Nominate your favourite characters!

What a very positive thread. Love this sort of stuff.

It's very difficult for me to name my favorites, as there's a lot of Willard characters I actually really like. But, if I had to, I'd say these four are in my top, both for their concept and execution by the wonderful players controlling them:

LINE-3 @Lost Coast Chanties
Probably one of the most intriguing and fun cops I've interacted with, even now. It was always fun bouncing off this guy and getting into petty (and major) squabbles. I miss them quite a bit.

Emiyo Marcum @RedHotGinger
A profoundly deep and lovable character. There's a certain level of 'quaintness' and elegance this character protrudes that can only be tastefully done by RedHot, and the few interactions I've shared with them are still very memorable.

Bernard Mulligan @Furious
Though somewhat of a meme, Furious is capable of really baring his writing and roleplaying capabilities when tested. Legitimately, when he's being serious, he is usually playing the most interesting character in the room.

Kraas'Etan @Raptorian
I'm a little biased, but I have shared far too many hours of narrative interest and captivation with this character. One of the hardest parts of roleplay for people, including myself at times, is depicting a character that is nothing like yourself, and still making them believable/interesting. Kraas is nothing like Raptorian, and he manages to make the Vortigaunt's personality entirely unique, entrancing, and a joy to interact with.

These are just a few I can name at the top of my head, but there really are way, way more I wish I could mention. These players, and plenty similar to them, are what inspire me to continue pursuing and improving my storytelling.

Might be a few days late to this but my nominations would be!

1. Ophélie Eulalie Latourelle (@RileyTheRoomba): A character who I think best fits the bill for a believable person you'd find under Combine occupation, but also a character with a lot of depth and unique quirks when you get to know her. Whether she's gifting you fresh pancakes or philosophising about whether its better to live under the oppression of the Combine or risky freedom of the Resistance, Ophelie is a dynamic character you can always turn to for some of the best interactions I've seen on the HL2RP scene. If you're reading this Riley, thanks for the nomination to Nik! He will return, some day.

2. Felix Poelking (@FelixPius): Probably one of the most tragic characters I've encountered in a long while, Felix was a man I legitimately felt bad for due to how circumstance screwed him over. The way he reacted to everything around him was what you'd expect from a man with a million problems weighing on his shoulders, and still ultimately wanting to do good. Nik will remember you, Felix.

3. David Andrew "York" Mcallen (@Zebra): Joining your character along for the ride was nuts, especially with how everything you did was in reason. Nobody's perfect and I think Dave encapsulates that really, really well; he, like anyone else, has people he deeply cared for while still wanting the best of humanity by fighting against the Combine. I was genuinely caught off guard when Dave offered Nik a spot in his group because of how Nik wasn't afraid to speak his voice. Good on you, Zebra

4. William Brown (@Deagantio): Being one of Nik's closest friends (among many, might I add), William is a character I definitely need to mention. Witty, goofy, but able to become genuinely serious and focused at the drop of a hat without making such a change in character apparent, William was definitely everything I aspired Nik to be: calculating and able to turn any situation to his favor. That's the impression I got anyway, and I hope William's doing well. William, Lukas and Nik will always be the best trio of buds thanks to you, Deag.

5. Jason Mayhew (@alessiodoomboy): I wanted to dedicate this last section to a character from one of the Short Stories events, specifically the first season of Our Mutual Destruction, and out of the many amazing characters part of the refugees I led, Jason was a character I felt deserved the nomination. Having met him during the start of the second session with the rest of the remaining refugees I led with my first mate, Everett Armstrong, Jason started off as a nervous, timid man with a shotgun who wanted to survive no differently than anyone else, yet as the sessions went on he really came into his own element.

Jason became more confident, more part of the group, more ready and eager to help out, he even began emulating my character, Captain Nakamori, in how he dressed due to looking up to the captain. When Nakamori unfortunately passed away, Jason fell into a depressive slump for the following session before undergoing an amazing character arc by the end of it with Everett's help, coming out more confident and certain of the future. I've always loved interacting with you as Fleur, Alessio, but you truly killed it as Jason.

And those are my nominations! This list was really, really hard to make as there are so many other characters I would have added if I wasn't just confined to five spots. Jennifer Maesroe, Ilya Zima, Elias Siemens, Lucy Russel, Heilag Vagga, and Emiyo Marcum just to name a few (CMU gang, let's goooo)! To anyone that's interacted with me, you all have amazing characters in your own right and I've had a blast with the moments I've made with you all. I hope that feeling is mutual about my characters! Good luck to everyone else and congrats in advance to the winners!

Self nomination because I like to reminisce.

"Marat"

Probably the best character I played on Willard and the most fun I had. Started off as a rebel in the C24 slums leading the "Socialist Revolutionary Front" and handing out newspapers. Tried leading the January 16th rebellion or w/e it was called and immediately got curbed into the ground by OTA. Shelfed the character after that until I17 a few months later. Came together with some friends and made the "Hungover Houndeye" - an underground rave spot in the trash collection warehouse. Spread around "Kill your Foreman" propaganda, killed some Foremen/CCA characters, and vibed with all those low and high. Hated some people and then caused another riot when the Houndeye got killed during a rave. If I had a nickle for every riot...

Anyways, probably the most pure fun on willard.

Artemis - forgotten his OOC name but he ran an underground BMD syndicate. Managed to create dilemmas against citizens who had conflict of interests where they were for both combine and the resistance due to neutrality, while creating jobs for ordinary slum dwellers and creating logistics for trade. Roleplay with them was highly cinematic while managing transfers of items and quests in an authentic way. Generally felt like a war industry dude who would have a group of anonymous guards while passing over a suitcase of weapons to Joe Rebel.
Shame that he got killed for trying to kill the single greatest mind in the world (Union-33)

With the re-opening of WN and the epilogue of Until Next, why not share some more? Nominate characters you’ve interacted with and keep it up!

Will update my own nominations in the coming days. Feel free to shine some spotlight on both new and old characters, even if you’ve posted a thread previously!

Kraas'Etan the Krah Aur Nur Elder.
Wonderful character made even better with Until The Next

Also SCOOK!!!

These three names haven't been posted yet, so it must be recorded for WN history!

- JUDGE-0 @Taliazure: The Legendary Choice. Most people make 2D CPs. Not Tali. A CP that is both brainwashed and has a complex understanding of human emotions and how to use that knowledge to better control the citizenry is more dynamic and scary than someone RP'ing as another Combine goon. Truly one of the most lore-friendly ways I have seen someone take CP superiority to next level. JUDGE-0 was the SS Colonel Hans Landa of our time. ALL PAY HEED. RIP, and one of the greats. Proof that creativity in this 20 year-old game isn't dead (holy shit it's been 20 years since HL2 was released why do I feel so old luv u Tali).

- Warren Goodwin @NitroSky: The People's Choice. He's somehow survived 2 to 3 map changes and managed not to get liquidated, amputated, or off-world deported during his borderline slavery in the CWU as a bottom of the barrel worker for most of his live. This character shows that it's actually possible to put so much time and effort into a passive, slow burning grind of WN RP, and have it actually pay off when he came out on top with that character now in the CCA. Proof that, as Todd Howard says, "it just works."

- Rook @Cocohop: The Rebel's Choice.
If Tali made one of the most complex CPs I've seen, then Coco made one of the most complex Rebels. He's not motivated by criminal actions, or toppling the Combine, or "La Resistance," or any other bland and overused reason that most of us motivate Rebel story arcs. He believes in freeing the souls of the CP humans trapped in their brainwashed state through a graceful death that releases their caged spirits into Heaven, that have been trapped and imprisoned by the Union they serve. A truly deep character for a video game. A Righteous Rebel. Proof that all Dogs go to Heaven.

Objectively the only choice is Kraas'Etan. Whoever disagrees may contact my lawyer @Memesky

PS: I despise Anime, but I had to break my hatred out of love for JUDGE-0.
