long after.

Masao's fate was not to die naturally, as during an incident with Xenian entities a Headcrab had found its way between the pair. And with no help in sight the frail, older man tried to fight the monster off as it struggled to find its place atop his dome, ultimately succumbing as Michael had frozen in response. Watching his father figure, his mentor, and his best friend become another shambling corpse amidst the many in the world. Traumatizing the young adult and prompting nightmares for years to come, accompanied by a deep regret and guilt.

Which leads us to today, Michael has found his home in the slums of Industrial Twenty Four, trying to place his past behind him and rebuild a new life. A life where he's just a nobody trying to help those he can, to hopefully make up for his own failings. A mixed bag, so far. But he surely has much more to go, so many to help, and so much to do...

A long road walked...

How far we've come...from running those slums and sewers, to becoming a respectable doctor and even falling in love like the hopeless fool he was. A long way from Industrial Twenty Four, no longer the faceless nobody he once was. Something that weighs heavily on his entire being. Chasing serial killers, becoming stranded in a valley and nearly meeting the good lady Death, becoming a pawn in someone's political game while residing in Japan and being framed for things he didn't do. So many odd relationships, so many ropes walked for so little...just that spark of a better life, something that might not even be there. Yet here he stands in the frozen hellscape of Vladivostok. Same old faces just with new games. New challenges...and many, many new fears.

Addendum...

More and more you step forwards Michael, how hardened your heart is. All to be yet another pawn in a political game, that's what it is isn't it? That's what that 'gift' was? We can only wait and see. Almost coming full circle, returning to the city that so many you know found their start. If only they could see you now...would they be proud? Or ashamed?

Mike's Relationships

Wai Akoni
"Miss Wai...would you even recognize me after all this time? The hopeful English face you helped when I first arrived, beaten and abused into a broken visage of hopelessness. At least you're not here to suffer what we're suffering. Just stay safe- wherever you are. One day we'll meet again."

"I saw you and you were gone once more. Moved on...are you proud? Or are you upset? It seems like you were upset. I'm sorry. I'm not who I used to be, Wai."

Keim Rider
"I needed you...I needed my best friend. The one that had my back. That kept me cool headed with his own level head. Yet you're gone. And now that innocence you wanted to preserve is gone, shattered and down the drain. Replaced with melancholy and paranoia. I hope wherever you are you're fine. But god- I don't know what I'll do when I see you again. If you'll even realize who I am now."

Stephanie Roberts
"These days...one of my closer friends. Though- I can't help but wonder if you feel it too. That our little "family" is falling apart. Which...if you do...I don't blame you for being distant, alongside your other issues. But you and the others- as I said...family. We need to try and help each other. Please. Let me in- tell me your thoughts."

"What's going on, Steph? Are you hearing them too? Is it this Farmouth...? I only heard bits, but fuck does it make me worry. Don't listen, don't acknowledge them. You won't be as lucky as me."

"It gets worse and worse for you, lets hope the barrel of a gun isn't the end of it."

"Hey there Director, quite the promotion. You're as cold as and hardy as ever but I guess the stresses of the job and the stresses of the mind don't help. I appreciate you being one solid for us all. Just wish I could do more."

Emiyo Marcum
"My senior, my teacher, the one that dragged me into a world of abuse and hatred. Though...I guess that's my own fault. And finally- the woman I grew to love one way or another...why can I not do any good by you? I do as you ask and yet the world targets me still- that's my fault? It's my fault that criminals, corrupted pricks and more attack and target me? Force me into unwinnable situations?"

"Why can't I ever get a compliment from you? Instead of a lecture? It hurts. You hurt."

"You feel closer than ever, your entire being is a calming presence save for when you're in danger. Thank you...thank you for bettering my life and bringing that spark of hope. You mean more than most now...even though I can't replace lost emotions.

"You're an idiot, Em. But I think you realize that sometimes, especially with your last little escapade. Just unfortunate you had to rip out my heart as you did, eh? Maybe this next stint is yours- or our- last hurrah. Seems they do love putting us in politics to fuck us over. Just keep your head straight, you at least still have a friend in me, fool that I am. You're not getting anything else again."

We've come this far, haven't we? And you're giving me more kindness than I'm worth these days...thanks. I don't regret crawling out of the hole when I heard what happened to you, I can only wish I was there for real. But now...we have our chance.

Eleanor Marchand
"...probably the closest thing I have to a best friend these days. Elly...thank you. Truly. But- I worry about you. You focus on others, yet ignore yourself. There's things bubbling beneath that marred surface of yours. We're all in this together. So we should work together, yeah?"

"You feel the closest thing to a best friend these days, Elly. I couldn't imagine anyone else by my side. Which means I worry for you more than ever, we're still in this you and me."

"Lucky you, come so far. Maybe you've finally found what you want, just hope you and him can get through this without everything going wrong."

"You've ripped away all that held you dear, and for what? You get a professional kindness and that's it from me. You've made your choices, you've abandoned someone that cared for you with their whole soul and then some for...next to no reason. You drove a knife through your "sisters" back straight through her heart. When you find the afterlife...I hope you aren't in the same one as us.

'Celt'
"My friends "doppelganger". And a strange woman- you some sort of slummer? Something else? I don't know, don't really care if you leave me alone. The slums are my second home- people like you are. Wish I could return home one day, but with everything as it is...yeah. One hell of a dream."

"A good woman for the world she lived in. Crazy and I respected that. Carry some of that with me these days...if only you were still around. You could fix plenty of these issues but I guess it's up to me now...rest well, Celt. You've fought your fight and have earned it."

'Teller of Tales'
"A friend long missing, assumed dead. Yet perfectly fine. A relief on my...everything. I missed you, missed your wisdom. I just wish it was easier to see you- with so many eyes on my back from all walks of life I can barely breathe without someone telling another. But...I missed you. I'm so happy you're safe. And I hope you remain so."

Uwe Schulz
"A drunken, pitiable fool...you have problems. And yet sometimes you lash out at those trying to help. You pushed me to my limit of caring. Let others help you. Just don't end up a drunken corpse. I don't want to have to drag you to the morgue, or do the autopsy."

"...well. We made up, sort of. And then you were dying...I was watching you wither away unable to do anything but stab you with a needle that probably didn't do anything. Then you wanted to keep withering...thanks for taking their offer. I still don't know if I can look you in the face."

"Quite the development of your own, Uwe. Will you be able to stick with this one, friend? I hope you took my words to heart. Or have a hardy stomach...I hope you see her again soon wherever she is."

'Tzu'
"Another great friend. A calming presence. Your intelligence is much appreciated- as well as your medical experience. I'm glad you can help us more now- you're worth ten people sometimes. But I just...hope you can take care of the others. I'll tough my own issues out- hopefully. They need the help."

'Cangh'
"Yet another good friend- wonder if it says something about me that some of my greatest friends are aliens...but you're a funny person, yet a deeply troubled one. I wish I could help- are things really that bad? I'd try to get you to meet them but...well- we saw how my last suggestion went, argument wise."

Chloe Lepelletier
"The 'El-Tee' as I called you. Though I guess I can't use that nickname now Captain. An actually good person in that mixed bag called the CCR. You've helped me greatly. And done right keeping certain people safe. You're...I..."

"Nevermind. Thank you, Chloe. If I can do anything for you- please find me. Always here."

"...I don't know what's wrong with you, I've never seen you snap like that. Are you alright? Well- maybe not with everything that happened. Just...come to me. I'll help. I owe you that much."

"We made progress. And now you're gone. I don't know if you're alive, I don't know if you're dead...just that your replacement is already here. You were instrumental in keeping my life together, I owe you so much. Please- please keep safe out there. Somehow, somewhere I will find you again. And thank you- the way I should have before. I'll miss you."

Noah Majors
"You...you're a fucking parasite. A scum sucking piece of shit. Goading and taunting me, fuck you. You're a coward that's sucking down the shaft of whatever political figure gives you their thanks, or power. I'd knock you out myself if I could, yet all I can do is stand and watch and pray for your downfall. Or a knife in your back."

"That knife is still coming, Majors. Not by my hand. I hope the political game swallows you up "coworker" of mine."

"I'm- I don't...get you. Was this you all along? Was it a mask? Are you like me? Why is life just question after fucking question these days?"

"Dead. Dead, gone and rotting. Even after you fucked me over bringing up shit I said to you in private, trusted you with. But we talked about this, you knew this was the ending that was set for you. I had only hoped you could have been better before going. Rest...I don't know. Just rest."

Yann Stephan
"What a weird friendship we started, huh? Fighting for your freedom- only for me to get a boot to the face. Nose still hurts from that...only for us to re-encounter each other in the middle of bloody nowhere. You're a damn fine doctor, and you have nothing but my greatest respect. Thank you, Yann."

Jenifer Maesroe
"I...don't know much about you- but you've helped a lot. At least I hope you have- ignoring things like typical MoP work and help with the clinic you've saved my life once or twice- but with that shitfest and the trial...I don't know if your hands were tied for your own safety, or by others will. I can only hope you did what's best for all of us. But much like Walker- you need to take care of yourself. Stubborn..."

"Did you? Did you fuck us in the political game for your own enjoyment? Why?"

"Turned out decent when it came to it, thanks Jenifer. Some modicum of respect for you these days. Just hope you don't flip-flop like some other people in the "game", mh?"

Idris 'The Rastaman'
"Someone else in the political game it seems, yet all the times we've interacted and worked together you've seemed...good. Sorry if I don't trust you- but after everything trust is a sparse resource these days. I can only hope you're as good as you seem to be on the outside- and from what others have said."

Ted Kowacks
"Former senior doctor, and damn good friend. Even when I tried to punch you, you could've taken me out yet you just restrained me. Thanks Teddy, you're a great boost to everyone's mood and a damn good friend to boot. We're going to need all hands on deck for our future. Hope you stay on said deck."

William Stoner
"Friendly guy, ever since I-24. I won't forget that tense hideout in the back of that store- but I'm sure you've forgotten. You much like others have come so far. And you get to express yourself doing so. I'm sorry I can't trust you more- but you do work with Majors."

"An old friend, a good friend...put down like a rabid dog. I saw your body, carried it where I could and I'm sorry. You were a decent person for a librarian and an author turned politician. But you've moved on away from the carcass. Hope you're enjoying yourself wherever you ended up William. I'll miss our talks."

Jon Monir
"Worker with the clinic, been waiting a damn long time...not sure- you seem alright considering. I just hope you don't make any dumb decisions. You could use more practice, too."

"Nice to meet you for the first time again, even if it was different faces and circumstances..."

Ashley Valera
"Yeah...you've been a huge help. But I know you don't like me, don't appreciate you volunteering me to go on a shift where I nearly got fucking shot but...I suppose it can be ignored for the good you've done, hopefully you're safe wherever it is you've gone now."

'Nullwick'
"I don't know who you are, I certainly don't trust you. You creep me out, just...leave me alone."

Watima Nakata
"You- you're like a brother to me, man. But like brothers you can also piss me off yeah? I'll have your back. But you also thankfully realize I have my reasons to be the way I am, sorry for the shit way I've treated you before- but it ain't easy with this head of mine twisting itself about every which way."

"And like that...for every smart idea you have you get a few equally as stupid ones, man. Just stay safe. Please. You got a few reasons to do so now, so don't be a jackass man. I mean it. Fuckin' worried sick sometimes..."

"Gone...seems to be the good ones that disappear. O' brother of mine I hope that where you are you're happy, alive or dead. It's a shame you never got to see my growth. But I'll keep on going. I'm sorry you never got to learn the truth, either...but it may have been better that way."

'Abaddon'
"Big, strange and weird. A mutual respect between the both of us it seems, wouldn't say we're friends but...we understand things. I appreciate you for looking out for my people- well...mostly. And thank you for allowing me to assist Gen when she needed it. Just...keep that temper in control, for everyone's sake. Not just yours."

"Dead before I could get your help, shame. Look what I've devolved into. A barbarian. A butcher. A freak."

Thanks

It's my turn to say I put in a "final"-ish update, doubt I'll put anything else but we'll see how it goes I suppose. Sorry it's a simple revamp.

Michael was my first character I made on Willard and I doubt I can top his story again, so thanks to all of you for making it so memorable. From the players to the Event Team and beyond.
