Currently the willard soundtrack consists of songs that I believe take away from the atmosphere, I am suggesting that we add more depressing songs such as "Mental Caverns Without Sunshine" by the caretaker.

The Current songs on willard to dont scream depression, they yell 'Sadness' and they are from other works, for example I will be walking around minding my business when all of a sudden I hear the song from the Joker and that takes me out of RP as I think "huh joker song". Adding songs from the Caretaker would completely take away from that as not many films/TVs shows have used the Caretakers music.

Here is an example:

This song gives you the overall feel of dread and unease, it makes you feel more as if you are trapped in the dark, it gives you a feeling in your gut that you cant quite describe but you just know it is negative.

Here is a piece used in the server:

This song is from the movie 'Joker (2019)' and it is used to accompany the 'Bathroom dance' Scene. The music is used to amplify the eeriness of the dance that Arthur Fleck does in the bathroom, the dance is meant to show Arthur Flecks complete transformation into 'The Joker'.

Both pieces are good however one of them is made for a specific scene in a movie whilst the other one is sad and gloomy. The difference in the tracks is huge as one is signifies Depression and Dementia while the other one is used to accompany a specific scene for a specific movie.

It would also be nice for music to be used less often, simply just turn the music off as while it is nice I would much rather hear city ambiance over that one clone wars song for the 100th time. Music should be a more event based thing as it does indeed take away from the feel of the server to an EXTENT.

POV: You're walking home from a workshift you nearly died in and find out you didnt get any rewards

I honestly prefer to use the main Half-Life 2 soundtrack. Using the passive songs they have.

Using depressive songs won't add to the atmosphere, because the atmosphere isn't purely depressive, it's a lot more complicated than that. It's hope, struggle, uncertainty, despair. Just using one singular tone won't add anything. If anything, it'll take away from the ambiguity of the world.

You cannot have intercourse with those you love, your world has been ravaged to a point of no return, there is strange fauna that no one can describe, all children have either been made slaves or have been killed, the world is dying and there is very little that we can actually do and that isnt even all of it, the world is 100% meant to be depressive

Yeah, but just because that is happening, doesn't mean that everyone is in constant sadness all the time 24/7. The things comprising the world are not *just* the world, the people are also part of it. And their current struggles, be it for the betterment of themselves, the betterment of others, as well as them just living their lives makes it so that the whole of the world isn't just hopelessness and sadness.
Hence why I don't think that the music players hear should be completely and utterly depressive.

IMO, it should either be kept the way it is (because not everyone has the thought of 'joker music' when hearing a thematically appropriate soundtrack) , or there should be a greater variety of music of varying moods to an extent. This world isn't meant to be just one way or the other, that's based on perception, and perception is based in the people, and that perception changes with the actions of the people, hence - ambiguity.

Its really hard to keep optimistic when you are trying to save a world that has be raped for its resources, you will have nothing near 2 years after governments take back control. I am also asking for the music to be changed so its not 24/7 and really only used in events. Just put yourself in the position of someone from half life, you have been ripped from your family, you will never see them again, your world has been stripped of natrual resources, you are constantly moved from city to city, you struggle to make connections, you want to fight but what is there to fight for?

Despite everything that happened, no sex somehow made it to the top of the list.
I put sex first as it is a very human thing to want to do, it is peak intimacy as you are allowing someone to hold or give you a baby, you are essentially letting someone splice your DNA with them and in return you get a child that you will more than likely want to care for. Prolly preaching to the wrong crowd but yeah sex is the most relatable thing out of all of the shit I listed, just remembered I was talking to Gmod RPers smh

Again, in the willard lore, there is quite clearly plenty of people willing to live life in the cities however they can. Not everyone wants to fight. It's not all black and white.

I am just using the rebel as an example as I have mainly seen you play rebel, I understand that people want to live in the cities in willard lore, people do similar things in the real world too such as the people who support the Soviet Union and most people who supported the Nazis, I am in no way saying it is black and white I am mearly saying that the HL2 universe is a depressing one and quite frankly I dont care if someones character isnt upset as in reality what would many people think upon being stripped from their families etc etc. the loyalists do what they do as they see the combine as a force that is meant to help them yet they are blind to all the bad they have done by choice or by general cover up. Stating this again as I do not believe it was clear the first time, the hl2 universe is sad, I do not think that joker music should be played as it is not tailored to the hl2 universe, I think that the works from people such as the caretaker should as it isnt tailored towards anything and it is alot better at setting a scene that the joker music in most situations in the server

Quick thought, different music for different sectors of the map?

Depressing tones for the slums, a tad more cheery for the plaza, sinister in the nexus.. etcetera, could be a nice addition
