Today a shadow sweep was initiated by OTA, and as I was told by @Eviction Notice , it's 'none of my beezwhacks' why they did so. The squad consisted of two OWS units, one APEX unit, and two EOWs. This was done in response to nothing as far as I know. No attack from the rebel side, no recent losses, it is day two of a new, destroyed city and OTA deployed a shadow sweep in the sewers and beach featuring two of their most elite units.

The resulting conflict was utter S2K nonsense, ending with a major victory against mid-tier rebels, and with the OTA units spamming ''Haha'' and ''Trash'' voicelines at the end while rebels laid in bleedout.

Is this what we expect nowadays from a faction of alien supersoldiers? Have we stopped caring entirely?
This is a sad display by the Combine side, one which constantly complains about the resistance lacking roleplay standards. Are these your standards, @Eviction Notice , and the ones you enforce on your team, since you were a part of this squad and dismissed all my questions during and after the engagement?

In a period where the Combine factions are under heavy scrutiny because of their behavior, is this how you choose to mend relations? By running nonsensical shadow sweeps and dismissing questions from the ET leads? Do better and stop harming your own player base and acting like minges. Even if there was a reason for this sweep, the IC behavior shown by these units is appalling and reads as OOC-fueled anger. It's gone on long enough and no action has been taken against these power trips besides minor rule changes.

As someone who's generally very sympathetic to the Combine because I know how difficult it is to balance being the "hammer" of the server with player enjoyment? This was not the play.

OTA are inherently a faction that ends roleplay and doles out PK's when needed. That is their purpose - and that is why it has to be done very carefully, especially now during a period of intense scrutiny on the Combine faction as a whole.

You need for people to trust your motives OOC so that when genuine mistakes occur, people are willing to believe you weren't going out of your way to win. It is literally the most important thing for an OTA lead to have.

So when the faction lead justifies a sweep that broke their own deployment rules and the nature of what Shadow Sweeps are meant to be to kill a group of uninvolved rebels who's only crime was to do PassiveRP and tries to tell them they're out of line to be angry and "that this wouldn't have happened if they'd have stayed in the slums" and that "its still a blow" despite it not touching the group responsible, why should they believe a word thats said, or take it in good faith?

If you are willing to bend the rules to suit like this, why would I trust you wouldn't do the same the next time you feel like stamping on some rebels no matter where they are? It says something when @Curbalas and @nath1234567 are both chiming in to agree with the players.

I'm glad the rebels were Un-PK'd but imo the bigger issue is the complete lack of trust this fosters.

Serious question : Why do OTA love saying "Haha" so much ?

That seems so much out of character for inhumane supersoldiers.
They do show emotions even in HL2 (Panic in their voices when explosives are near them), but there is a limit on these, obviously
