What do you think of the new map?

who buys apartments anyways
and there will be only like 2 store owners online as it's always been like
Exactly, this is why people's complaints about interior space are completely unwarranted. Complaining for the sake of it when they won't even use the space there is anyway.

Will the doom sayers please elaborate to me why exactly they're whining about the interior spaces? I think I've made my argument pretty clear as to why it doesn't matter.

“Why do people hate the staff team so much? We’re trying to make the server better for the players”

>Dogshit updates nobody asked for

>Doesnt play a character outside of high CCA, and/or never logs on. (The very same CCA folk whine and complain and abuse their power ic to fuck over player led initiative)

>”You guys are just complaining for the sake of it!!” - statements by the clinically insane

>Bureaucratic hellhole led by “players” that have been “on” the server for years (haven’t played a real character in decades)

????? If you're talking about the map nobody asked to be blackmailed by the map owners we wanted to use before.

I have a slightly inkling, that George is working for MB in their Shitpost department.

Yeah dude I'm a madblunts operative that's why I've got a furry profile picture and apparently transgender. I'm not the dude with people literally moaning in my dm's.

calling everyone who criticizes the map a whiny doomsayer is surely a great way to get people to agree with you. why didn't i ever think of that?

the truth to the matter is that half of the buildings on the map have no interior and the streets are drawn out, no matter how you cut it. it isn't status quo to want a map that's condensed and most of its buildings have interiors: that's just common sense. yeah, the setting'll be different alongside the narrative arc, but neither of those negate the fact that c27 is flawed and needed a lot more refinement in order to properly satisfy serious rp

as said by riley (dumb canadian), it'll be a repeat of i17 that the map is large and quite spacious -- but does little with it. this and the interior criticism are both valid

also, am i really a doomsayer when i was one of the people who put the effort to write the new arc...... are my grievances with the map invalid still........

Not trying to get people to agree with me, I'm trying to understand why people are complaining in the first place.

I'll return to one of my earlier points; what exactly is missing that's actually important? sure, there's buildings with no interior, but there's also nothing missing that's of ANY importance. The one point I will agree with you on, is it's a *bit* drawn out, however, this does have the added benefit of making vehicles less of a chore, like on I24, where it would take a blessing to the Gods, and a skilled driver just to be able to corner around a checkpoint without wedging yourself into it.

Do bare in mind that we have, and likely always will have the VMF for the map, meaning complaints like the lack of building interiors, if it proves to be something beyond complaining for the sake of it, can be rectified post-launch.

As for condensing, is it not overdone by now? Can we not just have one map where it takes longer than six seconds to walk from the point to point? I don't view it as a bad thing, the large spaces allow opportunities for various things, propping wise, checkpoints to help fill void spaces, tucked away corners to allow shady business to happen in the city, space for someone to build a stall themselves if they really wanted to.

We've just come from C8, which is possibly one of the most overly condensed (city) maps ever, so having a map that's a little more open isn't a bad thing, especially not considering it's not OVERLY large, there's still POIs scattered around frequently enough not to make it feel empty.

As for not doing things with space, that's always been an issue, hell, even C8 had numerous spots that never saw any use, and the city of that map was small, so I don't view that as a real issue.

Whether or not you wrote part of the arc is irrelevant considering we're speaking about the map itself, Astro has put in an incredible amount of work into getting this map ready for us, and has already stated that more edits are to come post-launch. If we delayed launch by however long it'd take to fill out those buildings with.... Something, it'd just irritate people more.

Okay, somehow this got turned into a battle royale and one dude is now schizo posting...

As for the map I am optimistic about it. It is big, but I dont believe that's a bad thing. Extra space is pretty good to have and honestly, for all the people remarking about the lack of interiors - I personally don't see it.

In the main plaza area alone you have Seven interiors, not counting any stores or shacks.
On the main road beyond the plaza you have four interiors that can be entered.
In the industrial zone you have around four more areas that can be entered, also not including anything that may be a CWU exclusive area.

So for a rough total that excluded all stores, shacks or Faction excluded areas you have roughly fifteen interiors (Probably more) that can be entered at your will. That isn't a small amount in my eyes. Could more have been added? Yeah. But lets not go crazy and start acting like there is no interiors on the map or a severe lack of them. At worst, its slightly less than it should be.

As for map size, I think this will also end up being a good thing.
Aside from minor issues like the one street being too long the map size allows two things
1. Larger events with more varied entities and scales. The smaller the map, the less events can make use of things like synths, monsters or other larger base concepts.
2. Ability to be clandestine amidst the empty spaces. Since, after all, empty spaces have alot of use in a setting like we have. Its not a bad thing to have extra room. How long did we spend on City 24 v3 with an entire street that saw next to no traffic? Did that render the map unplayable? It did not.

So I do not view interior space or the maps size to be problems, certainly not problems large enough to start panicking. At worst, we'll just have some sparse area that people tend to move around which is not really a major deal. There will be less condensing of the population which will lead to not as many people actively visible, but again, we spent months on I24 and this problem wasn't enough to kill the server or even really slow it down. We'll see, but even in cases of rough waters the map can be updated on a whim since its ours.

You're a dumb hack who's being replaced. Sorry... Pls stop f##king whining.... cu nt *burps elly loudly

Please keep it civil. There's really no need for arguing like that, regardless of role.
If you have concerns, keep them critical and friendly. If you're here to vent anger and frustration, this is the wrong place for it. ty

Very aggressive, but pretty on-point; I respect Rad-X's comment as he says people should be civil on the forums and I agree, but at the same time, if nothing gets done save for more of the same old same old, that kinda defeats the purpose of civility, it only helps the non-angered party unfortunately.

I'm not making a big deal about this and saying we should go all French Revolution and burn down some staff team member's house (though I'm going to burn down peryite's) But I am in total agreement with how the staff team's bureaucracy has been completely mismanaged for only the benefit of a few players. I've ran servers before, not as large as Willards but with atleast a hundred to two hundred players offline and around twenty-thirty online at their peak. Willards has around 30-50 total staff members (including creation team, mentors, leads, devs, etc), give or take, you don't need a byzantine level of bureaucracy that this server has. It needs to be skimmed, down-sized, and slimmed down to an efficient proportion. Everyone knows this, the staff are just afraid of going forth with it because they might get cut or lose their position in an impending lay-off, and no staff member wants that to happen.

But of course, no changes will happen until the folks at the top realize that the only way a server stops being stale is if it goes with the flow and changes in the times -- you don't swim in a sea if you stay stationary, you drown. You can't make a change that appeases everyone, either. Being in leadership is about making the hard decisions that will be unpopular with those you hold close, and that's just a fact.

The amount of times I've seen and heard of a person in power with repeat shitty decisions in this community is numerous, yet they just...Stick around. You don't have to ban these people, just find more efficient people to do their job better. That's how any normal community or employer works and that's how any efficient community will always work. The day a community becomes toxic is when you don't ACTIVELY promote an atmosphere of efficiency, quality, professionalism, anti-nepotism, meritocracy, and competitive yet friendly criticism from everyone. Some have tried to promote these values but when they've been known to go against them themselves, it kind of falls on deaf ears, 'Rules for me but not for thee' type vibes.

I'm completely derailing a thread made about a map to go on about staff criticism here, but I feel like everything ties back to that. People want something done and the map is just one of the main points about staff team inefficiency and a lack of intuition. It's not the best, most biting map and that's no fault to the developers who Willard-ized it because the map IS flawed from the beginning, IMO. We should've gone with the map City 3 on GMOD that's reminiscent of a Chinese city. It's infinitely cooler in its' atmosphere and is an amazing city map besides a few small, easily fixable issues.

That's all, thanks.
