I mean it doesn't really help you in a constructive argument if you can't list your sourcesBro I don’t remember them. I’ve always said I can never remember the names of communities I’ve been in.
not good enoughWHICH STILL REQUIRES LESS EFFORT THEN A
DND CHARACTER SHEET
Name one to succeed beacuse it had a whitelist.name one that failed because they had a whitelist
The future of hl2rp are Short stories and limited / few month events with a set story.I've tried to word this 200 different ways so I may as well say it; @Omega and everyone else who is skeptical of this whitelist has every reason to be.
Whitelists work when there's actual hype to join a server and you have people fighting for spots otherwise so you want to keep a consistent experience. WN's first launch in 2021 had that in spades with 6+ active devs, a playerbase built of high quality roleplayers at the core and a brand new experience (supposedly).
WN 2023 has one active and overworked dev, a playerbase built up primarily of semi-serious refugees and an experience that has proven itself no different than any other community when you get past the script work. There is no new hype, there is no constant influx of good quality players.
Gmod's SeriousRP scene is a slowly dying; the days of getting 100 slots casually are long dead. You cater to what you have and hope you can attract new players to you to keep new ideas coming in.
There's already been the admission that a whitelist will cause a contraction of players and the idea that WN can afford to be picky at all is fantasty.
You can word it a million ways and they won't listen or care. It was decided upon long before the poll was even made. It'll go ahead and we'll probably have to walk it back once the damage has already been done.I've tried to word this 200 different ways so I may as well say it; @Omega and everyone else who is skeptical of this whitelist has every reason to be.

*Specialist Paolo Menta looks down at the important paperwork on his desk.Instead of a whitelist show me people who wanna play on the server and I'll see if they're fit to play ong![]()
*But*, I will say that WN is very clearly different than other seriousRP servers, and people who think WN is not seriousRP is saying to try and make the staff feel something or think something that could further their point. It is vastly superior, but alot of it depends on the individuals choosing to take it serious. If you just walked around the server and tried to serious rp with someone, 9/10 they'd get the message "Oh, this guy wants to seriousRP," and then it just happens.
That is a good question which I don't think anyone is sure about. The question that should be asked is if WN can survive these two things when they are put together.
I probs sit on the optimistic side of things and would like to see what effect a WL would have to a community such as Willard.
This will drive away so many new players.Ensuring that there aren't minges and bad players ruining the server is something staff should be doing, but instead we're
1. Forcing players who are actively trying to join to stop in their tracks and tab out
2. sign up for the forums with an email they may not be comfortable associating with willard in case of a data breach
3. search up their Steam community profile, and then go to a steam id converter, and then paste the information into an application format to join a garry's mod server
4. wait for however long it takes to get whitelisted (assuming they even do), and only then allow that player to roleplay on a server that is identical in every way to other roleplay servers that are running right now and aren't gatekeeping access like a bunch of elitists.
We're not exactly swimming in new players who haven't already been driven away, but after a change like this? say goodbye to seeing a new face in the city.
When you guys asked the community whether they wanted a whitelist, here's what they said.
