Rations are restricted on 2 hour basis anyway. Turning them off for hours on end denies players the ability to get easily accessible food and water, makes it hard to make a living if the CWU don't do workshifts more regularly than they do, and prevents people from turning in coupons. We also can't rely on the CWU/CPs to turn it on when it should be turned on, so the result is that it remains off for days on end. Even if it's 'realistic', it's just flatout annoying.

Arguments to address-

1: The CPs have a timetable for this. On for an hour, off for an hour.

This timetable is not being followed and the RDT is just put on for 5 minutes, then turned off indefinitely. If CPs forget to activate rations, as they do, and as they have, people will just starve.

2: This timetable creates interesting situations through ration lines.

I would argue that this is a dumb idea to strive for. Nobody REALLY likes ration lines. They're a chore. Besides, people just end up starving.

Conclusion: This is a process that should simply remain automatic, for the sake of ease and simplicity.

i dont know why some CPs feel like they HAVE to be in there while the ration machine is on. You don't. Turn it on and fuck off until it's time to turn it off again, dummies.

I think we should just lower the ration cooldown to 1 hour and keep the ration timetable. AND punish cps who forget to turn it on/off

You are supposed to wait next to the RDT for 30 mins after opening it.

Everyone will be rich, ration timer was 4 hours before that if you remember. Also, if CPs forget about it, citizens can just ask and they will open it.

Of course halving the cooldown implies halving the reward.

I'm about to explain something extremely semantic to you as none of you have your heads at ground level.

If we half the time and reward, but still keep this system of CP timetables, it changes nothing, as the rations will only remain up for an hour and not come back for several, thus changing it from 2 hours to 1 hour is a moot idea.

The only change here is that citizens are getting less credits for the rations they will end up waiting hours upon hours for.

The core of this suggestion is that we just need to get rid of the timetables and keep the rations up indefinitely, simply because we flat-out cannot trust CPs to manage rations.

Plus, and this is more important, there is 0 point in forcing them to manage it and offering punishment to those who can't. If we do, then you create an ultimatum where citizens are being punished, or CPs are being punished, and nobody's having fun.

The reward is nothing, as nobody wanted this timetable to be instated and nobody fucking likes it. It delays ration distribution, damns the economy, and if workshifts aren't done regularly enough to compensate for an absence of rations, forces citizens to just starve.

It looks like you care more about scripts and credits than roleplay. I like this system a lot more than the old one as well so your statement of nobody liking this system is wrong. Finally, as I said before, just ask CPs to open it and it takes them 5 minutes to organize a PT and open it.

And finally, as a citizen, you are supposed to be starving all the time.

Okay and?

Rations arent your only source of food. They arent your only source of income either.

Maybe this system has been put in place to encourage people like you to get creative and not just grind rations all day.

Theres several places you can buy food from, theres several ways you can obtain legal or illegal currency.

My character's survival is dependent on food scripts. Please don't be stupid.

We can't all play the server actively enough to realize how stupid this is.
Finally, as I said before, just ask CPs to open it and it takes them 5 minutes to organize a PT and open it.
And five minutes to shut it down because they're too bored to wait around for rations to actually be DONE before closing the RDT. Also, I had to ask at least 10 different CPs to turn on rations before they, indeed, turned on rations. Half of them just said "That's too bad." and then walked away.
And finally, as a citizen, you are supposed to be starving all the time.
I thought you'd be done the first time you said "Finally".

This isn't City 45. This is City 24, a prestigious, luxurious city which caters to and encourages loyalism. The one thing you AREN'T supposed to be is starving all the time. Even in City 17, citizens show no signs of malnutrition and you're allowed to be built as hell if you damn well please. So the "muh malnourished citizen" meets the same fate it has always met: falling flat on its face.

Even if this argument were not indicative of your inexperience playing this server, it still shows off support for the most common cause of death for City RP servers; "muh dystopia". When dystopian oppression becomes over-the-top and aggressive so as to go beyond what we're shown in Half-Life, and, more importantly, to make RP less fun and engaging. I believe we pull off the dystopian setting perfectly well WITHOUT starving citizens in a city where you AREN'T supposed to starve citizens.

If you want citizens to focus less on getting food, then you should not constantly deny them food. As it stands, people want to play LESS because while they're offline, they don't starve or dehydrate. I've seen nonstop complaints in-game about how the rations are almost constantly offline. So you are in the minority of people who enjoy the ration timetable system, which wasn't necessary to begin with since we already have a time gate between rations.

Okay and?
You're joking.
Rations arent your only source of food. They arent your only source of income either.
Oh, you're serious.
Maybe this system has been put in place to encourage people like you to get creative and not just grind rations all day.
Man, you're funny.
Theres several places you can buy food from, theres several ways you can obtain legal or illegal currency.
Hun, I didn't mean to break this to you, but I can't really buy food without legal currency, and I can't really get legal currency without workshifts and rations.

Rations are just under half the average citizen's income, the other half being workshifts. Your primary source of income is meant to be working, yes, but workshifts are finicky and when there aren't workshifts, there needs to be another way for me to feed myself. Rations exist for that exact, particular reason, and the money they provide sustains me and my character's needs when workshifts are unable to.

Their unfettered existence takes a significant load off the CWU's shoulders, and they no longer need to force workshifts or otherwise overwork themselves, and CPs do not fear punishment for mishandling ration timetables.

When you timegate rations and set the means of obtention to an unreliable source (CPs), citizens have no reliable income and therefore no reliable source of nourishment or necessary tools. It becomes an arbitrary roadblock preventing citizens from having the monetary or nutritional means to carry out any tasks reliably.

And I will say this again because you did not hear it last time; Rations just straightup do NOT need to be timegated any further. They already have a 2 hour cooldown, delegating them to an hourly distribution manually by way of CPs is unnecessary and serves no purpose but to create ration lines, which tend to be more sporadic and short as they were before, creating no real difference at the cost of most peoples' enjoyment of the server.

I bet if units got thrown some 99's for forgetting they would start to remember. Mayhaps we should start with this.
:angrycop:

I don't mind the effort to actually make rations a bit more... thematic by inspiring lines via opening and closing them at specific times. You don't die or take damage from a lack of food and honestly even if you are downright starving the penalties are pretty meager. Mostly neutral on this, though I do like seeing the lines form.

i dont know why some CPs feel like they HAVE to be in there while the ration machine is on. You don't. Turn it on and fuck off until it's time to turn it off again, dummies.
I've been yelled at by RLs for not having two units in the room while rations are on, and ordered to go turn them off.
So, according to those RLs, you need two units to have rations active. That's stupid

It's a 2 hour timetable, with rations opening for 30 minutes, aside from off-peak hours where we leave it enabled permanently. Whenever I am on I check this, whenever I am with a new CP I make sure to explicitly make it part of my "tour" and tell them how important it is. Don't remove a part of our job that quite frankly, I like. It also gives us opportunities to lure in BOL targets as everyone funnels to it at the same time.

This is an IC issue with CPs not checking, not an OOC issue that's destroying citizen gameplay or whatever.

Participate in workshifts. Seek employment. So many ways to make money, you should not rely on rations either way. Spoiler alert: they were designed to be *not enough* even if you collect them on cooldown.

I like seeing the lines form too, but the issue is that CPs don't turn rations on, or don't keep them on for the 30 minutes they're supposed to.

Tbf its common sense. You have a mass of citizens flooding into the RDT - someone needs to watch them to make sure they don't murder each other over rations.

Yep, you are out of valid arguments and now trying to attack the person, I am used to this.

You are trying to do RebelRP within the city, it's supposed to be extremely hard as you will need to keep buying or making food to stay your skills up, that's the only reason you would want to stay well-fed and hydrated. Ask how people in sewers survive without any food from the rations and keep on building their rebel bases and their arsenal, maybe they can give you a few tips.

I'm not trying to do RebelRP within the city.
