What are peoples general thoughts on the server?

I want more events for the common citizens and loyalists. I want the civil administration to be present and do something meaningful other than shutting down plotlines.

Overall I'm very much enjoying the server though.

I think the obsession with "setting/lore accuracy" is rapidly moving from being a detriment to being a serious problem. It genuinely feels like I've stepped back in time about 6/7 years where everyone thought it was cool to be a brutal and dystopian as possible.

You have high-up staff members complaining that their interesting plotlines are being stamped out.

You're have PK's such as the one done to @Merlinsclaw because he didn't write some super obvious idealised "all is well!" article and instead tried to be actually realistic (while another staff member does some weird stupid ghost event in the midst of it?).

You have very vocal members of the Civil Protection faction arguing "Citizens are the lifeblood of the server! Our faction helps convince them to stay!" and "It makes sense that all we do is tell them to move along or beat them!" in the same paragraph.

Visually WN is very unique. Its cool and shiny. But it legitimately feels like any dime-a-dozen CW server from the olden days in execution.
lore shouldnt exist imo
more freedom for backstories

server could utilise show not tell "lore"

Once again I'll reply, the server has potential and with what I've seen, it's fun but it has room for its improvements, if Willard wants to be unique then it should do so, starting by doing what its people want, and then it can branch out.

It feels like a really weird move to me to launch a server that spent six months in recovery then within two weeks branch out and open two alternate language communities.

I'd have thought you would focus on your main community, not start a franchise.

I mean, they are, WN7 and WNO are basically autonomous in what they do.

Quick correction just for the record. If you look at the appeal, you'll notice he wasn't killed for writing the paper. His character was killed for being foolish enough to not only directly insult the units, but proudly proclaim how many times he has gotten away with conspiracy and tying the noose with a final "I'll do it again."

So this isn't an issue at all. Will comment on the rest later.

Still had the paper completely shut down

Not true. Conspiracy charge was from a cop who read the paper omealol.

Anyways shutting down criticism and saying “we aren’t going to regulate RP” is hilarious. You regulate stuff like the Futurist events etc but wouldn’t dare touch cops.

There needs to be quality control. It’s basically a bunch of young teenangers doing super edgey rp and it’s not great.

I do feel like the 'freedom of roleplay' clause has been somewhere lost along the way. OOCLy? Occasionally. ICly? No.

Yes, he was going to receive a charge for the paper. But this wasn't why he was killed. He was killed over all of the stuff done after the fact.

I'd actually say the reverse; I think the 'freedom of roleplay' clause has been selectively exercised too much in one direction.

I mean you have cops who're apparently meant to be super setting accurate and there to set a mood (to the point they can't have unique interesting descriptions or include accents and are punished for interacting too long with citizens) but then their boss or whatever is this?

Like this looks like it walked right out of a High Command server.

Freedom of Roleplay

but no politics
nothing that breaks the dystopia

ignore
cops who kill rp
edge lords

Spirit events

"You can't have accents in your descriptions. Your units wouldn't stand out that much and your description has to be as basic as possible. This won't be changing."

>Proceeds to play Mr. X in a cop uniform with a unique mask design and a trenchcoat making him stand out from literally every single other cop on the server

The paper could've continued with a few edits, but George decided it would be a good idea to go get himself shot.

You were actually charged on your record for Felony Insight. It became Conspiracy after you made the moronic decision to well, do everything @RedHotGinger just stated. Insulted the Cps, say you will do it again and claim to commit prior conspiracies. Congratulations on your death. Stop being a crybaby and accept the fact you got yourself killed.

I have 0 tolerance for liars.

They are complete autonomous communities. They become under WN because they use the WN framework. Their workings, developers and staff are all their own, just use our content on top of their own designs.

lore shouldnt exist imo
Lore should always exist. You try not having lore and you end up with a chaotic world with no direction. No one will know what is what, no one will know how anything works, no will know what the history of the world is, etc. It always must be documented. Hell, no events would happen if there was no lore to build off of. Any good event writer knows that without a world to build off of, there is nothing.

I want more events for the common citizens and loyalists. I want the civil administration to be present and do something meaningful other than shutting down plotlines.
This is being worked on. Trying to reboot the loyalists and get their events going and fix the Civil Administration all ICly. Citizen events are being told to be focused more on to take a step away from the Rebels and CPs.

This is a point brought up a few times and a hard one to solve. Since there must always be a balance. Some people want the hl2 immersions, others don't. You drift too far away from lore of the world, you could create a hole in the story. Stick too close to it, it becomes bland and boring. So ye, it's all a game of balance and becomes quite hefty to handle.

You have high-up staff members complaining that their interesting plotlines are being stamped out.
We have no staff with plotlines being stamped out atm? Not sure where this came from. The storyline reboot for futurism is in progress with a summit one around too that are being worked on and moving along just fine. Any other event has already happened.

You have PK's such as the one done to @@Merlinsclaw because he didn't write some super obvious idealised "all is well!" article and instead tried to be actually realistic (while another staff member does some weird stupid ghost event in the midst of it?).
That is a lie, read the appeal and note the logs. He gained multiple orange tier violations in less than an hour which got him killed. Not the paper.

You have very vocal members of the Civil Protection faction arguing "Citizens are the lifeblood of the server! Our faction helps convince them to stay!" and "It makes sense that all we do is tell them to move along or beat them!" in the same paragraph.
This is an individual player choice atm. SOme cps are unique, others are not. Some will let a citizen go, others will not. It really depends on who you interact with.

CP Lead here.

The psychology of involving the players with Civil Protection is truly a mark on individuality problems for the faction, one of which is not an easy fix. I sadly can't lobotomise them with the ability. Same coherent problem is that Willard's sort of a melting-bowl of new roleplayers, grizzled HL2 vets, liberally open players and authoritative stepping players.

The guidelines I personally implemented were to improve Citizen - CP Roleplay quality to a desirable outcome. There's an obvious split to which I presume to be both a confidence issue (seriously I don't understand how people can be afraid to RP) and also a "play to win" mentality which creates a great deal of distortion to the rest of the faction. There's a good handful of amazing people in Civil Protection that take the step forward to make every activity interesting. Then there's the rabble that spam "<:: "Move along, HUH HUH HUH ::>" that is, to be frank, despising.

I've made it very clear before that I don't want robocops in the faction, while at the same time I've also made it very formal to alternate away from "nicecop" mentality.

To the cops that do read this - it's physically not hard at all to have an interesting conversation or involving yourself in a scenario without having to wall everyone in the vicinity. The guide isn't the bible or the Imperial Guardsman handbook. If you're here to RP then, please, actually do it.

Always a time and a place for the oppressive regime to come knocking on everyone's door, but not when it's physically "everything is fine and it's sunshine and rainbows at CODE BLUE" then there's really no need to shut the citizens down for trivial matters.

I've got a staff meeting tomorrow that'll likely come up with solutions and the final stance for which that Civil Protection will outright become. The first month for Willard in running CP was more to see where people stand, and if people don't follow the expectations that'll be set out - well, let's put it simply I wouldn't be afraid of wiping out half the whitelist if it's continually ignored and it just falls flat on its face because people voluntarily produce sub-par RP to make themselves feel good holding the stunbaton.

I hope everyone has a nice day.
