calling everyone who criticizes the map a whiny doomsayer is surely a great way to get people to agree with you. why didn't
i ever think of that?
the truth to the matter is that half of the buildings on the map have no interior and the streets are drawn out, no matter how you cut it. it isn't status quo to want a map that's condensed and most of its buildings have interiors: that's just common sense. yeah, the setting'll be different alongside the narrative arc, but neither of those negate the fact that c27 is flawed and needed a lot more refinement in order to properly satisfy serious rp
as said by
riley (dumb canadian), it'll be a repeat of i17 that the map is large and quite spacious -- but does little with it. this and the interior criticism are both valid
also, am i really a doomsayer when i was one of the people who put the effort to write the new arc...... are my grievances with the map invalid still........
Not trying to get people to agree with me, I'm trying to understand why people are complaining in the first place.
I'll return to one of my earlier points; what exactly is missing that's actually important? sure, there's buildings with no interior, but there's also nothing missing that's of ANY importance. The one point I will agree with you on, is it's a *bit* drawn out, however, this does have the added benefit of making vehicles less of a chore, like on I24, where it would take a blessing to the Gods, and a skilled driver just to be able to corner around a checkpoint without wedging yourself into it.
Do bare in mind that we have, and likely always will have the VMF for the map, meaning complaints like the lack of building interiors, if it proves to be something beyond complaining for the sake of it, can be rectified post-launch.
As for condensing, is it not overdone by now? Can we not just have one map where it takes longer than six seconds to walk from the point to point? I don't view it as a bad thing, the large spaces allow opportunities for various things, propping wise, checkpoints to help fill void spaces, tucked away corners to allow shady business to happen in the city, space for someone to build a stall themselves if they really wanted to.
We've just come from C8, which is possibly one of the most overly condensed (city) maps ever, so having a map that's a little more open isn't a bad thing, especially not considering it's not OVERLY large, there's still POIs scattered around frequently enough not to make it feel empty.
As for not doing things with space, that's always been an issue, hell, even C8 had numerous spots that never saw any use, and the city of that map was small, so I don't view that as a real issue.
Whether or not you wrote part of the arc is irrelevant considering we're speaking about the map itself, Astro has put in an incredible amount of work into getting this map ready for us, and has already stated that more edits are to come post-launch. If we delayed launch by however long it'd take to fill out those buildings with.... Something, it'd just irritate people more.
