Enforce PK rules

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I haven't seen any PK's on the side of CPs, and as I stated prior they lose nothing but a character which is easily replaced by another Unit and the gear is just a salesman.
You say this like scripts are everything anyone cares about. Like I don't give a shit if I lose my precious scripts on a CP, I care about the character development I lost. So just saying "they can just make a new character" doesn't really cut it

Cops are characters too, as much as people hate to see it

Do not ask me, I am not the bottlestreet leader nor was I part of the raid; I merely inhibit the discord that most of this was discussed and know the conclusion.

OTA have deployed for reasons beyond vorts, such as the thread I made about needing CP's to deploy first (spurred by an OTA raid over 1 guy on the surface with a anim bug holding shotgun), and recent uses of tac nades being thrown at secret base entrances. Now this incident.

I am personally believe constantly deploying over mere sightings of a group of rebels and/or 1 vort is cringe but thats a completely different topic entirely.
This has already been addressed.

I am a firm believer on equality and no bias, this is a character you made- you got yourself into a position whether CP or Rebel that you were aware could end up getting you killed. If you die, you die, it's the name of the game. You're roleplaying, think of it as a real life you have placed yourself here, deal with the consequences or don't play the role. If you really wanna see all deaths be taken as PK's, then it should be the same for CP's as well.

You have a Resistance fully capable of fighting off and killing an OTA raid and getting their guns for it; that is a very difficult thing to manage from a balance standpoint.

Falling into the false equivalency of "well cops take the risk too" is how you end up with a neutered, limp civil protection faction unwilling to perform its partial role of being a check for rebels because they fear walking into a baited ambush and getting PK'd.

Any unit that ranks up beyond wanting to walk around the streets is forced to go on sweeps as a reaction which can get them killed. They do not have a choice in this. The Resistance, meanwhile, is fully capable of never taking an overt action to risk their character. They certainly don't have a PK hanging over their heads for not doing something.

Cops can also be baited via resistance actions and subsequently PK'd. There is no reverse to this; cops cannot bait rebels into attacking them.

PK's alone do not make the state of these two factions even and its a trap so many communities have fallen into.

yeah why the hell are these half life 2 roleplayers playing half life 2 roleplay as rebels FUCK THEM! PK AND STOP THEIR ROLEPLAY!

rebels didn’t blow up shit or hang dead bodies like decorations in hl2 they were all humble and motivated by freedom, not scripts or hate or whatever

i have no problem with actual rebels if you guys just knew how to do it right lol stop acting like taliban

@Ehrenmann @Sagsworth

you guys have anything to contribute or do you just not want to be held responsible for your character’s actions in the future

or are you just jumping on the circlejerk bandwagon and hitting the red X because I made the post in lieu of someone else

I never said they're not characters, but the development behind a CP isn't the same as the ones needed to be involved with the Rebels. A majority of you guys RP emotionless aggressors and started out through an application and didn't join through IC means. Doing that basically starts you off with an already established character; instead of having to formulate one as time progresses. I've only seen a handful of CP's who RP their characters and mold from a not-preset "I hate Citizens, we must treat them all like dirt". And as I stated earlier you lose the character, you remake it on a whitelist likely the same rank, same position and formulating relationships through those means is nothing outside of the norm. You're cannon fodder, you win some you lose some. For a Rebel if they're PK'd, they have to literally start from ground one.
You have a Resistance fully capable of fighting off and killing an OTA raid and getting their guns for it; that is a very difficult thing to manage from a balance standpoint.
It's one thing to get fully geared up and armed by a singular raid; however, it is expected for Rebels to be armed. For example in HL2, the Rebels within C-17 managed to create things like the SLAM, had geared themselves with rocket launchers and the gun used on the gunboat. You're making it seem like the Rebels' got excessive amounts of gear from this, but realistically there is still a lot of roleplay to be had.

As I stated before NLR is highly recommended and PK's I'd suggest be done outside of TBC and done through S2RP. This just allows for a more satisfying character ending and not just "wow I lost during an S2K and now I'm PK'd." This would of course go for both sides

There is no need for hostility towards people who aren't involving themselves in this thread, if they felt the need/want to reply they can. Don't provoke shit talk like there was in game earlier. Just like what happened on the server if you're going to instigate, a warning will be issued. Please keep the negativity to yourself or take it to DMs.

yeah except none of those rebels are actually in the city but the outer canals

these people are all in a discord with one another that they used to shit-talk people behind their backs lol sorry but i'm going to bring it to light as much as i can

Can you explain how rebels who are NLR'd get to keep their loot and equipment if in fact they are?

I wasn't there for this and just saw the rebels perspective of the engagement.
I can confirm there is NO equipment or skills that have been refunded

Can you be more specific? Should we not take action to diminish and fight the Combine and instead sit in our bases accumulating gear? Because oftentimes I'm confused with what people want from Rebel RP as I've heard that we should be harshly punished for doing anything out of line (I.E. OTA should raid after camera being destroyed and shouldn't be able to go back into base (meaning we could barely even destroy cameras) ) and that Rebel RP should be being more ballsy.

I am a rebel representative so I hope that you feel like you have tied down at least some of the rebel leadership.

We do have a discord, and we do get heated sometimes, but that is the nature of how it goes. We try to keep all parties in the discord (we have OTA lead, CP lead, a bunch of admins) so there are fair views on even the most heated discussions, which commonly happen when we think something unfair happened.

This isn't an argument though. The server is DRASTICALLY different than what HL2 really is.

CWU, CMU, BOE, CCA; none of this exists in any fleshed out form in HL2 in any of the games. They were all made on assumptions on the gamemode. The same can be said about the resistance; who's up to interpretation. You could say that the so called "freedom fighters" you meet in HL2 only stood for freedom because it was Freeman doing it and he was fighting off CP and OTA like a champ; anyone would lend a hand to a literal demigod who is killing the Combine left and right; something that normal rebels struggle to do and only with extensive planning.

Is this a thread on how rebels should act or whether they should be adhering to some sort of PK rule set? I am not even sure anymore.

not going to get into specifics because equinox already made a beautiful document about what needs to happen in order for a rebellion to even be considered

small groups of 5-15 people would realistically never be able to accomplish anything substantial by performing infrequent guerilla-style terrorist attacks

It's not adherence to canon; it's common sense.

I don't know why you think any insurgent acts like the ones typically performed by HL2RP rebels would entice citizens to get armed and fight their oppressors. See my last post.

We are working on this, and we have united major players in the resistance. Also, stringing up a defeated super-robotic-basically-non-human soldier is diminishing the trust in the combine and their protection. Finally, launching these attacks increase our resource pool (at least in theory).

We are already doing what you want us to do, but you are criticizing it anyways.

Not to mention, this is getting off course. If you would like, we can take this to a general discussion thread.

PS: Also, if you have a specific, thought-out thing that you want from rebels, you can also directly DM me in discord.

Cool

most people who frequent the slums already partake in rebel activities. preaching to the choir

how does destroying a checkpoint increase your resources? plus I think equinox was referring to expeditions, which I'm fine with as long as they are brutal and punishing corresponding with their rewards

this is my last post on the matter at hand. the thread topic still stands; staff should acknowledge that actions like the one performed today fall under the aggressive actions PK criteria and punishments should be enforced as long as everything leading up to it was legitimate (in the future. obviously today is an exception)

I see no reason why staff should not uphold PK criteria, so I have to agree

And quick clarification, I meant the attacks on the OTA

Ngl it's kinda funny to me how you don't see how that would entice players to arm up and fight their oppressors. When the Rebellion shows power, and that they are capable- people will notice this and when the time comes they will make a decision.
IC is IC, Rebels don't have Gordan Freeman or a Alyx on this server to literally cause a whole societal uproar.

This restricts them from constantly being harassed or attacked by CP's. Making life harder for you guys is ideal for them, think of ancient times of war- placing siege of restricting trade routes. Ideally the expeditions will be exactly like that, you go and you deal with the risks in accordance to the rewards you will receive.

I feel like when it comes to being PK'd by OTA the death should be through S2RP and not done through TBC. As I stated in my post prior:
As I stated before NLR is highly recommended and PK's I'd suggest be done outside of TBC and done through S2RP. This just allows for a more satisfying character ending and not just "wow I lost during an S2K and now I'm PK'd." This would of course go for both sides.

I feel like when it comes to being PK'd by OTA the death should be through S2RP and not done through TBC. As I stated in my post prior:

S2RP is an abysmal way of conducting any sort of combat. ESPECIALLY a retaliatory sweep. All it takes is one guy to initiate an RP situation with OTA in a section of the sewers and tell his buddies to retreat to the secret base while he stalls. S2RP is also filled with LOOC arguments, powergaming, and biased admins overseeing it. Remove all admin involvement (S2K, TBC) and the situation improves for everyone.

PKs should result from any form of sweep (whether that's TBC, S2K, or S2RP) that takes place because of unprovoked, aggressive attacks on the city. It's an action that you WILLINGLY participate in, and you want people to avoid the consequences.

It's not supposed to be fair. That's why actually winning should feel so good.

What tends to happen in EVERY HL2RP server I've played is a cycle of a small group of vocal rebel players (the intransigent minority) being upset at X, Y, and Z. They use OOC loopholes and relentless complaints (valid or not) to achieve their goals instead of IC actions. Whether or not that's the case here, it's impossible to tell, but I want to ensure that it never actually comes to that.
