GOOD EVENING LADS WHO ARE READING THIS

Have you perhaps noticed, especially if you are a long standing player in your community, that the server seriousness and Roleplay standards are going down the bin?

Does your experience even less dystopian than what it used to be? I will list every issue with the majority of the Factions as I witnessed first hand:

Citizens:
This is a mixed pot, there's some people who roleplay accordingly but it's a minority in confront to what I have seen.

- There is absolutely no sense or recognition of the situation you are in (20+ years of constant slavery, labour and malnutrition) and people tend to act the way they would in real life, directly breaking the rules under the FailRP Section

"------------- A character's / behaviour and view of the world should match the scale and sense of the world they're living in, not real life."

Civil Protection:
I'm sorry to say this, as a Civpro main, I am afraid that this faction is the one that had the biggest decline in RP Standards, there are so many problems in my opinion and others:

- Metrocops feel like high school bullies, there is no real surgical protocol to follow to interact with Citizens or preserve conversations in public. I feel Starboat bait is part of this problem.

- The idea of a kind Metrocop (Which is overdone) should be rarely done and more punished by Command. No, I'm not saying that your cop should be a sadic that finds pleasure in hurting other people, but keep in mind you passed years of indocrination no matter what if your character chooses a path in the Civil Protection, they should be displayed more surgically rather than some 70s cop in Brooklyn.

ESPECIALLY the problem resides with some Rank Leaders, they recieve the same Memory replacement as Transhumans, the guide clearly states that they should be feared yet they act like some cool coaches for the units and fail to make you feel oppressed.

Resistance:
I've also played the Resistance, RP Hubs are enjoyable but the problem still lingers with inappropriate Roleplay for characters as they are:
- Self Proclaimed Warriors and fearless fighers
- Semi Serious Minges who only play to S2K (Fewer minority)

Before you say ha ha here's the fun police, no, there's ways of enjoying Roleplay by doing it accordingly, this is what Willard HL2RP should be, not a sitcom of silly jokes and corny actions to get on the Starboard.

It's pretty hilarious that the anonymity of Civil Protection, which in-lore is used to justify the atrocities of the regime and give a feeling of constant uneasiness, is now being abused to say silly shit for no consequence. This is as much of an IC issue as it is an OOC one. There needs to be a major crackdown on this sort of behavior.

The honest truth is, HL2-style oppression just isn't fun to roleplay in.

I remember the days not all that long ago where there were nonstop complaints that cops were one-note "fuck off" factories because trying to engage with citizens in a non-hostile way could get them demoted. That shit sucked ass.

Players really want oppression until they realise that means cops performing no-knock raids, scattering people off the streets and providing next to no roleplay when approached. And universally, it is the CP faction that gets the backlash from setting that sort of atmosphere.

The other problem? The best character arcs you can have as a cop never come from being oppressive thug from the get-go and almost always stem from the good cops who either go bad or resist the temptation as things go to shit.

Serious RP does not mean dark and griddy. It just means the characters that are played are taken seriously. In hl2 itself characters make jokes and are lighthearted. Here a list of some of the actual lines from the games:
"I wish I had a dime for every time somebody said that"
"Don't forget Hawaii."
"If you dare say 'That's gotta hurt,' I'll kill you."
"Sometimes I dream about cheese."
" I could eat a horse, hooves and all."
" To think, all I used to want to do was sell insurance."
" Hey, don't worry about us. See this car? We're fixing it up and getting the hell outta here. Driving to Hawaii! Beaches, babes and waves. Tell you what, if you ever get sick of this rebel crap, you know who to talk to."

However, you'll see a pattern in these funny lines, they are 100% from citizen and rebels in the game. CPs, and OTA should not be acting like this, and those provided screenshots are 10 times more stupid than any of the funny lines in hl2.

If you're going to say a funny thing, at least keep it in line with the above quotes, things that make sense for the setting.

I'm not saying that Metrocops should become npc_metrocop, the way they act currently is just not it however, it is unserious to the setting we are in. Cop-Citizen fraternisation shouldn't just cease to exist, it should be simply discreet and not condoned in public.

The interactions should be more surgical and professional and not act like you are in some KDrama.

You are just wrong, being silly goofy and approachable doesn't mean it's good RP, if that's what a cop char is, it's a bad character and straight up FailRP.

If your char has joined the Civil Protection you already gave in to the temptation, once you're in you are indocrinated and filled with benefits and threats. There is no reason that cops should be RPing the way they do currently.

Let me remind you that the Civil Protection is known ICly to be an expendable force with a high mortality rate, units live off Anti Fatigue rations yet they all RP as they are high on Molly

Okay, I am defending this because it’s me in the screenshot, so I am biased. However, genuinely, what is “low quality” about this roleplay? This seems extremely out of place from the rest of these which seemingly do have a valid argument behind them. This example just confuses me.

What is wrong with this????

I’ll be honest, as someone who mains a slummer char, the amount of unserious minge behavior I’ve seen by people in the slums just boggles my mind.

Most people don’t even bother role playing, let alone actually stop to talk at all.

And when they do, it’s just them asking for scripts

And to top it all off, their grammar and spelling are atrocious.

Does half the server pop just not speak English or something?

I mean, not being good in a language doesn't mean your unwillingness to properly roleplay.

I didn’t mean for it to sound like bad spelling = no intent to rp. My bad

Just that the rp I’ve seen has been lackluster

Roleplaying seriously /=/ robocop that tells you to fuck off.

These things do not exist in isolation. You can be serious and not be saying cartoonish stuff without just being a one-note character that doesn’t really exhibit any personality. The very complaint raised is the silly said stuff ic that goes beyond just humor in a dark place to bring about a little light.

The complaint isn’t saying you need to beat more people up or be more ‘oppresssive’ , it’s just saying act more like a person who’s living through an active genocide of their own people and are potentially complicit in it.

You are not playing a comic relief character, you are playing a complex human being with thoughts, feelings, emotions, and aspirations, all of which are beaten down upon every day in this new and ever changing reality.

It's a multilingual community, expanded w/ the French server's population joining us.

That I wasn’t aware of. I remember seeing something about a French and Spanish speaking server a while back.

I guess it makes sense then. I’m in no way putting people down who aren’t very fluent in English. Apologies if that’s what it sounded like.

We've detected and analysed the symptoms. Now the question is: how do we fix it?

Civpro faction leads have the power to crack down on this sort of behaviour, both through IC and OOC means. A moderate, light-handed approach should be taken though, as oftentimes reactionary measures can cause problems that overshadow the one it's trying to solve.

Amending the roleplay quality of slummers and the citizenry is more difficult. A top-down approach isn't really feasible. Really, the only thing you can do is to politely shame minge behaviour in LOOC. Emphasis on 'politely', as rudeness and haughtiness may energise the minge to do it harder.

If you're a good roleplayer, it's time to take a stand yourself. Put effort into your writing, dot your i's and cross your t's (in a figurative sense). Take pride in your work. Aim to inspire others, and they will hopefully realise the errors of their ways and improve. If a bad roleplayer is treated with respect and high quality, a lot of the time they will strive to mirror that quality themselves.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

This is an IC issue I believe. However I agree the CivPro faction is unserious, but cop citizen interactions should be punished ICLY.

Both ICly but there has to be some sort of OOC Input especially in the Civpro guides where everything is too vague and everyone interprets it the way they want
