S2K for Sweeps

If the entire OTA team gets caught in TBC against 1 headcrab, then that just reflects their skills as players and has nothing to do with TBC.

Keep in mind, it was OTA this time. I am not sure you will have the same thoughts if it is you who gets caught in TBC by a headcrab with OTA hot on your heels.

There's implemented timescale so shooting an npc might actually save my skin. when OTA are following me. S2K removes the strategy element. incendiaries wouldn't be able to block a door, frags will be poorly timed and the speed of which everything is happening means I wouldn't be able to use any boosts like adrenaline to increase my chances.

All that's happening in this suggestion is CPs and OTA trying to stack the deck in their favour when their skills already mean they'll annihilate anyone who faces them.

To address the issue with lots of npcs in the area, that's not a failure of TBC but a failure for admins to plan out where they're actually placing them so they can be dispatched in groups and fighters can move on. If it is that much of an issue, then remove TBC for npcs only during sweeps and problem solved.

If NPCs are slowing you down then that's the issue you want to solve with this suggestion. People running away with no /me has nothing to do with it. So make it so NPCs cant trigger TBC and problem solved.

I think we know what kind of CP/Rebel dynamic you want....

It was a lot more interesting than what we have now. Bruce has a solid point: making resistance roleplay challenging is one thing, but making it tedious and insufferable is another thing entirely. I think the server-wide preference for Combine factions is undeniable (which fits to a degree seeing how it is a loyalist city) but it has reached the point where giving the rebels even a remote semblance of an advantage or quality of life improvement is immediately decried.

Transhumans are not invincible. I feel like with all the advantages they already have, forcing a S2K mode for their sweeps - for a rebel population that is still in the early stages of developing - is not only detrimental to the server, but also rather silly. Why we lean so much on a faction that is, according to some, 'an ooc tool to keep rebels in check' is beyond me.

As a compromise, I suggest keeping TBC during a sweep but forgoing the /me condition. More dynamic and fast paced without getting rid of the primary combat system.

or dont sweep for the smallest reason possible idk

If only we could disable TBC for NPCS but keep it for players :Troll:

In all seriousness I personally don't mind the TBC slowing Overwatch down, it gives the rebels a chance to escape from death only to be killed later by an NPC or Overwatch during another sweep. On paper the system seems flawed being how its basically "Overwatch forces enter the sewer, they begin the sweep but early on engage an NPC in TBC, it dies quickly but the shots fired alerted the rebels that a sweep is happening causing them all to run without Overwatch having a chance to fight them due to them being locked in TBC"

I don't know how we would counter the issue stated, it sounds ass. I just wanted to give my comment on it.

You know from discord staff chat I'm all for making harder for everyone no matter the faction. Any IC death should be PK IMO, no one is special because of factions.

Y'all complaining about NPCs slowing down people because of TBC, just do this:

Three options for TBC:
- Enabled
- Player only
- Disabled

what i mean by this is that staff could get an option to make TBC player only, like, only PVP fights enable TBC not NPCs this would be triggered when there are sweeps.

then the other two (Enabled - Disabled) are the common ones we know.

better question is how someone can prove that this is the case

Have you actually, like, read the rules or played on the server?

Shit, dude - your faction has had changes that pretty much allow it to powergame as a DIRECT response to your actions.

Please enlighten me where it says that OTA, alone, are allowed to powergame. And other than that, is there anything else to prove your point?

yeah ofc OTA are gonna powergame lol
anybody ever thought of like
OTA just being a tool to PK rebels??

This rule was implemented because you powergamed on your Ordinal, and from what I can tell, weren't punished for breaking the rules.

The fact a donator can play a headcrab and repeatedly attempt to PK your character in the sewers (which, by the way, was originally the sewers AND the slums) shows a pretty strong anti-crime bias. It's not explicit, it's things like the headcrabs and this proposal for S2K that empower Union factions.

Additionally, I don't know if you've read many other posts here, but some of these Union players are out for blood and view resistance RP as lesser than Combine RP. It's unhealthy to have that viewpoint, and even more so to propagate it throughout the CPF faction as a whole.

I still can't see where it says OTA alone are allowed to powergame.

There was a general mixup of rules which is why it lead to this action. Through the rule change, it was cleared up. This situation lead to no consequence for rebels.

No.

I don't know what you are trying to say with this and how that shows a "strong anti-crime bias". Whatever you are trying to say, it seems that it's best to move that to the OTA/CP CCC.

Indeed, that would be an unhealthy view towards resistance RP. However I did not receive any reports about such attitude so I recommend you to report this directly to any of the overwatch leads instead of complaining about it in a suggestion thread.

and even more so to propagate it throughout the CPF faction as a whole.
I am not a "CPF" lead and have no evidence of anyone actively encouraging this behavior. None of the leads wish to spread this mentality so I don't know what you are talking about.

very long

It doesn't literally say they are allowed to powergame - that's what I'm getting at. It's implicitly allowing factions that operate against resistance RP to break rules and then change to make it a grey area after somebody reports it. There's not supposed to be the kind of "oh well, I guess it wasn't technically defined" kind of attitude towards issues that seriously impact a player's ability to enjoy the server. The same thing happened within the BCI (coincidentally also by you) - an area that was fairly clearly defined as something that would violate the rules was declared a "grey area" and no punishment was dished out.

For the record, I can guarantee you if a rebel had used a bind and didn't wait for somebody to react, there would have been no rule change, just a punishment.

This thread's going sideways and producing drama, so I'm going to arrive to one logical standpoint which is easy to produce in any sweep or deployment:

If you want S2K, you can always vote for it in game. That is an option in TBC that's universally applied throughout the server. If Willard Networks produces permanent S2K in sweeps with both Combine numerical superiority and equipment totality, then we'd be accepting the nuclear option. That will annihilate what ever rebel roleplay is left which produces a great many upset players and eventually groups of people leaving the server in droves, /forever/, if I dare accept this suggestion.

Sweeps and deployments are dangerous enough in Turn-Based-Combat. By moral and ethical choice that provides a beneficial standpoint for anyone outside Civil Protection & Overwatch.

The Status-quo will be left as it is. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
