After getting into an argument with a local CAB member about opining up rations and how upset my character was that he had opened up rations just for him and nobody else before shutting them back down, a fight broke out. The CAB member in question drew out a very long /me which gave plenty of time for OTA buddies in discord to run over to me and merk me before I could finish my /me because not only does timescale not exist but allowing people to do /mes doesn't either. So my RP was just ignored and I get rekt. Fine, whatever. I call a staff member and start engaging in a one on one with them but before I can even get help about that situation, this happens.

OTA need to chill the fuck out. Even worse than CPs, they have been decking people left in right mid RP and just being an overzealous cancer to an already shitty state of RP.

OTA in question are [Staff are aware, please do not leak OTA taglines] that is entirely private.

Nothing, and it's why S2K is a superior form of conflict resolution than any S2RP or TBC bullshit.
Ah, yes, because your character's ability to kill is purely based on your location in relation to the server's and your CS:GO skills, and not like... your character's ability to shoot or the weapon he has. Oh, and lets not forget the amount of injuries actually RP'ed during S2K: none. Yes, clearly a superior form of combat for RP where a 10hp disabled nearly blind citizen can whip out a pistol and go on a rampage as soon as S2K starts.

What's stopping a group of CP's waiting for TBC to end between a citizen and another CP?

Waiting for a fight to end, isn't that like... timescale?
If a CP tells his buddies through discord that he's getting mugged and in response 5 of them come as close as they can while TBC is still going on, then if the mugged unit is killed the 5 new ones immediately step in to avenge him as if they'd always been there

if it were s2k then the mugging gets resolved in seconds, a much more realistic time frame that wouldn't allow for the victim to stall for backup to arrive. That doesn't mean I'm in favor of S2K for this, though

No, because they'd have to wait seconds at a time for the turn to end, people can still stall, in S2K they can't, but keep gaslighting me bro :D
It is arguments like these that have made TBC a lot better and made me implement a bunch of stuff to ensure things like this happened. And I have been watching over basically every single fight (yay admin notifications for fights starting) that was bigger than 2 people to watch for things to improve.

If you still don't like TBC, I heard there are other HL2RP servers that don't use it which you of course are always free to join. I can understand TBC isn't for everyone despite my best efforts to make it so.

If you are doing the mugging with anything more than bare fists, there is this mechanic that allows you to look at someone and click to force them into the fight. This works even with melee weapons (soon with fists as well). That'd have to wait completely out of sight, or risk getting dragged in via tagging or circles on tagged units which in turn forces them into timescale rounds. The issue is much smaller than you think it is.

Also, where S2K takes a few seconds, small scale TBC fights generally only take half a minute tops.

And the problem here is the cop metagaming, which he can do regardless if it is S2K (he might just give away your name/description instead or whatever). Either way, as long as he meta's there will be a problem, neither S2K nor TBC change that.

/radio 11-99 officer needs assistance
all cops run to the scene despite being on the other side of the city (the city that takes minutes to traverse because it's so bad *big* haha freudian slip))
before the mugger can even react to the /radio or protest in /looc that they didnt attempt to do this and wait for a response or anything and there are 5 cops there and he's dead

seems like a very difficult problem to solve, but only a small portion of what this thread is about. There's a problem with how the OTA reacted to RogueSynapse's looc, whether that be the result of his own judgement or (even worse) the orders of the faction lead. Along with OTA being deployed when it wasn't necessary.

The conversation became about timescale because Robert said no timescale in public places

There is an easy solution, have timescale in public places. I'm sorry if it's inconvenient that a part of the map might be inaccessible for ten to fifteen minutes, but if you need to go past you can go through it - and if you want to be involved you can wait.

True, but this stems from the fact those two OTA arrived on-scene while the CAB member was typing because there's just no timescale at all for 'ease'. It applies to everything in the city in that regard.

If someone jumps a cop as of right now anywhere in the city (near enough, and C24 has a lot of back alleys) there is nothing stopping that cop taking ages to type a /me while backup arrives. Even in the TBC sense, nothing stops a backup PT from cutting the poor guy off as he's chugging along trying to break LOS.

Even if he's lucky and catches them enough to drag them into the fight from a distance, that's still a lot more units to now dodge.

The issue has been noted, OTA lead has been spoken to.
It is important that you make clear you mean the other lead and not Ron Goodfella, who has not been seen in a month.
The person in question is your cop and OTA lead. Ron should not be guilty by association, when he has not been on (god bless him)

I appreciate Willard loves vague language but trying to mitigate blame by not naming names is weak.
  1. This was not an admin sit. No admin was talking to you, you may have PM'ed one but no admin sit was initiated. Just because you PM an admins doesn't make it a sit. Only when the admin comes over and asks people to hold and stop does it becoming a sit, otherwise, IC action can be taken against you.
Also having experienced your admin team on the server, waiting for a reply to a /help can take forever i.e. never responded to and entirely ignored. He'd have more luck getting an admins attention if he just minge ran from someone trying to powergame.

That being said, timescale would also stop said abuse anyways.
It lessens abuse, it stops this stalling bullshit and allows for "blindspots" to be exploited - a good simple room for timescale - If you can see a government building (The Reichstag/The central map building) then time scale does not apply, because you can be seen easily or if there is a camera nearby. E Zed P Zed.

As for the OTA lead situation, OTA have already had a marred and turbulent history even before the server launch, constant lead changes, in fighting, arguing, the fact they are the ubermensch of stats - then they take some of the most powerful, iconic character of HL2RP and somehow they're worse than the edgy robo-cops? poor form. OTA should be a statement, a closing line, like sinking a flag-ship or bombing a hospital - when OTA show up it's gone to shit.

Tone does not seem to exist here, pacing doesn't make sense. OTA PROTECT JOHNNY NOBODY! Not to mention the absolute shit behaviour of not actioning his hit - The lead told him to? That's bad! What's worse is he didn't even do /me punches.
SMH My head.

((For the record, I have said nothing slanderous on this post, no defamation of any kind may be found ))

I'm not sure how much was said about this particular point and frankly I don't care to read the past few pages of this thread right now, but I want to reinforce the suggestion that timescale in public spaces might be something worth considering.

I was present for @RogueSynapse 's altercation with the official that started this issue, and directly involved. I attempted to stop him from attacking and was afterwards knocked out by the OTA when they arrived (Also without RP, they just sort of sauntered up to me while I was backing away and hit me. Though that's not the point of this post).

The conflict started when Rogue Synapse attacked using a /me. The other player began performing. We waited patiently for about a minute, during which I was waiting for the other player to react before I reacted myself. The squad of OTA and cops then rounded the corner, which was when he decided to try and do his /me to flee. The OTA then approached us and knocked us out, and Rogue Synapse died as a result.

I have reason to suspect that he was intentionally delaying. The /me itself was rather basic and certainly wouldn't have taken him that long to think or come up with. He did the /me as soon as the reinforcements were within eyesight. And he would have probably known that they were going to show up to save him ahead of time because there was a meeting to occur in a storefront next to our position.

Does this mean every Union official or employee has a sort of immunity to combat if they're in one of the public zones where timescale isn't allowed? All it would take is for them to message one of their buddies in the CCA on discord or steam, and then drag out the /me's as long as possible for the cavalry to arrive. Bonus if there's an OTA there, because then the attacker will be dispatched without any RP. Yes, there's rules against this sort of meta, but meta is harder to catch than a timescale would be to enforce.

I tried to prevent this. I warned you.

The Overwatch unit in question has been warned and his trial period has been extended. The Overwatch faction is now aware that punching with no roleplay is not allowed, and that doing so will result in a dewhitelist. Seeing how this was a case of miscommunication rather than malice (the OTA was told he could do the /punch thing without roleplay) the faction lead has also been informed and reprimanded.

Moreover, all LOOC restrictions from OTA players have been lifted. They are free to converse in LOOC at their discretion.

If there's anything else you want to add, contact me privately. For now, complaint sorted and locked.
