Picture this, you're a regular slummer who just joined the server, right?
You've extensively read the rules, every faction, just so you're sure on what is and isn't allowed.
Suddenly, you're face to face with a headcrab, you know what they are, you know what they do.
Now picture this, said headcrab is *looting a trash bag in front of you before running away*.

What the fuck?

I'm sorry, but why is there an 'intelligent' 'debeaked' 'docile' headcrab running around?
Now, that isn't the worst part, why is it LOOTING TRASH BAGS?
I'm sorry, so we are supposed to be a 'serious' roleplay server, but I'm seeing a headcrab grind trash?
What?



This begs the question, what is and isn't allowed?
We have a crow that's been along with the CCR for more than a year,
a crow who is actively looting trash and given it to people.
A crow who is a nuisance to people and opens doors to go through them.




Now we have a headcrab who is intelligent, tamed, docile, debeaked,
running around looting trashbag for (???).​

To be fair, the crow was recently punished with "dewhitelist" for some of its behaviours. I am not aware of all the details but perhaps something that should be mentioned.

The bird issue was resolved I believe. From what I remember there was 1 or 2 people who lost their bird access recently due to breaking guidelines.

As for the Headcrab, I assume you refer to the 2 headcrabs running around. One of them is new, the other is 1 year old and has a lot of auths to its name.

The first one, the newer headcrab known as "Docile Headcrab" is not actually docile, its name comes from the fact it refuses to attack groups- it mainly seeks loners hence why its description gives the hint away that it may indeed still be hostile. But that one is the newer one, so little info available at this time.

As for the Second headcrab, it is a one year old character has a lot of auths to its name, it is played fairly and very well by its controller with very high quality RP. While human chars only experience said RP via its /me's and nonsense speak. The Vortigaunts can communicate with this creature perfectly and often have long awkward talks with one another. Awkward because of the fact the Headcrab speaks in a sort of disjointed manner, its speech akin to that of a 10 year old child using the Xendarian language.

The Vortigaunts spent time taming this headcrab, looking after it and generally interacting with it to make it the way it is today. Its not like it crawled out of nowhere as a new char suddenly granted a lot of things that standard crabs have to follow, it is basically ancient char that has managed to live this long with a lot of playtime. It has developed, grown and adapted after all this time, creating the fast crabby some of the players know.

Interactions with this character have all had positive feedback thus far with no negative comments- so this complaint is out of nowhere who are watching over these whitelists and the players in them along with the rest of the server.

It has gone through countless hours of RP development and all its actions are pretty much authed with a lot of RP to back it up. They don't just loot trash either, but do quite a few /me's in the process.

Keep in mind this is the only headcrab on the whole server with these auths. Its abilities are unique to it and has so far added to some peoples RP experience. May not to be everyones cup of tea, but does still add more rather than cause problems.

There is the full context. And no, I do not play second, the second is controlled by a player. The first crab which is not docile, intelligence, debeaked, etc is played by me.

I was asked to respond to this as I’ve been named as responsible for giving these “auths” and I must clear up some confusion. I won’t comment on the bird as they’ve been dewhitelisted and shouldn’t repeat the same behaviour. Will consider it dealt with.

While I did not directly auth a docile headcrab, I did take notice upon the character shortly after it was created. After some back and forth I decided to let the character stay under the condition that it remained as an event character, since the story surrounding it was enough to consider an “event”. Ordinarily, docile crabs would absolutely not be allowed. This special privilege was also under the expectation that the crab still displays ordinary headcrab characteristics. The headcrab guidelines that long predate this character go into more detail about that, and should still be followed in any circumstance. No exceptions.

All of this is of course under the expectation that it follows any other event character rules as well and shouldn’t appear all the time. The moment you play an event character like a regular character, you throw away that event status. After all, event characters should only appear if the story warrants it. They shouldn’t be hanging around. If it wants to be a regular character, it should go through the actual auth process as no auths for a docile headcrab have ever been accepted. Furthermore, if they were, all current auths were revoked with the wipe and map change, so it wouldn’t even apply in the first place.

I frankly believe this is ridiculous, and if it happened, it probably was more of an inside joke than anything else. Probably. It goes without saying that headcrabs shouldn’t be looting trash and I hopefully shouldn’t need to add that to the rules.

The above notion of headcrabs looting trash is borderline parody for what is supposed to be a serious RP server so I’ll take that with a grain of salt and trust that it didn’t happen in any supposedly serious context. If it did, it needs to end immediately.

In any case, thank you for the complaint. I’ll be monitoring donator WL players myself, to ensure they’re not used in any way to gain an advantage for other players, also known as pay-to-win mechanics, which we absolutely want to avoid.

Hello frens, I couldn't but stumble upon this post, and so I will answer!

I play a headcrab called Crabby, originally addressed as Subject 05B, one which was pertaining to the Universal Union and under the jurisdiction of the CMRU, specifically their research unit within I-24. This headcrab was brought to life and instantly stripped of its major contingency weapons; the fangs of the frontal section were removed surgically, as were the teeth surrounding the aperture it has below. My character is around a year old, if I am not mistaken (please do note that I have memory issues, and this warrants research to understand when exactly I created this character). No matter, I will continue to explain my side.

Upon the detonation of the CMRU within I-24, Subject 05B managed to escape amidst the chaos. This creature was in a broken state, suddenly liberated from its creators and captors, towards an unknown planet it had never experienced beyond a cage and experiments done to it. 05B was found by a group of slummers, Keim Rider (@ActuallyRakaesa) decided to take it upon himself to further investigate this creature and brought him within the quarters of The Nameless; I think that was their cell group. Now with the newly given designation of 'Crabby,' this headcrab was initially still quite violent, with the urge and necessity to meddle with the cranium of people as per their natural instincts. It has taken months of being inside this room and constantly interacting with humans until the creature was able to lower this urge; meanwhile, it was taught much of the humans, their customs, and their activities. Crabby since then followed through the territories, and I have been getting a very extensive role-play as this creature, with elaborate actions for everything it does and a curve of learning. The consciousness of Subject 05B expanded with time, while it acts as a toddler in its behavior, it actually has gotten pretty smart for such a creature. It communicates properly with those knowing of the Xendarian tongue and managed to strike alliances with various Vortigaunts, and humans alike.

It is true that the head-crab at times moves to the surface and retrieves some of the items within the trash bags, given the Vortigaunt had asked of it to assist, and in return they gave it a place to call home, and perhaps even a family. I do want to point out that not every head-crab is like this, especially not those that have grown outside of a facility and were not stripped of their natural weapons. Crabby is unable to transform a human or any creature alike into a host, given it lost the capacity to do so.

I will finish by saying that I try to portray this creature as best as I can, and I am sorry if looting through some of the trash bags has annoyed you, but I stop next to anyone who is performing and let them react to Crabby's presence, likewise answering in return with my own RP. I did not, under any circumstances, as far as I know, run away without role-play.

I hope this clarifies a bit of my actions as this creature and perhaps makes you less judgmental of such RP. I would never wish to cause harm to anyone's role-play or lower their quality; if it happened, then I am truly sorry, as it was not meant.
